I had a few of my own, grew them from young animals from the pet store. The female became about 26 cm long, just a tiny bit longer then normal, tail was about 2 fingers thick. Male however was 30 cm long which is insanely long for a gecko of this species, tail was just over 3 fingers thick. I did have eggs, first batch were duds but the rest later on came out amazingly well.

I think the best way would be to find a place that will let you handle the animal. Don't make her hold them, but let her see you interacting with the animal, and she'll be able to see that they're not that scary! That's what I had to do with my rescue Hissing Cockroach that I spotted on my neighbor's fence in the middle of winter. She lived another year, and my mom loved the roach's son!
