I've lived in Bucharest for most of my life and despite what Johnny says, Bucharest is a very safe city overall and you shouldn't be discouraged from visiting it. This is also backed by stats. One bad experience that Bald & Johnny experience doesn't equate to the city being dangerous. People are generally very friendly and welcoming, but you will always find some people that will try to take advantage of naive foreigners.

Obviously it's a quiet and safe place compared to, say, Tijuana or even lots of major cities in the U.S. but compared to many Western European capitals - it just isn't safe to be everywhere at any time of day.

Dude, the police station is like 5 minutes away. They could go to prison for upto 10 years for "privation of liberty", and blackmail. You can still file a petition to the police, even online, upto 30 days after the incident. LE: You could also go to prison if you buy high risk drugs in Romania though, so take that into acount also.

As a Romanian i think this is exaggerating. I am from Bucharest and i think is one of the safest city in Europe (don't take my word for it just check the statistics.) Odessa is much more worser when it comes to bar/restaurant scams. Pretty much all Odessa center was full of scammers (before the war) yet, didn't seem to bother with that did back then, did you? You guys basically invited them to scam you. If you invite random people/strangers/pretty girls that you don't know and start party with them and throw up with free shoots on them you are going to be an easy target anywhere in the world, not only in Bucharest. By the way, i reside in Krakow now, do you know how many strip clubs that scam people are in the old town center here? And how many naive tourist get robbed on daily basis? Is that mean Poland is a scam country or Krakow is a dangerous city and all restaurants are a scam? No way! Its a simple rule: you don't go to strip clubs in Europe unless you want to get robbed! Same with the restaurants/bars, you need to check where you go first, and definitely do NOT invite random pretty girls that pretend are costumers there! But i was expecting this since your first video in Bucharest when you walked on the street and keep trashing how dangerous the city is and someone maybe will steal your camera (despite that no one on the street was give a sh*t about that.) Now, next, i expect you to go in some remote sh*tty area and bring the Gypsy subject just as BBC is doing in their fake documentaries when they want to show how bad Eastern Europe is. Romania and Bucharest has its own issues as an Eastern European country/city, but definitely the dangerous one is not on the list. Its much more likely to get robbed or even killed on the streets in London, Paris, or Bruxelles than in any city in Eastern Europe. And that's a fact! A very intriguing video from Johnny FD and at least keep his wits about him in that situation. I was actually in and around the same location in the old town, Bucharest exactly a week ago (Saturday, July 1st) on a bar tour. From my experience of being Old Town Bucharest, I did feel not that dangerous, was keeping my wits about myself and not getting too drunk (I needed to walk to the Piata Romana). Walking back at 3. am to the Hotel Christina from the old town I felt safer than being in my hometown here in the UK. I had heard that the Strip Clubs were mega rip-offs and charging loads of Euros, so avoided them (their Bulgarian counterparts charge in Leva). I believe that Taxis in Bucharest had to be avoided as well apart from using Uber and Bolt. During the two nights that I spent in the Old Town fortunately I encountered no such negative incidents as the ones shown in the video. Anyway, great seeing the 2 Big Names of the KZbin Universe in one place, and brought back very recent memories of nights in Bucharest.

Don't go to strip clubs and let yourself be used man, I am 32 yo romanian from Bucharest never got robbed or scamed here in my life. I never been to strip club also,because it's a waste of money and time. The level of scam I would say it's the same as in many european countries,including western countries Spain, Italy, Portugal etc. So don't get yourself in that situation in the first place, it's common sense. Are people proposing all kind of shady things to you? Always you can find those sort of people and in every country. Someone tried to scam me in UK as a tourist a while ago,just before the Covid situation, in Turkey and Greece almost everytime there is someone trying to scam tourists for something also..

I'll start by saying that my wife and I are fans of your content Johnny, it's usually insightful and as much educational as it is entertaining as far as what eastern Europe is really like. My mother in law has lived at Piata Romana for decades so I know this area very well, as well as my own hometown. I also know the touristy area's like old town very well too as I've spent weeks at a time in Bucharest starting from the mid 90's. in fact we've been in Bucharest for 2 weeks already this summer and are heading back there today. We've been anticipating that you'd be in Romania sooner or later given all your recent adventures so I've been watching for you and I'm sad that I missed you guy's. All that being said this video was super disapointing. I would like everyone that see's this to know that if your out doing shots with super hot local girls in a tourist area anywhere in the world your definitely putting yourself in great danger. This video could have been in Paris or Vancouver or wherever. Go anywhere after midnight and you'll find it to be quite sketchy, in any city, for sure. I can say that Bucharest today is more comfortable for me to walk around, day or night, than my hometown of Seattle. 25 years ago I could not say that. I couldn't even walk 2 blocks around Piata Romana without being hassled by undesireables. Even the police would try to shake me down back then. But it's gotten waaaaay better thanks to the hard work of the government and the people themselves. I know this as a fact from my personal experience over the years. This video is not so much a reflection on the realities of what Romania is like, it's more a reflection on what can happen if your a very nieve traveller and put yourself into compromising situations. Bucharest is really a great city and they've worked very hard to make it so, I guess that's why I'm so dissapointed in this video. In the end, I feel just as safe in Bucharest as I do in any city, actually safer than a lot of places these days.

Romania has a rich culture, rich history, smart intelligent people, etc. Oh, and I saw in your other video you were there to attend a conference for WebCam Girls based in Romania. Yes I understand that is an industry in Romania. I myself see little value to that service. The party-town area of old town Bucharest is EXACTLY the kind of place that is dangerous late at night, and would be filled with scams waiting for drunks. In Poland, there was a loud criminal case of a chain of go-go clubs named "Cocomo", its customers happened to wake the very next day with a memory loss, at random places with emptied credit cards/bank accounts. It turned out the staff drugged them to the point they routinely entered (albeit barely) PIN codes to confirm card transactions without paying attention to sums on the terminal display, many times a night (one poor guy got an equivalent of > 100k $ off his company's card - I wonder how he explained this expense at work for "show for gentlemen"). It turned out the mastermind behind this had his control room in Kraków where he monitored the situation in all his clubs and provided hints for the staff. It is better to stay away from such places, or at the very least be very suspicious if their staff tries to split your group.
