Built up areas are not conducive to fixed interval training. You need to plan a rural route which minimises disruptions, plan to avoid intervals on downhill stretches of road and recovery segments on uphill.

nice idea having the app change what training you do based on what you've previously done. Garmin lets you know if you are doing to much in one particular area but then you have to choose what to do. For novices having that help you will make a difference.

I've tried this app before. And got similar issues with it regarding translating structured training i to real world (road and gravel) was beyond tricky, great for the trainer though. Another thing was the "adaptive training" calculated an FTP improvement of 30% of its own calculation over night (after a good session) and made any training almost impossible to follow. Needed to do a test and manually override the AI result. So AI is not always that "I"

It seems Trainer Road is years ahead of that software.. AI FTP detection, adaptive training among others.
@lechprotean
@lechprotean Жыл бұрын
yeah, pretty risk to run an ad for software that most people know has a better alternative. I assume they will start pushing myWhoosh next, thinking no one knows about Zwift... Also I feel like "AI' is almost too much for the training which can be pretty simple - if your FTP is X, you set your intervals at a % of X and progressively make them harder or longer, with rest/recovery days in between. It's pretty simple really.

Looks like a great thing to go through as a couple! However I have to say there were two issues here: there’s no way two people with such different fitness should follow the same training plan. And also we if you chose a 1min max effort as a measure of fitness for what’s essentially an endurance objective. FTP at minimum, or VO2max, should align better with the effort you are preparing for

That was really interesting. AI coaching sounds cool. But, is it better than human coaching? Or, is AI simply taking it's information from all of the human coaching out there and deciding what is best given all of the information you inputted? Or, did it come up with it's own idea's. I really want to know. My head is melting! Nice to meet Chloe, Alex is clearly batting out of his league, fair play:)

My concern about using AI as a coach is to what extent it will consider the human emotional aspect, when suggesting a training plan. Will it primarily focus on providing the most efficient training plan for a specific goal? That might work perfect for a robot cyclist, but a human is more complex. The most efficient plan might not be the most efficient in combination with human feelings.
@dthornew
@dthornew Жыл бұрын
Well, at least you can tell it how you feel on a daily basis, as well as give feedback on each training segment, including RPE. I was fairly happy when it suggested I take an easy day after I'd completed a couple of sessions, but I rated the RPE as "hard". That's at least better than my experience with the Zwift training plans.

Another great insight from the latest GCN dynamic duo. AI is certainly a curious method but if it makes adjustments based on your workout results it sounds like a well thought out program. Why wouldn't AI coaching closely duplicate human coaching efforts? Further, there is likely a broad disparity in human coaches. AI algorithms are based upon the same protocols that humans choose to coach their riders. Over time as AI further evolves, it will supplant a human coach because AI will draw from a larger data base. Disparity in calculation capability between AI and humans for best regiments in cycling training is likely miniscule. Humans are limited by the size of their brain cortex in terms of information capacity and why the human race is doomed. 😉 Good luck to you two in your marriage and cycling endeavors. To me personally, trying to find that last watt of FTP takes the fun out of it....or you have to really want it bad and quite rare for a married couple to share exactly the same motivation.

A bit disappointed this is a sponsored video. A much more informative video would be been to have 4 cyclists being coached. 2 with real life coach and 2 with an AI coach. But one of the two, in each group, would be blind to the experiment and not know what type of coach they had. The similar testing could be done before and after to gauge performance increase. Also not have any sponsors (related to coaching) to remove any possible bias.

GCN always produces interesting content, non-biased experiments are not really part of it. I'm not sure but I'd guess that most reviews are paid product placements so you have to take it with a grain of salt. You make an excellent proposal for comparison though.

@@blairdrader5490 I completely understand. My disappointment came from the title and getting some honest feedback about ai coaching but no matter the outcome it will always be positive. I refer to GCN speaking positively about the Shimano power meters which are notoriously inaccurate.

This would not have happened if it's not a sponsored video. I don't understand people's beef with sponsored videos. You have brains so just filter out your doubts while watching. Research and find your own truth. Don't blame sporsored videos for not getting everything that you need.
