The "catfish" that the guys were hooking up on, we call them barbel, and there is an abundance in most (if not all )rivers and dams throughout the country and easily grow to 40 pounds plus. They are strong swimmers but not very energetic like the bass. They have a smooth but tough slimy skin (no scales) and are NOT poisonous or electric. They do however have teeth that resemble course sand paper which wont cut but can feel creepy when picking them up. One would normally grab them on the lower jaw as if you were pulling a fist with the jaw in your palm. (four fingers in the mouth thumb on the outer jaw). As for the bass in South Africa. There aren't many big bass especially not in the Vaal. I'm sure Scott would confirm that the numbers are okay, but on average you will get bass ranging between a pound to about 2 pounds maybe 2 and a half pounds. If you lucky, you'll get something in the 4 pound range. I am about an hours drive from the Vaal River and would rather fish a smaller local compound closer to home, than drive out for the day. That said, I hope the stay in SA was pleasant and you got to see first hand that we are not the racist barbarians the world makes us out to be. I trust you tried some of our favorite foods like boereworse and biltong to name a few?
@patriciahughley89906 жыл бұрын
Clinton Raubenheimer when did SA get bass? I thought largemouth bass was native to North America?

hey Scott. I have been watching you guys for years now and you are my fishing icons. However seeing you all fishing my home water was extremely disappointing. Pity you did not get to figure it out You guys caught more unintended catfish in two days than I caught in ten years.

Are these bass wild? If so I didn't know there were large mouth bass in Africa. They almost look like spotted bass
@darrellabel75296 жыл бұрын
MyBallsUrJaws in SA we get spotted, largemouth and smallmouth. Some florida largemouth were also introduced. Bass are exotics in africa and have caused mayhem in our ecosystems

Here is a piece of advice y'all can keep in mind for the future. If you catch a big 10 pound catfish, do not let your line wrap around your finger like that gentleman did. Unless.....you don't care about losing that finger
