This boot was build on private land around the 1930s by a loving father of many children . The children bedtime fairy tale stories that their loving father read every night were brought to life. The children were led blind folded into the fairyland they heard so much about in the bedtime stories and were amazed when opening their eyes. Sadly never finished as the father went to war . The magic the children once experienced still lives on in all those who discover it. The land is still privately owned and the present owners don't like people trespassing but you guys would be welcomed because you have so much respect. Great video so thanks. I will provide updates to this post as I awaiting a call from the landowner to find out more...

If I remember correctly, it was part of a play park/fairytale Park back in the early 1980s as I went there when I was young. The boot had 3 levels (that is shown) accessed by ladders. The park had a wild west area as well as other fairytale type areas. I did have photos of the area from my time in it. Those were the days when you could take a day trip on public transport from the mainland. Place was called Blackgang Chine, it had gravel paths all around the park.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, she didn't know what to do. She gave them some broth without any bread; Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed. Must have been built by a Peter Pan like father for his children, must have been a wonderful enchanted like garden in its day. Beautiful find thanks.

Great find/explore. In New York State in the Adirondack mountains there was a theme park called Fairytale Land. It was geared for children and featured nursery rhymes, poems and other children stories. My parents took me and my sister there in the late 1960s. It too featured The Old Women Who Lived In A Shoe, that had almost the same concrete boot. Gee, this makes me feel so old. Fun stuff for kids then. 👊👍

We have one of these here in Pennsylvania not too far from where I live. It's not abandoned, though. It was built in 1948 as advertising by a man who owned a shoe company, and he rented it out to honeymoon couples for a while. It's also been used as an ice cream shop and a few other purposes and is now open for tours. I think there may be a restaurant in it now but I'm not sure.

"Adventureland", as it was known, was a play park area for children. The crooked house (at Blackgang Chine, which has now been moved) once stood here also. The remains of Adventureland include a seesaw structure, the brick remains of a wall that surrounded the crooked house originally stood, "Mission Control" (a Nasa-style space control room with levers and buttons) and an old Wicksteed roundabout. This area was accessible up until very recently. Over the opposite side of the road is the derelict "White House" guesthouse.

I can remember the Old Woman Who Lived in A Shoe, plus other nursery rhyme exhibits. I will have to look out my photo albums to find them as I have so many happy memories. Just to add my grandparents are buried on the island, they lived at Lake, Sandown.
