Gotta love grudge racers. Car made “a thousand horsepower”. Yeah, at about 1/2 (or less) the boost they will be running and much lower RPM’s. Guessing this car should be good for 1500-1700 WHP.

The lack of cooling really becomes understandable when you talk about the head lifting under boost! These engines have some big differences compared to street motors! Another cracking build video! What a great build. Is the rear deck lid/trunk lock broken? Someone get them a trunk lock...I personally, am obsessed with the 1973 Chevrolet 4.125 bore.S.B.400! My brother had one that was worked by S&M machine shop. 11/1 compression... I could only imagine if the compression was lowered & boost added...

@@LanceAtlas Yes, I did. Don’t dislike the Windsor at all - my first new car was a 5.0. The parts coming out now are amazing. Look at what you can do with engines like Olds and Pontiac! Aluminum heads, roller cams, H-beam rods and Mahle pistons!

i been getting lucky on getting the ho 454 crate engines i found what u can get them out of so far i got 3 for free the last one had 6000 miles on it plus i get a bunch of stuff with it . i am building a 68 chevy pu for a street truck . the engine had steel crank heavy rods and pushrods high flow heads with a heavy duty 400 turbo heavy clutches bigger pump stage one shift kit runs 450 hp at 485 torque stock according to the paperwork on it then i get oil , power steering, trans coolers a twin electric fans then sold the left overs for 2000 bucks if it was a square body i could have used the radiator which i have a lot of just sitting .so u can say i save thousands on the build right now i have 800 in my 68 pu been offer up to 12,000 for it and it need the interior finished and final paint just did the dash came out sweet and the engine i made it look factory dun but updated with serpentine belt set up with flex fan and twin pusher fans did all the wiring myself through the hole truck fixed so much it was retarded some tweeker got a hold of it but did it right replaced the hole wire not pieced it in next project is a 79 z28 rs t top i got for free with 2 other z28's and i have another stroked 454 for it have the 400 turbo or a t 10 4 speed and 12 inch clutch and fly wheel all new got it for free too one car has new interior custom dun so i have everything to put it on the road for free just needs paint and nick nats but i can sell the left overs for good money even have a extra front clip i got for free in mint condition even the paint on it . the idea i have is to build it with no money out of pocket . also been building on the side a 70 high boy with a 390 dana 60/80 so far i have 250 bucks in it rust free nice body on it ranger with tool box on side

The engine is run for a short period of time. Oil cooler is larger than normal. This makes the motor much stronger without the voids or the water jackets.

So can an engine with a filled block but water cooled heads able to live on something like drag week? I'd assume you could run oil squirters to help cooling the cylinders. I'm not knowledgeable on built engines like these.

I don't think a filled block would work on something like Drag Week, but I could be wrong. Like you mentioned, running oil squirters would help, as would burning methanol. I wonder if anyone has tried it?

You can dry deck the block by sealing the water ports on the head and block. Then run water through the head and block separately. Safety of a dry deck and cooling

Sure, I guess the problem is I don't run in the usual circles with the import crowd. Most of the builders in my area (Charlotte, NC) are making their bread in stock car racing, drag racing or old-school hot rods. I just don't see much import stuff, unfortunately.

@@TheHorsepowerMonster I have taken a lot of parts from various nascar engines in order to build a 2ARFE which is a ~162ci NA Camry 4cyl that when I finish I hope to pump ~380hp at 9500rpm. And no less than 300hp at 4500rpm. The build is still out at least a year unless funds fall in my lap theres more than a engine build to my life.

You've got one poor attention span. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED IN 1ST & 2ND GEAR. THAT is why they lost. Had nothing to do with the motor. By the way: "WHO" just broke the world record ( all makes/models ) for manual/H-pattern stick 3 times in the same event ( FL2K22 ) with the current best of 6.61 @ 216 mph? Answer: Tick Performance with their old Camaro called Grubb Worm........the engine: A 1ST GEN CHEVY SMALL BLOCK @ 348 CUBIC INCHES. He was taking down big blocks with automatic transmissions in sudden grudge/money races, including Cleetus McFarland running his El Camino powered by a Steve Morris solid BB and automatic trans.

Not exactly. Wyles actually applies the assembly lube directly to the cam bearings with a brush before installing the cam. The idea behind why is actually interesting. If you apply the assembly lube to the cam journals, the leading journal gets a little lube rubbed off as it passes by each cam bearing and is just about dry by the time it gets to the back of the block. This prevents that. Thanks for watching.

Still a stock block. At some point Texas Speed did some machine work on it. They do that.

Same bore, same stroke, same firing order and better heads. The LSX is the motor ford should have built. Its so similar to a Ford arguing the difference is actually pretty silly.

@@408SPLKINGS Four decades eh? 1980 is when the Windsor ended ? The 302 was in production until 2001. The 351 went until 1997 in trucks. And Ford racing still makes bothe engines. Ya know why? Because they are great.

@@408SPLKINGS the LSX is a popular swap because it's small, cheap, and has great stock head flow. That wasn't your argument. Your argument was that the Windsor is dead and the 5.0 4v is the only swap. That's nonsense.

Still puzzles me why people would put a chevy engine in a Stang. The 1200 number is easily attainable with a number of Ford engines that are just as easy and as cheap to build as the chevy engine. . And now with the 7.3 Godzilla engine that number is easy with not as many mods as the LS platform needs. The Mustang Barn is right down the road from me. And the owner makes a fortune doing engine swaps. He told me that there are more Coyote engines being swapped now than ever before. The price is a little lower now than swapping for a LS. Plus, as he said. The coyote is a better bullet.
