Hidden away in the highlands, upon a hilltop, shrouded by woodland… A mysterious community sits abandoned…

I believe it was Danish rather than German occupants. The book on the desk, Der Danske Salme Bog is a hymnal of the Church of Denmark.

I have been here and spoken with the groundskeeper, it was nothing to do with a cult, the buildings were illegally built and the people were moved on. They were strange, yes, but it was nothing to do with a cult of any sort, I used to live near this.

I'm convinced this was a Danish Closed Brethren community, just outside Huntly Aberdeenshire, in the 80s their was still some Brethren groups along the coast near by in Buckie etc the Closed Brethren would have their own church and beliefs, in the photo of the men all sat down some of them have a white tag hanging from their coats beside their handkerchief, this is seen in other photos of Danish Closed Brethren, I could be wrong but it certainly seems like it

That's what I thought, they didn't do the least bit of research for the edit, so guess it's all about them. I'd have had to at least find out the bare minimum about both communities who lived here.

I'm German, and the writing you found on things in that house wasn't German. It might have been Dutch or Danish. There are some similarities in these languages. I think Danish, because there was a Danish (Dansk) book in that "office" looking building, and the names of the guys on the photo were also more Scandinavian instead of German. Interesting place, though! I'd like to know what kind of community that was. Nice explore! 😊👍

Enjoyed that little adventure. A bit like `Through the Keyhole` tv programe with all the misleading languages. A sign on the Wall said `God Bless This Home` in Danish, the cups with the spices are also in Danish, The old map looks to be in Welsh, a place near Llandrillo and other bits and pieces in English. So perhaps a Danish man married a Welsh woman and they moved to Scotland? Don`t think there`s any occult goings on though, just a little highland farming community that liked tgo keep to itself. You should have just asked at one of the other farms that are occupied, someone up there would know, I find the folk in the highlands quite friendly. Anyhow, great video Sam & Jess.

Enjoyed that video! It is strange how that seems such a 'dark' zone in an otherwise stunning, arable landscape. I see others have commented on the language in the letter etc being Danish, but the book on the table 'Tywysydd y Plant' was in Welsh, as were the names on the map. Perhaps this group had a similar group in rural Wales? Camarthen being a rural/ agricultural county.

The table with the rail tickets from Camarthen, those printed papers were in Welsh not German (or more likely a Skandi language) :) On the map you found, the place is called Byrgwin Mawr, again, Welsh - I wonder if they were planning to visit or move to another religious community in Wales? On old hand drawn maps there are many spelling mistakes and mistranslations of old Welsh names. There is a Bryngwyn Mawr over near Dengigh which was a hospice at one time and was run by the church. I wonder if your little community was a retreat? Another possible location for that map was the standing stones on Angelsey. Back in the 80's we had to use actual paper maps if we wanted to visit anywhere 😂 Most people had loads of them.
@traceyj321
@traceyj321 10 ай бұрын
We noticed the Welsh names too, especially on the map. It looked like a boundary map with plots. Would be interesting to know if the plots were there or in Wales itself. As for a settlement around Denbigh I'm sure years back there was a commune, wonder if they were linked.
