I use dual Virpil Alphas, a widescreen monitor, Tobii eye tracker & FOIP. I've also used GameGlass, Reshade, TrackIR, and Voice attack. It's all less for getting an advantage and more for immersion. Except the Virpils. It wasn't for an advantage, I just wanted to have enough buttons ro keep my hands on the joysticks at all times.

Been using the Night Vision Shaders. Game changing, but I find that I only use it for flying in the night and getting to a Bunker / Outpost. Then I'm back to normal again. Since I have arthritis in my fingers, I find using the mouse wheel quite painful, and SC requires a lot of mouse wheel. So I've been using macros via AHK or VoiceAttack to help with that, and when transferring inventory as a QOL assistance. I also make use of SmoothTrack on my phone to emulate TrackIR for immersion in many games from MSFS and Project Cars to SC and ED. I don't do PVP, so I figure my use of these tools don't give me any advantage over other players and are purely for my own ease of use.

First and foremost, strategy. Personally, I prefer to ping the radar to see when the dark is too much. I also like to place a stone on an arrow key for auto run ( cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/553524986296532997/1006546180810997851/20220724_202412.jpg ) so I can savour the irony of a Stone Age solution to a Silicon Age problem. And, if researchers ever figure out how to calibrate an alpha wave reader with as much consistency as head and eye trackers, I'll be able to play hands-free in a mode that will probably allow me to simultaneously play three characters...maybe four when I'm alert.

It is absolutely beyond understanding that a game that takes place so many years in the future basically depicts world where the engineers basically forgot the very basics of flight avionics, instrumentation and like GPWS, artificial horizon, GPS, linear micro quantum jumps allowing to perform a quantum travel jump in a straight line of predefined distance or jump in direction of a beacon but let the autopilot exit the jump at pilot-selectable distance from target beacon etc. Hell... even as simple thing as a compass in the flightsuit/helmet when walking on foot is missing a thing we these days have in pretty much every smartphone... As far as the night vision goes, I would much more like to see a thermal vision and synthetic aperture AR view instead of actual night vision (basically a persistent terrain overlay, same as we get for a brief moment now when pinging). Also, both ship and suit scanners should be able to detect EM emissions from electronic devices making looking for lost crewmembers easier as long as they are still wearing their flightsuits and armor that do contain electronic devices... So... yeah... When one thinks about it the universe and technology as modeled by CIG in SC does not make sense as it is, in many fields, basically stuck in the stone age... As far as for reshade being cheating... Nope... It is a supported tool and if someone chooses to use it then it is fine with me. I personally don't use it and I still don't mind if others do. Though I'd definitely prefer to have some kind of augmented vision system in game by default. Well... Maybe one day... Children of children of our children may live to the day when such feature reaches at least alpha... :)

I tried the night vision you made, it's really cool and adds something that should be into the game by default, either as something built into the helmets/ships or something you can buy that attaches to the helmets. I'm still trying to tweak the colors tho to try and get that more phosphorous blue color the newer NVGs have, but I haven't made anything that provides the same level of or better visibility yours provides.

I tried the reshade app with the configuration file and it appeared to not make much difference. Possibly my graphics settings. In any case, my biggest gripe, is that 900 years into the future, you would have thought that the space stations would have appropriate lighting when on the dark side... As it is, I usually have to jump into 3rd person view to mske sure im correctly positioned for landing and hopefully not bump into anything on the way in...😁

I think CIG just needs to implement a "tier 0" version of night vision at the very least before making any decisions on any reshade night vision. Hopefully with the new UI cards, should they work at least 90% of the time, it'd go some way toward implementing a "night vision/vision enhancer" even if it's just a UI card overlay over a ship's cockpit window to add a bit more grounded realism

With the ping system it's 'almost' tier 0. I think if they just left the terrain highlighted (significantly) longer after a ping, like computer now 'sees it' and remembers, it would be 99% of what people need to start with.

Knowing CIG they'll want to add night vision in a way that emphasizes player choice. Something like helmets with slots for different modules focused for flight, combat flight, FPS combat, mining etc. Sort of like ship components but a little simpler. Sure you could take a NV module but here are these other mmodules with super helpful functions and you can only choose X number of them. Then theres damage and wear & tear and repairs and costs to take into account. Until they decide what they want to implement Reshade should be allowed though.

CIG has actually whitelisted the mod in the EasyAntiCheat database, since NV is a feature they want to have in the game, just haven't gotten round to it yet. It's a QoL improvement for players amd I am glad CIG sees it that way and allows it since they haven't implemented NV features yet themselves.

I typically do not mod games as it almost always leads to issues during updates and patches. Reshade does not seem like a game mod, but have never tried it. I saw you mentioned changing the display settings in game. That is great for night time activities but the moment you fly to the light, you are blinded. Does reshade automatically adjust settings depending on the light levels in a scene or is it also completely manual? I would love to see better in the night so I stop running into space stations and asteroids. Also dislike having to constantly ping to see anything. Maybe they can give us a keybind for repeated ping. Press to start the ping, press to stop the ping. You get a ping every second or 2. So it is not constant vision to make night time a little harder as it should be, but also you do not have to keep pressing the ping button.

The ping is not the greatest that's for sure. I'd like to see them highlight things for much longer at the very least. Reshade has an effect called "eye adaptation" you may be able to use for on the fly adjustments of gamma/brightness/shadows. Essentially you can have it measure a certain area of the screen and dynamically brighten or dim gamma/brightness like a pupil.

Depends on the location, but I generally just crank Gamma and Sharpness and then add Brightness / Contrast to taste. I generally start at 75 brightness vs 100 Gamma. Neither will let you see well in areas with clouds or smoke/fog etc.

Do these tools ( so many of them ... and I had to laugh at it all ) give unfair advantages? heck yes! But you know what? I think all of these tools are just things that diversify the player base - which is a good thing. This creates the opportunity for players to customize their own rig as far as they want, or not at all. For those of us who want to dive all in and have a dedicated room in the basement that simply houses our SpaceSimPit, we can! For others, like my kids, who are just thrilled to play a game with dad with their mouse and keyboard, they can! This is a super smart way of allowing more types of players to congregate together. Less invested players can hang out in lower risk areas, participate in lower risk activities, or have fun fighting with more invested players to raise their innate abilities and skill to conquer all for less money. Tools obviously make things easier, but skill, experience, and tactics play such a strong part that it can still be fun for anyone. There will always be others better than you and worse than you. We just all have to find what part of the universe we enjoy the most.

Regards nightvision.....in ships or on ground. I think CIG should when they add scanning to the game, at that point add EM/THERMAL vision modes to ships HUDS. We dont need traditional green fuzzy real life right now nightvision. We should have a new way to see. Seeing the thermal emissions from ships, vehicles and troops(using high tech weapons and active armour suits). Even electromagnetic emission from tech foot troops are carrying. The electronic systems on vehicles and ships. We have missiles in game that track targets using that concept.

I think one of the reasons why cig did not yet implement nightvision is that they may want to emulate what night vision goggles really do. Real night vision goggles enhanceof the infrared spectrum which is hidden to the human eye. This kind of information is not stored in texture data and so it would be quiet the feat to generate immersive IR data on the fly. I guess ships, vehicles and players/npc would be easy to implement but how to handle static entities like rocks, ground, trees etc ? It's cig's strive for realism and believability which slows everything down. But then again, that is why we still want SC to prosper :S

I bet people would argue that using autohotkey for moving things from one inventory to another is a cheat/exploit. It's made the cumbersome and horribly unoptimized inventory system more manageable while saving my wrist and sanity. It's free, extremely easy to set up, and in no way gives me a competitive advantage in any scenario. I tell everyone I can about it. It's a nice QoL feature CIG should've added to the game long ago IMO.

n my opinion, at least when the game reaches its GOLD version, they should not allow filters or reshades like these and, I go further, they should disable or limit the third person view, since used in various unintentional ways they can be exploited, especially considering the penalties discussed in "Death of a Spaceman".

I agree, that these should be in game. But they really don't give that much of an advantage. A skilled player with none of these will still dominate a noob with all of them. That being said I personally have better than most natural night vision in r/l so when I play SC and can't see what I normally can then it feels off. Because of this I have a bit of day blindness as well. So, do I get to call cheats on you when the sun is up and I get blinded by the surface of a moon? Reshade helps balance much of this, and can make for a more comfortable experience. Though I agree, these settings should be in game. It doesn't feel right using 3rd party tools for this.
