I love ice fishing. One lake I used to go to in Montana had good numbers of burbot, Brown Trout and hybrid rainbow trout. They all get huge fast. I once had a ranger tell me that the fish we were catching at 1 and a half pounds were last spring's fingerlings. I remember often leaving there with a limit where the smallest were over 3 lbs and the largest were a bit over 5 with my personal best at 12. This place was 125 miles away and we would regularly leave at 4am to be there at first light.

Allan Mac Donald Your three more decades of fishing experience than mine doesn't necessarily make you a better judge on how dead a fish is. One thing we know for sure though... One of us was at the scene when the fish was killed and that person knows the exact duration of the killing process. 😉

@fishingwithrod When do the winter Chinook start heading up the capilano river, could u give me a rough time frame?
@FishingwithRod8 жыл бұрын
The term "winter chinook" in Vancouver is not a run of chinook salmon that return to the river in the winter months. They are rather chinook salmon which feed in the saltwater throughout the winter months. These fish are the same ones that return to their natal streams from late summer till mid fall. There aren't any chinook salmon entering the Capilano River in the winter months.

nice shots with the camera! What make of camera are you using? Try vaseline on the eyes of the rod to control the icing up conditions. Where is Edith Lake? Thxs again...
@FishingwithRod8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This is Edith Lake, outside of Kamloops BC. We use Canon 600Ds for our shoots.
@terryschmunk19568 жыл бұрын
on Google Earth the road into Edith goes by some ranches so is it fair to say the road will be open and plowed? Also, what is the video set up you use for the underwater shots?
@FishingwithRod8 жыл бұрын
That's correct, the road, is gravel, but is well maintained throughout the year. The underwater shots were done with a GoPro Hero 3+ on a pole.

Were you cold out there without gloves?
@FishingwithRod8 жыл бұрын
It was surprisingly mild that day even though it didn't look like it. Air temperature was hovering at around 0C throughout the day except near the end. The sun was beaming down too so that helped. We were able to fish without gloves most of the time. The day before that was a different story. We had a blizzard going through and it was a lot colder, so we were inside the tent most of the time.

great spot for brookies but however the rainbow populations have exploded recently. They always come and you limit out before you get a chance for a brook.
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
The trout populations at Edith and other lakes don't really "explode" as all the fish stocked are all females and sterile/triploid. Edith gets 4,500 brook trout per year, and 5,500 rainbow trout (a split of 2,500 Fraser Valleys and 3,000 Pennasks) so it's pretty balanced.
@Canucklehead214 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithRod well I more meant that the rainbow trout are more competitive and are larger population in comparison to the brooks.
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say the rainbow trout are more competitive than brook trout. In fact, Pennask rainbows usually do not perform as well as the other species when sharing the same waters.
@Canucklehead214 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithRod Well then I don't know why I have been seeing a lot more rainbows comparative to brooks than I used to. Any tips for finding brooks?
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
@@Canucklehead21 They definitely tend to occupy different parts of the lake separately as we see that quite a bit at the other nearby lakes stocked with both species.

That would be the last fish she caught, the one u said to keep and the one she dropped twice because the fish wiggled out of her hands....my dead fish don't wiggle after being dispatched. It is a good video I just don't approve of her method of handling fish.
@FishingwithRod8 жыл бұрын
Like I said, all fish including that one were dispatched immediately. We filmed that part literally a few seconds after it was bonked. A little wiggle from reflex, combining it with how slippery it was and how frozen her hands were, something was bound to slip. That fish was then bled a few seconds after that segment, and you're welcome to ask to see the entire raw segment from dispatching, talking to bleeding if you wish. Not everything is as it seems when it is presented in a show.

Allan, I'm not sure which part of the video you are referring to. Rest assured that every single fish we decided to keep were dispatched in a timely manner, as in, immediately.
