So sorry for your loss David!!! I lost my father to cancer on Christmas Day 2017. I feel your pain!! My dad was also into hot rods, he taught me everything I know about cars. We turned a lot of wrenches together. He helped me build a 1973 RS Camaro with a 396ci and a 400 turbo when I was 16. I had one of the baddest cars in high school!!!! I think it's really cool that you still have that car and are putting it back together to have it at his service. My prayers and condolences to you and your family!! Hopefully he is smiling down on you right now saying, "That's my boy"!!!!!!

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad in 2002, and drove our Father/Son project behind the hearse to his grave. He bought me my Mustang the day I got my learner's permit at 15. I still have the car even though I don't have Dad. Cherished memories. What a way to honor your Dad. God Speed Mr. Newbern. Watch over your son like I know my Dad is watching over me.

Lost my Father in my early 20"s, we were working on a 63 SS impala, one night he looked at me and said " I want you to sell it, I would rather see you buy a home" he knew I don't let go of things easily. Watching your 64 mine would have been the Bright Blue and the blue interior like yours. Under the hood she was my first hot rod, 327 with 375 HP heads, 302 DZ solid lift cam, Muncie 4 speed. Garage I bought it from did the work and the owner became a friend. I do kind of blame him for my hot rod wants as he tossed me the keys to his 73 Mach 1 351 Clevelend 4 speed that kept the concrete clean underneath and it was fast. Thanks for Sharing the imapala, lots of fun times with my dad as we planned what was next. Before he passed he helped me pick out my first home which I just sold 2 years ago ( 30 years later). They teach us, they lead us, then they trust us to go do whats right, then are there when we fail to not let us quit.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad, unexpectedly, in April of 2021. He fell asleep in his chair in the morning after letting the animals out to pee and never woke up. He passed the car gene down to me, too. I told my siblings that the only thing I wanted of dad's was the big block 1967 Cougar. It was the vehicle he taught me auto repair on, and it's in the same condition as it was since he and I dropped the big block in it. It's not the way I would've wanted to end up owning it, but I couldn't let it go anywhere else. My dad's had it since the mid 1970's, so it's been a staple in our family as well. My heart goes out to you, your son, and the rest of the family. It's very hard losing someone, especially a parent!!
