That is an amazing find. We found some on the roadside in a state park here last year. I am not an asparagus fan but we grilled it up and it was delicious. Ours here in MN is only about 6 inches tall. Good to see you all back again... :)

Super cool!!!! Land is so time consuming. Time most of us do not have. We have six smaller raised beds 3x6' and after planted, almost no care but trellising and tending to how they're growing. Then the constant watering starts as rains stop. Then you have to start picking, processing for freezing. We do a ton of tomatoes, beans, cubes and peppers. We buy our winter squash from our local organic Mennonite farmer.

Yum! Were those trees the ones you cut sticks and put them in? If so, they are doing wonderful! I am a tree lover too.. so I get it :)

Wow! Lucky you! Wonder if you can transplant. (BTW sun is in a solar minimum year, so may be a cooler year or two.)

Wow! Makes sense to maybe try growing more in our garden or even transplanting this (to protect it).

Do you mind telling what region of Idaho you live in, near what city? How is the soil around there and if there are any homes for sale with land. What is the weather like? Do you have all four seasons out there? We are thinking of moving to Idaho.

wood chips against the bark of a tree can hold moisture and give a location for disease to enter - some trees can handle it others can't.

Beautiful asparagus-free! I’ve picked lots of it just like that years ago before people started spraying toxins on the roadside and ditch banks. Your forest is starting to take off. You should do a video on how to do it.

I think you should get a couple sheep. They're a little more low-key then goats as long as you work with them. And you could milk them or use them for meat. and I'm sure they would be great inspiration for some painting. As well as amazing lawn mowers.

Anyway that you could transplant the crowns away from the roadside and all the toxins from vehicle traffic and road salt? What a great find! :-)

I always thought things were toxic when they grow on the side of the road. What does anyone think about that subject? It's kinda scary to think about the chemicals seeping from the road, even in the country. I really want to find wild asparagus tho
@ArtandHomesteading2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the very belated reply. Our thought is that there are so few cars on these roads, plus, asparagus has such a deep root system and seems to get so much of it's nutrient capacity from the deep soil....but then again, you may be right about your concerns...which is why we've begun to plant asparagus near the middle of the garden. :)

Hi , why dont you plant chestnut trees in your land specially at border of the land. there are many videos in youtube how to grow chestnut from seed, of course it would be better to buy saplings at this time , at least you will be one year ahead for growing them. it takes four to five years to start give its fruits. the chestnut tree is hardy and easily can grow at your place.
