Bruh, you "found" something that the dive site operators literally advertise 🤣 Realtalk though: if you're ever in a cavern, cave, or wreck, NEVER try to breathe the gas in a random air pocket. This is very different, because they actively pump in breathable gas. Ordinarily, you have no guarantee that the gas mixture in the pocket supports life. You could easily pass out and drown without ever realizing anything is wrong. Source: local internet ScubaNoob (with trimix certification)
@JoeOceanside3 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, thank you for sharing that, it is very important to note this is specifically put there for you to breathe off. Random air pockets could kill you. And yes, I said I "found" the airbell, I did not say "discovered" the airbell. I looked at the map on the brochure and "found" my way to the airbell LOL. Thanks for watching!

I love Blue Grotto. Have dived it a number of times. As clear as the water was, it was pretty churned up. If you go when no one else is there for a while the vis is amazing. And Grottos spaces are big enough to really appreciate the visibility. And yes, they are well set up. Dove there on winter morning. It was 28 degrees. We dove anyway. It was about the best visibility that I have seen in thousands of dives. The water was 72 but wow, when you got out I was very thankful for the hot shower to take off my wet suit. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

We dove the Blue Grotto in Feb, 1979. Air bell was there at about 35' for convenient conversation with buddy. Maximum depth was 100', average was 55'. Very large room with some fish but no turtle was seen. The people in charge (McQuarie ?) were friendly and helpful. Got a nice air fill afterwards.. It's a beautiful, fun, must-do dive for CAVERN diving. Strong lights required. Best to get there early before it gets silted up. DO NOT ATTEMPT WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING/CERTIFICATION!

Cool video! When you were with the fish, I thought you weren't supposed to hold your breather underwater?
@JoeOceanside2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The big problem is if you hold your breath while you are ascending. As air rises in water it expands, so if you have air in your lungs while you are going up you need to let some out through breathing. If you were to take a big breath at 30 feet deep and hold it while you went to the surface, the air would double in size and tear your lungs. In the video when I took out my regulator and held my breath I was staying still so it was fine

If you can’t equalize then I recommend drinking a lot of water and then taking 2 Advil, and also 2 of the “Tylenol cold and flu severe” (the one with nasal decongestant) 30 minutes before you enter the water.
@charlesg79263 жыл бұрын
And also aside from that, you also should study “equalizing scuba techniques” on KZbin to learn how to equalize properly. Learn “how to open Eustachian tubes” on KZbin also. And try that in the water. Do it early and often, every 2-3 feet underwater. But the medicine is important. Some people can’t equalize without it, myself included and I’m a cave diver and rescue diver

It seems like the air bubble would be a lot smaller in the under water chamber because it is at roughly 30ft deep where the water pressure would be roughly 28psi , 2 atm . I’m surprised the whole thing is full of air . It should be about half full of water according to my knowledge.
@JoeOceanside3 жыл бұрын
Good thinking and that would be true if you pushed it down from the surface without adding any new air to it. But, this airbell has air pumped down to it from a pump on the surface so it is constantly overflowing with air

@bikingviking38743 жыл бұрын
When you buy a mask place it on your face without the strap and inhale with your nose and if the mask sticks to your face it is the right fit and water wont come in. And to stop fogging use toothpaste on your mask before first time use, use finger to rub and then rinse, and after that use spit on the inside and a quick rinse before you put it on. And if the water is colder than the air cool your face in the water a little before you put on the mask.

I was very skeptical at first because of the title. But you impressed me because you were factual with everything you said. Making sure people know this is technically a cavern, although you do loose sunlight, if you had to do an emergency BCD blow/ weight belt dump, you would bounce off the ceiling but eventually you would get up to the surface because the ceiling for the is for the most part sloped. “Mostly” sloped.

Careful going into an airpocket and taking off your mask. If the pocket of air has been present for long enough and there is a rusting material... the rust will diminish the oxygen right out of the room and replace it with other gasses... One breath of that and you can go unconscious, lights out. Some famous cases of this happening on boats where multiple people die after opening up a sealed hatch to part of the hull and going in there and then someone watching sees the first person lose consciousness so they go in to retrieve them and succumb to the same fate. Just a heads up!
