Totally beautiful. This resort attracts a lot of nature/wildlife viewers/photographers from around the world especially in spring and summer. The bird life is quite diverse, and sometimes guests are lucky enough to see the odd moose, bear etc right by the lake.

That upcoming ability to rent gear at the Lodge would make a difference for me. I’m always amazed to see what you bring for these ice adventures! I can’t help but add up the cost of auger, shelter, sled, rods, tip-ups, and, of course, the fish finder! 💵💸💰
@FishingwithRod15 күн бұрын
Yeah this has been a 10 year learning process started in 2015 and each year we're just adding more "necessities" to that sled. 🤣 I think to start ou with, the rod/reel, auger, scoop, terminal tackle, bait and chair are all you need to go ice fishing. To TRY to consistently catch fish on the ice, the other gadgets start coming in. The sounder would be the next important asset if you are fishing in water that is deeper than 6ft. A tent would block the wind and keep you warm, but more importantly, block out light so you can sight fish in shallow water. Beyond that, it's just comfort stuff, a propane heater, mats so you don't get wet when kneeling down. Some people advance to a live underwater camera and livescope to see fish biting realtime on the screen, but for the time being I am kind of drawing the line at the sounder for myself because I feel like there has to be some mystery hidden when I fish.

Absolutely Fantastic ice 🎣 adventure Rod & Linda 😊👍👏👍👏. Those were some fabulous fish 👍👍, plus some hilarious moments 😀. I miss living in 🇨🇦 😢. As they is nowhere to go ice 🎣 in England, rules & regulations don't allow it. Linda looked Absolutely awesome in her pink fishing suit 😊.

Am I allowed to fish there if Im not staying at the lodge
@FishingwithRod11 күн бұрын
Yes, Lac Le Jeune is not a private lake and can be fished by anyone who has a valid BC freshwater fishing license. Although access to the Little Lac Le Jeune is through a small section of the resort’s property, the owners Monica and Vivek are kind enough to let people to do so. My recommendation is to always drop into the lobby just to say a courtesy hi before doing it. 🙂

If a person was staying at the provincial park in the spring, could a boat navigate its way to the little lake? or is the channel too small to run a small boat through it?
@FishingwithRod14 күн бұрын
Yes and no. The channel is wide enough, and although shallow, you can easily bring a boat through it. That said, a beaver helped itself and built a dam over it last summer so blocked the passage! Most likely it'll be removed, I just don't have an update yet.

What is the limit per persons there
@FishingwithRod11 күн бұрын
At this particular lake, it is five trout per day but only one can be over 50cm long. Make sure you check the daily limit each time as it can be different at other lakes.

Can some of the gear (augers, rod/reels, holders, tent) be rented from the resort or do we bring our own gear?
@FishingwithRod15 күн бұрын
Currently this winter those are not available at the resort, which just reopened this past spring with new ownership so they are just in the process of getting more stuff going. Next winter, the resort plans to collaborate with Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (GoFishBC), which has a ice fishing rod/reel/auger loan program. Once that's set up, both guests and visitors would be able to borrow gear at the resort to fish the lake. Updates will be on Facebook and Instagram when this goes ahead.

Great video! Did you prepare the shrimp yourself or buy them?
@FishingwithRod14 күн бұрын
They're store bought shrimp, cut into tiny pieces, then mixed with Pautzke Bait's red Fire Cure for colour and firmness.

hello Rod, what kind of spoon are you using? is it a casting spoon? how heavy is it? I have tried flashers for kokanee but they are to big.

That is a Prime Lure Glory spoon.

Wait are you guys using barbless hooks?! Why are they always popping off?
@FishingwithRod15 күн бұрын
We were using barbed hooks actually. These jig hooks are tiny, size 10 or 12 I think, the shank is pretty thin so fish in this size range can pop off pretty easily.

I don't mind average trout as long as they are legal size they fun for children if you can find them and they all eat the same. Wish we had more trout lakes in the area of Michigan i live in lots of trout streams and lake Michigan. Enjoy your videos rod very informative on technique.
@FishingwithRod15 күн бұрын
The lakes around here don't have a minimum length for trout retention but generally it's so productive that we get to pick and choose. 16" - 18" is definitely the size range I like to keep for eating. Bigger fish usually go back so others have a chance to enjoy them too.
@hrdassmack35663 күн бұрын
There are limits for a reason. If u eat 5 fish take 5 fish. If the limit is 2 you take 2.now why dont you do the research on how and why they set limits. Insted of makeing ignorant stupid comments

Taking 5 fish is gluttony. Too much.
@FishingwithRod15 күн бұрын
It was 7 fish that day in the end between two anglers actually, and that's not for you to decide but the regulations. It's a put and take lake stocked with triploid fish which do not contribute to the recruitment of the population. They are meant to be caught, kept and enjoyed by licecnsed anglers. With 10,000 fish planted into the lake annually, this generous daily limit ensures that the quality of the fish is maintained. If retention rate declines, you'd end up with a lot smaller and skinnier fish at the current stock rate.

@@wasachevyguyhe’s right! Over populated lakes make for really small fish many lakes that are not targeted by fishermen are overpopulated and don’t have enough resources of food and stay very small.

Wrong. Gluttony is just that. It is for me or any person to decide. 5 fish is too much - regardless of how manipulated the lake is with sterile fish. Whoever heard of such wrong intervention by mankind.
