If a lightning travels kilometers/miles in the open air, do you think 5 cm/few inches of rubber (i.e. a tire) makes any difference in the insulation? No, it doesn’t. So if a lightning is going to strike your car, it will do it - whether you have in on tires or on jackstands. Due to Faraday cage/effect, it’s better to stay inside a car than in the open air, if it’s thundering, but also in this one needs to remember not to touch any metal parts/frame. But it was also nice that you told us that neither you have too much idea of electricity.

How did he "scam" Carmax? He told them it didn't have the original engine in it. And then Carmax couldn't put it on their floor of cars, so they auctioned it. Do you understand how auctions work and the risks taken via many auctions? I don't trust Carmax either.......they ain't nothin' special, that's for sure. But at least they would only deal with it via auction. I just don't know what specifics they listed, or failed to list.

When Cletus asked him if it told CarMax it had the truck engine he says well I didn't go into that detail because they wouldn't have....then stopped. He also said the salesman had no idea what he was looking at. He told them the engine had been replaced. He didn't tell them it was replaced with the wrong engine. Yes I'm familiar with how auctions work. He didn't sell it at auction. He sold it to CarMax who then sold it at auction.

As a CarMax associate I have to agree and disagree. For one thing, this would not have made it to the front lot. It would be a wholesale car and go to a CarMax wholesale auction. Because it had so many aftermarket parts it instantly became a wholesale. And like Junkerbunker said, they do respray and repair body panels and hide evidence of a crash. However as long as the crash was reported, it will show up on CarFax anyway. They check the frame for damage and rust, if a car has either, wholesale. They certainly don't sell the kinda junkers other used retailers sell. Now they do mark up their cars a lot. Most of the cars are above market value. Hell, I tried buying a Taurus SHO 2011, they priced it at $4k over market value and my employee discount would only bring it down to that market value. They sell good cars, just be aware of the price.

i had a great experience buying from car max. i bought a barely used 370z sport touring for a really good price. since i'm modifying it i have gone thru just about every inch of the car and it all looks to be in perfect condition minus the normal wear and tear. i did have them hold the car for me for about 2 weeks. i did 3 test drives each one was about 1-2 hours long while checking the fluids each time. i looked at all the body panel gaps, i looked for body filler and frame damage, i got under the car with a flashlight, and on my last test drive i took it home and ran a scan tool on it.
