Grazie. Un abbraccio.

The Caves were also used by the Soldiers during WW2 etc to take supplies through the Alps. There is a documentary on how the Italians did that to also sneak up on the Germans etc. I can't remember what it was called. Some of the older people in the village may remember. Good job on giving your daughters a great childhood. Please be careful doing work on the terrace walls. Mudslides etc.. Stay healthy and strong..

Would that have been like the French Resistance? Because the Italians were allies with the Germans in WWII ...perhaps you are thinking of WWI when the Italians switched sides because they resented the Austro-Hungarian Empires' control & influence in the Italian-speaking portion of the Alps. (from a history blog)... "Annexing territory along the two countries’ frontier stretching from the Trentino region in the Alps eastward to Trieste at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea was a primary goal and would “liberate” Italian speaking populations from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, while uniting them with their cultural homeland. During the immediate pre-war years, Italy started aligning itself closer to the Entente powers, France and Great Britain, for military and economic support. On April 26, 1915, Italy negotiated the secret Pact of London by which Great Britain and France promised to support Italy annexing the frontier lands in return for entering the war on the Entente side. On May 3, Italy resigned from the Triple Alliance and later declared war against Austria-Hungary at midnight on May 23."

When they first built the pond, I thought exactly what they said ...to let the overflow fill a larger pool just below the first pool, perhaps even deep enough to dive into and long enough and/or wide enough to become a natural swimming pool. Wouldn't THAT be lovely!! And a real treat in the hot summer! So long as there was a stair to go in and out so the girls could easily climb out ...of course the Voyagers would always be with them if they went swimming.

To get a match stain the best thing is to get someone who restores antiques to get the right recipe. I did that to my staircase to match the wood floors. I had to pay a small fee for the recipe which had four different colors to mix at different ratios. The old stain in the older wood has a patina that only time can give.

The trick to getting a natural look with stains is to use a timber sealer first, this prevents the more porous grain taking up extra stain which gives an unnatural look, if you seal it first you get an even color that makes the timber look like it is that color, especially effective when trying to make pine look like a white Baltic timber, and not yellow.

When stationed in Vicenza we did a lot of hiking and exploring back in the 70s, most caves in the north were used in the past by conquering armies, the Germans were using them in two wars and we were told that there could be booby traps and to be careful. Quite a few were repurposed as Fungi farms. Enjoy watching your videos!

There are caves in my area of the mountains in Abruzzo, Italy. There are some that are obviously burial grounds for families. It is very interesting. The locals are called Toccolani, and there is a skeleton of a Toccolani girl that dates back to 1000 years. I feel the history in my village. I can sense what people were like as my part of the village has not changed much since the 12 century.

Having restored antique furniture I find that layering stains is a great way to get that rich aged look. Play around with a few pieces you have laying around. Look closely at the original and see what each layer actually is (golden, rose ,gray?) Then see what the next one is and so on. Also when done staining get a really good wax seal on it. Will still be washable but won't leave the overly shiny look that poly leaves.

With staining new or old wood, experimentation is the key word. Some of these commercial stains can cost a fortune, whereas there are cheaper options if you look around. Have you ever thought of black or brown shoe polish? You can dilute them with mineral turpentine, or neat; and get some great results. Even old paint, (water or oil) could give amazing results. Always have plenty of old rags on hand, to wipe off, or apply, when necessary. I'm a furniture restorer, and have had surprising results by experimenting. Have fun. I like your vlog. I live in New Zealand.

As far as the staining of our woodwork is concerned, we mixed nut stain with therbebtine and wax for our chestnutfloor and all the woodwork. People sometime ask us why we didn't sand down the floors, but we wanted them with the original texture. The stain worked really well, it was really cheap and looks completely authentic.

I would also think that maybe locals in the old days used these caves along the paths when herding animals from place to place, or for going to market (with goat cheese, etc.) . The paths were their roads and the caves were their rest stops.

Sunday morning, it is time for me to go to Italy.😊 It was lovely to see you guys relaxing a bit and enjoy that gorgeous place you can call home and we can feel completely envious of. Those caves are pretty spooky.

My dad and I explored caves a lot in Montana. A very cool experience, but can be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. There was one cave we liked to go to that the town ended up blocking off because people kept falling to their death. Use headlamps! Too many people explore with no light and you can easily fall in a hole.

Yes, beware of also getting disoriented in the caves. My brother got lost and learned that it's best to have a rope so you can follow it back to find your way out. Just a good safety tip.

Wow, those caves! So nice to touch history. I imagine something to do with the war too. 'm glad you're all taking time to hike and enjoy your area. Some stains are solid, some opaque, so that first one may have been a solid stain.

Hey guys, just wanted to remind u of a product in the US called "Drylock" paint. It's what Shamu's tank is painted with at Sea World & it's awesome for keeping dampness out of a structure. I live in Michigan & have what's called a Michigan basement - rocks & foundation out of natural materials (yes, I have a couple tree trunks for supports too) and my walls are painted with Drylock to mitigate mold, mildew & even water outside from coming in. I hope u consider this product for the outside walls that have moisture. It would be a definite easy solve to that problem. Just not sure how the Italian codes & inspectors would look at it, but it's a fab product to paint outside on walls & inside of course. Hope u can get it there! You're doing such a fabulous job & work SO HARD, I would be tickled pink if my suggestion could help solve that problem. It's at Home Depot & Lowes & probably other home improvement places. FINGERS CROSSED!! 🙏

You guys are so blessed lucky. I wish you all the best. You know it looks like the staining done by beeswax or finished with beeswax. 🤘🏾

Try adding in a mild iron oxide stain (steel wool rusted in water). It can mimic some of that darker ashen color you get with age in wood.
