You asked for comments, so here is one: The logs that are short can still be used around doors & windows, & should also be supported & up off the ground. Logs are just like lumber, if you want them to remain straight or flat, you must support them on both ends as well as in the middle. I grew up working at my Dad's Saw Mill. It was hard work, but you learn a lot about milling trees & lumber. You guys are working so hard, & if you plan on using some of those logs in you cabin, you will want to keep them as straight as possible. Looks like you are doing a good job. God Bless. 🙏 ❤💙

Mel and Gary - I'm quite impressed with the progress y'all are making. I love that Abe is right there with you. He is an excellent apprentice! He'll definitely know how to build his own home when that time comes. Sweet! Just curious about something though....if you are calling the concrete blocks 'bricks', then what would you call this wall??🧱 lol! Stay hydrated! Take care, Patricia

I use to work at a telephone pole company. Please stay out of the pinch when rolling those logs on the skids. Those logs are really unpredictable where the pivot point might be or how much the other person is going to turn them. I have seen several guys hurt from doing the same thing. At least on the other side, you have room to run.

Micki, I was going to say the same thing about the children. Also Mel, call your construction guy, the one who has helped y'all, and ask him if he has any suggestions or a site where they can be dumped, or maybe he can dig you a deep hole to bury them? Just a thought....

Good for you letting Abe help.. it really makes them feel they’re contributing to building their future house..Mel if you haven’t got one yet, get a book on healing plants.. we have so many in the state.. also be sure the kids are aware of the poison ones.. Polk berries look like they’re good to eat but, are poisonous.. the leaves if picked young and processed correctly are eatable.. I’ve never tried it however..by the time y’all get all those logs wrestled around, you’ll have some muscles for sure.. y’all are doing great..

Gee whiz, that's a good idea you came up with by putting at least 3 logs on your first tier of the log stack. Instead of looking for trees to use at ground level, put the drone up & go in ever widening circles. Finding standing dead trees would be preferable, less drying time. Have fun. Should have some space between the logs on the second tier for air circulation also.

I'm sure you have heard of My Self Reliance channel- he ends up using a lot of innovative ways to deal with the logs he is using for his cabins. Don't know if any would work for you but it might be worth a look. I think I'm all for pushing the some of the root balls down the hill to let nature reclaim it- little critters can use it for shelter. And someone mentioned using for target practice.

Just subscribed. First video. I’m an old guy who spent about 100 years in construction. I’ve been watching several off grid building videos and see all these young folks killing themselves horsing heavy stuff around. I have no idea of your budget, or maybe it’s a matter of principle with y’all to do it all by hand but a small tractor with an end loader and some chains would save you so much time and work not to mention not wearing yourselves out so much.
