Three years ago (roughly) Gardener Jeff was desperately trying to keep some trouble-making groundhogs OUT of his garden because they were eating too many veggies. And now? Now he’s taking a groundhog to the vet because, ironically, the groundhog isn’t able to eat enough veggies. Seriously, thanks for saving Snacks. I’ll be anxiously waiting to hear how he does. Thanks as well to the vet who’s willing to treat a groundhog. In my area, it’s very hard to find anyone willing/able to treat wild animals. 🙏🏼🥰

It's good that you put the trap a little farther away from the snack area. That way he won't associate the snack areas with this traumatizing (to him) event. So glad he's getting the medical attention he needs. I was reading about other groundhogs that have had this same problem, and the article said it was basically a death sentence. (Because in the wild, they don't have caring humans to intervene.) Prayers for quick healing and a good outcome.

This reminds me of my aunts neighbor. She worked for our local wildlife center. She often had wild babies that she was tending to in her home. Since I spent so much time at my aunts house, I got to go next door and help with the babies. I got to bottle feed baby skunks, possums, and raccoons. She also had two deer fawns whose mom hid them in the bushes in her backyard and never came back. She even had two young groundhogs whose mom got killed by a coyote. They were adorable but did Sooo much damage to their room. They ATE the baseboards and part of a table leg and a chair leg in their room. They actually would play with the baby raccoon (who was a total pickpocket). They all Loved peanut butter. Actually all the animals lived peanut butter. Our town was surrounded by woods so I guess I grew up wild too!
