The ls1 (5.7) is only good for 5-7lbs stock. A 5.3 gen3 stock is good for 10-15lbs on pump.Rough safe pump gas rwhp numbers for the stock ls1 staying reliable is at or under 550rwhp the gen3 5.3 stock is good for around 700rwhp.Even after complete supporting mods 30psi on the 4bolt heads will probably be pushing water imo.

The complete lack of blowby, oil consumption, or any other indicator of worn rings on my 250k mile lq4 makes me think they're still in spec. You'd be surprised how tight a 200k mile LS can be, as I've been inside several and they needed to be opened up for boost well past 200k.

Mount the turbo on the front of the intake manifold so no lag and then reverse and run the exhaust up in front of the accessories to the turbo then the exhaust side of the turbo should in the perfect position to run the down pipe next to the intake manifold and shoot out the hood. Puts more weight on the front wheels and keeps your vision a little more clear.

@@alexstromberg7696 if you look at the old manifold on Leeroy the turbo would fit perfectly right in front of that giant wastegate where the Y comes together on the twin turbo setup. And the turbos intake turbine would be pointing towards the front of the car. It's like a exhaust powered blower at that point. Also there would be less bends in the reversed headers/exhaust and less bends in the 3cm (instead of 30cm) of intake piping for less turbulence. Essentially little gains here and there but combined..could be impressive.

Not worth it. The engine wont be able to handle the turbo power. Only time you want to add a blower is when the turbo cant make the power needed not really an issue any more. Plus there is to much heat generated in a twin setup so its really only gonna do more harm then good.

The stock LS6 cam actually makes good power on a 5.3 NA or turbo. For turbo applications you can fine tune it during the degree stage and dial it in perfectly, so for the spirit of a budget build an LS6 cam would have done just fine. Another recommended part I want to mention, although not cheap, are the Comp oil-less turbos-specifically the CT5X line. They spool fast, make great power, and install super clean without having to use any oil lines.

Hey brother. Not sure if you'll see this but forget the headlight restore kit. They're junk. Get some sand paper start with 1000 grit wet sand and do that with 1500,2000,3000 and 5000 then get a 3 or 4" hand buffer with a wool pad some buffing compound. Buff it out then go over with with a foam pad and polish. Will work 10000x better than any restore kit

Small Engines it had 4 turbos fed from the whole left bank and 4 from the right. Still silly. Tiny turbos. Didn’t make much boost. But credit where it’s due for daring to do something different

To restore the headlights, use paint rubbing compound, a ruff wheel to get close and a fine to finish, try not to heat up too much

You should place the turbo infront of the intake, put the outlet of the cold side DIRECTLY on the throttle body, with like a 2 inch cold side piping for your blow off valve

I would’ve done right in front of the throttle body the placement for the Turbo, HAHAHA! Have it sitting slightly lower or right at the level of the top part of the manifold. Even cheaper and less piping, lol, plus faster way for boost to hit mani, and still crazy!!!! Keep up the good work guys, you’re living the dream. Buddies working on crazy builds and not caring, just enjoying yourselves.

Mount turbo in front the radiator. It would look badass for the turbo be poking out the front end then the hood being trimmed to fit the intake

Gap your piston rings and you'll have no problem putting down 800+ whp Edit: heard James say you're not gonna regap the rings. Should just take it apart and have a little more longevity out of the engine before you blow it up (it's inevitable).

Sloppy mechanics took a beat 6.0 and reliably made 1,000whp in his Colorado and took it to the strip numerous times before selling it. Those old ls engines CAN have a lot of life in them past the 150,000+ mark everyone thinks they're paper weights at. A little maintenance (I'm not talking a whole bottom end) can go a long way.

Augsome the problem is you have to gap the rings if you’re trying to make that kind of power with big boost. Heat and pressure will cause the ring gap to close and blow the piston. Not a good idea

You can always wet sand and buff headlights. Works better than any of the kits I’ve ever tried.

yeah I was hoping for a tuck away where the light is and a custom velocity stack perfectly in shape of the body lines. Only need one headlight to race car. or at most tilt the turbo back and stick the top 3/4 of the compressor housing out the hood and make a nice little bevel for it. This setup is awesome either way if I would do it or not.

I wouldn't consider piping a factor in cooling, not when you have an AWIC. and as andrew mentions below, shorter piping is less lag.
