When walking around Tennessee during the Grand National F100 Reunion in Pigeon Forge, we were told that there was a one of one truck there-- A 1969 Ford F150 that was so unique that Ford only ever made one of them. This amazing truck is 100% original, even down to the spark plugs. Special thanks to Ray May for letting us share this beautiful piece of history! I inherited a 1968 California model long bed F100 from my paternal uncle in 1995 when he passed away. He was the original owner and used it primarily as a work truck as a gardener in Southern California. The one difference I noticed between this 360FE V8 and mine is the vacuum advance. The California models in parts of California with stricter smog rules have a dual chamber vacuum advance/retard on them. They were used on the Thermactor and IMCO emissions control equipped engines. The Thermactor had special tubing connected to the exhaust manifolds, directing hot air to vacuum censors to control the retard and advance. The IMCO was a more simple unit, just using the manifold vacuum and a vacuum control valve to regulate the retard when the engine slowed down. That is one difference you might come across when you see a California original vs a 49 state original truck.

That appears to be an early 1969 F100 built before January 1 1969. The DOT requires lit side marker lamps on all vehicle made on or after January 1 1969 (DOT 108). This one meets the mandatory side reflector requirements on vehicles made from September 1 1967 and later (DOT 108). The mid to late 1969 models have the side marker on the end of the spear bump with a reflectorized lens, meeting both the lit marker and rear side reflector requirements for January 1 1969 and later trucks. Some of the F100s might have the lit front side marker mounted on the front fender (used on the F250 & F350 Camper Specials) to meet the DOT 108 mid year requirement on these trucks.

None of the 69's had that marker light. The 70 model was the first.

@@holmanmoody4276 I actually saw an original mid to late 69 with the marker lamp. DOT 108 states all vehicles made on January 1, 1969 and later must be equipped with lit marker lamps on the side, both front & back. Ford had a mid year change in a number of factories. The truck I saw is a California original with the old 1969 issued plates. Now it's rare to see a 69 mid year to late year Styleside with the change, but there is one nearby in my area.

@maxheadroom8857 did it have the aluminum 69 grill or the 70 grill with the plastic inserts ?

@@holmanmoody4276 the 69 truck I saw had the 69 grille, rear marker lamp on the spear like the 70-72 and the side marker lamps on the front fenders. The California plate license number was close to my 68's original California plate number, a late commercial 68 plate issued in August 1968. The 69's plate number was one issued around the Spring of 69. A late friend of mine was a parts vendor for 1948-79 Ford trucks, and had gotten many orders for rear side marker lamps and front fender marker lamps for 1969 Ford trucks. A Chilton's repair manual for 1961 and later trucks has 2 pages dedicated to DOT 108 lighting & reflector requirements for all 1968 - early 69 vehicles and 1969 mid year changes for January 69 onwards. January 1 1969 and later vehicles require lit side lights and reflectors per DOT 108 updates issued in late 1968.

The F150 was introduced as a heavier F100 to work around an Emissions regulation loophole that allowed heavier trucks to have less restrictive smog rules. That got struck down in for the 1979 model year Federally and for 1978 in California.
