I'll give y'all a tip about y'all's pepper plants. Right before the first frost cut your pepper plants at ground level then mulch with straw or leaves. Next spring the pepper plants will come back and produce abundance of peppers. But then then the next fall you'll have to pull the pepper plants out and replant pepper seed for you third year peppers. Pepper plants will produce from the first seed that you plant. The second tip is never use hay for mulch because hay is a grass and has seeds then you'll have Timothy, fescue, or alfalfa grass growing in your vegetable garden. Straw is better to mulch around your vegetable straw is wheat byproduct after it's been harvest and has no seeds. The straw will break down and put nitrogen and other minerals back into your soil making your garden soil rich for you vegetable plants along with your rabbit and chicken and goat manure. And Gary if you put your trimmer string in water and soak it over night it will soften up your trimmer string which is made out of plastic and make it more flexible and last longer and it won't break as easily. My friend told me that and I tried it and he was right I did have to keep feeding the trimmer string out as often and it didn't break as much.

great outcome - recommend putting in mulch around your plants to suppress weeds/grass from growing up. Also, recommend getting more blueberry, raspberry and blackberry bushes to plant on the slop of the garden terrace to help hold in the soil and put them in easy reach for harvesting. Fig trees grow really quickly, as do elderberry plants if you want other options.

Dear Mel, fill your blocks with dirt. And plant marigolds and herbs in them. They will help keep some bug pests away. And look good and give you tasty things to cook with. By putting herbs in the blocks you will keep them in check so they don't take over. You could even put other vegetables in some spaces and expand your garden.

Greetings from Northeast Ohio. Gary, i’m so disappointed that you didn’t listen to my advice last year. This is The regarding the tree to heaven that is still growing on your bank and turning into more than one tree. Please believe me when I tell you that once the trees get a hold they will take over and they’re very hard to get rid of. At 9:40 The trees were visible. Those are the trees that will multiply. I know they look pretty, but they are not. They are intrusive.

that plant your thinking of transplanting into another pot looks suspiciosly like a bamboo. it might be one that spreads,so be careful with it.
@AdamofCA.
@AdamofCA. 3 күн бұрын
Because i watch home renovations in Asia, Asians use field Bamboo (as thick as a man's arm) to build homes. Field Bamboo is as strong as Oak. Hence, that Bamboo is used to build scaffolds for construction sites thruout Asia . And it doesn't deteriorate as fast as as wood. And yes, it spreads quickly . As an ornament (the red berries in the winter are a treat for the birds) that grows like a hedge to cover up my neighbors panel wood fence, i purposely grow Heavenly Bamboo whose spongy stalk is no thicker than the small finger. Heavenly Bamboo is easy to trim and control because the roots are only 4 inches deep. My front porch has a Heavenly Bamboo on each side of the steps shaped to look like torches. During the winter holidays (TG & Xmas), those red berries receive the compliment of being beautiful holiday decorations. Hearing those remarks always make me smile.

ANTS FROM HELL!!👹 Red Fire Ants! I HATE 'EM!😡 The bite hurts but ALSO, within the next day or so there will be a small white PUSTULE where each bite was. They ITCH! And that makes you suseptable to secondary infections. I think a ptoduct called "OVER & OUT" works best, sometimes hard to find. Comes in a shaker can of BAIT to treat mounds, or bulk bags of poison granules to broadcast everywhere but then it must be watered in. Right before a rain works great. Second choice would be AMDRO. IF you disturb a mound they won't leave but spread out to make more mounds on your property. YIKES! Just think how bad for kids playing in the yard, sit in the grass and get covered!😢 Hope you can control them. ❤❤❤❤

Such a blessing! God is smiling at you! Passionfruit has lots of health benefits. The new plant takes from 18 months to 2 years to produce fruit. So some time next year (if you didn't pull up the roots) you will get fruit. Because it is mostly considered a tropical plant, you could mulch over it for the winter, if you did not get all the roots. it is best to grow it in a greenhouse.

I don't understand why you don't use wood chips to strew the paths around your green beds. There is enough dead wood and branches on your property to chip. You'll be rid of most of your weeds. That kills two birds with one stone.
@SimpleLifeReclaimed
@SimpleLifeReclaimed 3 күн бұрын
The garden already has ground cloth. The weeds come up inside the beds on the fence line and on the block line. Wood chips wouldn't help in this application. But we appreciate your suggestion.

I can relate to the ants issue. We have what research has led me to believe are field ants. A horrible infestation. We have been told we are the only place in the county like this. The only way I have took the numbers down was getting my equipment and clearing this place. Not only do we have the massive ant mounds but every bush or tree I have removed is just covered in them. It's like the root balls are ant mounds also. We can't do anything outside without dealing with ants. It's not as bad now but it made gardening a chore lol. We all get behind on things. I didn't manage my garden like I wanted to this year. It can get away from you quick. Now this place is cleared I can't wait to complain about weeds again lol. The dust and mud is driving me crazy. I wanted to edit and add, once you get the cabin and everything done it will be easier to maintain everything. I know the feeling of finding the time for everything when you have projects that seem to never end. You all work hard and have earned to get behind on a few weeds. Lol.

@@marywise2703 If you have been watching SLR videos then you know they have been busy. Mel and Gary's just like anyone else. They have projects they want to get done during the summer time they want to take time off and take their children swimming, and fishing. They like to spend time with their other family. And when one of their friends is needing their help to take time to go help their friend or friends. Raising a garden is not a first priority in a person's life. When it's really hot outside no one wants to be out there working in their vegetable garden when it's raining no one wants to be out there working in their vegetable garden. So so what if the weeds overtakes the garden. Weeds overtakes my garden every year and whenever I can find the time then I'll go into my vegetable gardens and work them when the weather is cooler and not raining. I know it's been said before, you really need to get something growing in them cinder blocks. Otherwise they are just havens for insects and snails etc, oh and weeds. In Australia they'd be perfect for red back spiders to live. Fill 3/4 with soil then mulch on top. This will make the blocks less likely to move also.

Just a thought experiment for us viewers to get an idea of the scale of things: how many goats do you figure you’d need to keep the entire homestead in constant check without having to mow anything yourselves?
