Red, I'm curious why so much octane? That's a good horsepower comparison test right there. Octane is a fuels resistance to detonation. Higher octane burns slower. High compression engines have higher cylinder pressures which can pre-ignite 87 octane gas. Hence, high compression engines needing higher octane....to prevent pre-ignition. On a low compression engine like this, 87 is more than sufficient. Higher octane in low compression engines can actually REDUCE power! Try it on the dyno and see. 87 to 89 octane non-ethanol Rec fuel is all you should need for them to ripsnot! Very excited about this dyno...can't wait to see the extra content, and see how your builds respond :D

Super stoked to see some small engine dyno videos!! I have been curious to see this for a long time!! I've really wanted to build a small engine for reliable horsepower. You should do a sort of mini "Engine Masters" series showing the different things that add the most and least to the power of the engines!

That's Awesome,and so are the suppliers.:For the love of the family and all your fans,please build a plexiglass shield for around the motor and chain area,and put real tempered glass outside it for mounting cameras,and viewing of course,as it'll be easier to clean.Less liability as the engine's surrounded by a box.The top is open for different engine sizes.
@bryduhbikeguy2 жыл бұрын
Tempered glass on both sides of the plexi will keep it from fogging,and scratching.The plexi at 3/4"-1" should keep a rod,or block part from hitting anyone if stuff happened.U supports welded on the dyno outside will let you set the box on.Hinged on the backside's better too.

My real world experiment showed an oil change with Amsoil lost horse power in my 4.7 Ram Dakota. I did a base line with an external accelerometer of 2, 1/8 mile runs before an oil change. After changing w/Amsoil I was slower by 2 tenths of the 2 runs after. Not woth the extra expense. IMO. Nice Dyno. Happy holidays!

I wouldn't do the governor delete dyno pull without a billet rod, that's a substantial and extended load on the engine. Just like doing a top speed run. But congrats brother, you've definitely come a long way.
@kylecurry684111 ай бұрын
Inertia dyno's tend to be what packages easy, and ends up being what sells by brands like DynoJet, Mustang, DynaPack, and other followers here with a scaled down version on a roller cart. At the end of the day, I guess if you get it dialed in right, and you take into account your contrast from a baseline reading to your results, that's all that matters but a water-brake dyno (torque by straingauge) that could package just as easily, without the calibrations or methods need with an inertia dyno (rate of momentum increase over time).
@scarface50284 Жыл бұрын
And thanks for mentioning the inflated numbers and how you change the flywheel to keep the numbers as close to real world as possible, quite a few builders out there who inflate their numbers and we don’t need another one.

Run a search on Amazon and look for a bike chain idler pulley. That will take out all that chain flop and slack.
@NotMeeither2 жыл бұрын
That is to high octane for an 8 to 1 engine. Octane slowes fuel burn to stop detonation in engines with higher compression. It causes HP loss in low compression engines. Put 87 octane in it and see if you get closer to the 6.5 rating.
