Just an addition: The Gate House is called Georgian cottage as you will find it on the Wolterton Hall website so it's not our invention or anything. It's why we use the term. We have lived for 7 1/2 years in the UK and have come across huge houses that are called cottages. We thought we would mention it in the comments so we don't have to reply to the individual comments. Oh of course! Alot of enormous castles are called "summer houses" in GB, even though they dwarf any decent sized French Chateau. The English have alwaus been fumny that way. I guess the word cottage denotes it was actually built as a permanent dwelling, perhaps for the caretaker originally. As opposed to pavillions, or (hunting) lodges etc. I just wouldn't think of it as a cottage, and "cottage core" culture and stylings would look very out of place in this hoise with all it's stately architectural features. Nice to see the pwners didn't impose twee prints and florals everywhere and were sensitive to the original addimg some modernity that will remain tasteful in the long haul.

Not sure where in NY you are, but if you are near the Catskills, do go to Hobart NY. The Bull and Garland is a wonderful English Pub and B&B. The whole town is full of niche used bookstores and there is the Sheep’s Nest gift shop down the road. 🥰

That is the cottage of my dreams, too, it’s perfect! I love Georgian architecture, called Neoclassical here if in the US, but no one ever did it better than the English! My dream home would be something like a modest Georgian vicarage, with, say, four bedrooms. Nothing huge, but bigger than the little cottage I live in now. Georgian design and high ceilings are the must-haves. How dignified this little house looks, the front columns give it a stately feeling.

The person(s) who build this fine place, and the situation on the corner, knew what they were doing. I must agree, it is a perfect situation. The large, but warm featured bathrooms are nice for staying in a bit, and relaxing all the way to the desk. No rushing out of the bathroom for me. This was a classic video....marvelous indeed. I’m so glad that you made it to North Norfolk at last! We stayed at Wolterton Hall a few years ago and now live just 5 miles away. What a perfect jewel of a house Kirsten and Joerg. I love the delft tiled fireplace in the bedroom, but that’s no surprise being Dutch lol. I’d love to see a floor plan of the layout, the rooms are so elegant, so typically Georgian. It’s actually quite a substantial gate house as they were usually quite humble inside, though with a grand exterior impression. Ineke.

The size of the garden was perfect and the serenity of being adjacent to the field with lambs made it that much more like a fairy garden. Just stunning. I am Australian and feel such a strong pull to the UK but to Devon is particular. I have dreams where I finally get to feel the soil of Devon in my hands. Our family are descended from the Plantagenets who ruled Britain for hundreds of years, and we are related to the current Earl of Devon. There is such a soul attachment for me to a place that I have never visited. I’m hoping to visit next year if my health improves as I have to feel that soil before I die. This Georgian house is absolutely stunning and would be my dream home. Thank you so much.

The Georgian Period Architecture is so soothing to the eye and living environment. I love the layout and size of the rooms. The only thing it needs is cedar closet and dressing room added as an extension perhaps off the second floor and a walk through door to an outdoor deck to view the sheep in their field. Underneath that extension could be a covered open seating area or a greenhouse room for planting and growing herbs and starter plants throughout the year and a place to keep your walking and gardening boots.

It's a wonderful holiday accommodation and has absolutely everything you need. It's of course different if it's a permanent home.

Just wonderful, everything about it, including the sheep. I appreciate all the info you tell us about the places you stay. Wisteria brings back fond memories, my brother had horses, there was a path thru the woods to the pasture. Wisteria grew up the trees on both sides, it was the most intoxicating scent the entire way.
