Ive always wondered if dogs or any other pets were meant to live with and be owned by humans. Like was that their destiny? What if they were meant to be free hunting, exploring, and travelling in nature in packs? Or are we as humans just imposing our will onto other creatures? 🤔

Both of my German shepherds cried all night in the crate. We let our male just cry and I did like you and slept in the floor. With our female a trainer told us to put a blanket or dark sheet on the crate to make it feel like a safe little den & it worked like a charm! Your puppy is adorable!!!

So cute ! What worked to calm my puppy at night was to put a pillow with an alarm clock in in her basket (it reminded her the heartbeat of her mother so she was less stressed out)

Congratulations, Izzy is too adorable❤. My daughter got an Australian Mini Shepperd . At the beginning, my daughter used to put his bed close to her bed😘🐕🐶❤💕 . He is 6 months now and he is sleeping by himself . You and your husband will have lot of joy with Izzy🐕💕

Sometimes an alarm clock helps.. the ticking simulates the mother’s heartbeat. What we did, we never liked crates,(too confining), we put our Pomeranian puppy on a soft doggy bed, with soft toys, and blankets, in a cordoned off area of the kitchen/ dinette. Good luck! Izzy is gorgeous!

Congrats, this is one of the most incredible things ever! Advices from a dog & cat mom: - Put a hot water bottle next to her so it will remind her the siblings - Put a clock with a sound next to her while she is sleeping so it will remind her the mother’s heart rate She will wake you up for months maybe but this is what we call the motherhood anyway. My puppy, we had to put her down a 7 months ago, she was the same way. I ended up putting her kennel on the bed to be able to stick my finger in the cage. After a while, we ended up just letting her sleep on the pillows without the crate. Sometimes playing til her energy level was low helped with her just wanting to sleep, but puppies have UNENDING amounts of energy. Good luck with beautiful Izzy! Cannot wait to see how she grows

Aww she is adorable Em! So happy for you guys to become dog parents! We have a doggy and raised him since he was a baby and my advice is even though it's hard, crate training your puppy will be the best thing for them in the long run. It helps them to sleep through the night and also no have accidents in the house. We just put the crate by our bed and that way we could sooth him if he woke up and was crying. We also put a blanket over the crate so that it feels more cozy and protected for them. They also won't get distracted as much and be able to fall asleep faster from what we found. After a few weeks or months, depending on your pup, you won't need the crate most likely. I hope this helps and good luck! XO

We kennel trained my Bailey who is a Shih tzu. It was really tough but oh my gosh so worth it. He’s 11 and has always been kenneled (at night). It depends on your life style and whether you have someone home all the time, but after 6-9 months, Bailey felt safe in his kennel. I recommend it highly. Congrats. You both are adorable by the way.

Dear Emily, A puppy should have her own little dog bed without a cage next to her owners at the beginning and if your puppy cries at night that's normal because she misses her mother and siblings (or she simply must pee). Please remember this is a new home for a puppy with new people, new scents and a lot of new impressions. If your puppy cries at night, please cuddle your dog or just put her in your arms in your bed (or carry her to your garden if she must pee and even if it is 2-3x per night). She is like a baby. By the way, there is nothing wrong with it to put her also into your bed and even professional dog trainers recommend it here for the beginning. As soon as your puppy likes and accepts you as your new mom and likes her new home, she will automatically wants to sleep in her own bed. You can also put her favourite toy or a tshirt with your natural scent or a sugar-free treat in her bed later. If your puppy needs something at night, she will let you know and every dog owner will wake up automatically. Just trust your instinct! A puppy doesn't run in your home at night if you have your puppy next to you and just simply close the door so that she cannot fall down stairs. A puppy also shouldn't go stairs because that ruins her hip joints. Please ask your vet when she could start (we say between 4th and 7th months you can start slowely with your support but that depends on your dog and the breed). My grandpa was a breeder for GSPs and had also Dachshunds and I had also my own GSP later. I recommend you to buy a good book about puppies and dogs (of your breed) and also visit a dog school as soon as she got all her vaccinations and the vet gives his/her okay. You need to know what kind of food a puppy needs and what is toxic for her (don't feed chocolate, avoid apple seeds, grapes, onions, etc.). Don't feed treats which countain sugar, honey or sugarbeet and brush gently the teeth of your dog daily with tooth paste and tooth brush especially made for dogs. If your dog runs every day, her nails don't need to be cut. If your dog does not walk so much, you need maybe to cut her nails but before you do it, the vet should show you how to do it. A puppy needs a lot of sleep and please NEVER disturb a puppy or a dog in her sleep. That shortens their life. A dog normally sleeps 18-20 hours/day and a puppy even maybe more. If a dog got food, wait 2 hours before you play or run with her so that her stomach does not twist because that's really dangerous. Kindly note that not every dog can automatically swim. Some are natural born swimmers, others cannot swim. There are so many important things to know and normally your breeder should have given you also a list with a lot of advices or recommendations which book to buy. Normally, a good breeder offers you also to call her if you have a question or if you feel unsecure. One important thing. As long as your dog has no chip, I would put my cell no. on the collar just in case she gets lost. If she runs away put a a scarf or anything else with your natural scent on the ground and wait for her to come back. Of course, I also had a dog whistle with different whistles but my dog was a hunting dog. But this will come later when you educate Izzy step by step. I also had a collar with light on it for my dog when we were walking in the evenings so that others could see my dog. You maybe already know that you shouldn't let your dog alone in the car in the summer heat while you are maybe shopping because dogs can not sweat like humans and can overheat and die very fast. But the most important thing is that your dog knows that you love her and that she can trust you. Then you will have a wonderful and loyal friend. Of course, these are my personal advices. Neither am I a vet, nor a professional dog trainer. But I am a member of an animal welfare association where you can get also a lot of advices too (at least in my country). I love dogs because they bring you so much joy and they are such good companions in life. I think that Izzy got a new wonderful family with you and Kyle. im pretty sure you should not give your dog any attention while crate training especially at night. it makes them think that they have control over you, so when they cry they'll think you'll just let them out. Dogs sleep for 12-14 hours and puppies sleep for 18-20 hours.

We have a mini goldendoodle that is the same color as your cutie. Our dog is 3 years old and my best advice would be socialization (have your pup meet lots of other pups and people), we took our dog to puppy meet ups which were through Pet Food Express and Sirius Dog Training. That way the dog owners have to show paperwork that their dogs have had their vet checks before they're allowed in the area with the other pups. Also make sure her crate is in a quiet place for her when she wants to have her quiet time. Enjoy your sweet girl!

I did the same thing when I first got my dog as a puppy, i put her cage next to my bed and I kept my hand in there😅😅 I put treats in her crate so she could find during the day on her own. I also put her in her crate whenever she was sleepy, and only for like 30 minutes, literally had to have her take naps like a baby because she'd be sleeping and as soon as i got up she would too. Persistence and patience is key🥰

I just got a new puppy a few months ago, she 9months old now and doing amazing! I have great sleeping tricks and got her to be a perfect sleeper within the first 3 days -> For sleeping area, she needs a dark private crate, you can drape a sheet over it. Pick up her food and water atleast an hour before bedtime so she doesn't wake up from having to go pee. When she's sleeping, continuously play a metronome sound from an app at 55BPM loudly, w/ classical music. My grandma gave me this trick, it recreates the sound of sleeping right next to other puppy&mommy heartbeats while keeping her from hearing any small disturbances happening around her. Also, create a nap and STICK TO IT! don't let her sleep when its not nap time or she won't sleep through the night, make sure she stays up for her longest period during the day right before she has to go to bed. Ex, if your puppy only has 6hours of awake time right now, that should be an hour in the morning, an hour or two at lunch, and then 3-4 hours in the afternoon/evening.

We brought home a golden doodle pup in April, its the best😭❤️ went through the same as you, also slept on the floor while petting him with my finger while he cried but the puppy trainer told us as soon as you leave to sleep in your bed the process starts again so you better dont sleep next to him but its too hard! There is this dog behaviorist that is really famous, and is sharing pup tips now, cause he got one that is pretty cUte too, and his name is Cesar Millan. He is really good, I watch him a lot in quarantine, even though I have no dog, because I wouldn't have the time in the future... good luck with this little ball of fur that stole my heart for the moment... she's really cute, congrats on the addition to the family. 💖

If she is happy during the day being close to you, and cries at night even though you are next to her, it might be the cage that is triggering her sadness. Suddenly she is isolated from cuddles and warmth. Puppies are prone to depression so perhaps during this time of adapting, she can go without a cage. And after, she would only just get used to being lonely at night, or learn to love her cage. Dogs often have a nice morning life before you wake up, looking out of the window, stretching, (if they can't hold it any longer having potty accidents somewhere that isn't their bed, it would be traumatizing for them to wee in bed) if you are able to go without a cage all together then go for it ❤️ she is absolutely perfect 😍 x
