You have no recourse. The police didn't help you because they're part of the problem. The officer who declined to help you is probably one of the thieves stealing from the boats, or he knows his friends and family are committing the robberies. If you feel insecure, it's not just because your home / boat was invaded, it's because your safety is at risk as long as you remain there.

It happened in French side and honestly, I’m not surprised by what you experienced with the police and their response. Unfortunately, we’re used to this. They rarely lift a finger for things like this, which is both shameful and disappointing. You’re approaching this situation from an American perspective, where property is property, and the right to defend yourself and your home is deeply ingrained. But for Europeans, even if they share the same mindset as you, they know they don’t have the same rights. The concept of standing your ground or having multiple options to protect your family and property is almost unheard of here. That said, I’m glad you took a stand. Regardless of what others might think, I think it’s important to show that people can’t just do whatever they want without consequences. One day, these repeat offenders might cross someone even angrier than you and face a much harsher response. Anyway, we love your channel, and we love both of you! You need a Dobermann. Or at least some pictures of one or two taken on your boat to show the locals.. I was in the Navy 100 years ago. We were in the VI having a great time with some Cruisers at a bar. One of the couples we met was anchored off toward our ship. Some of my crew and I, were headed back on a motor whale boat and we were passing the boat our new friends owned. My buddy saw someone on the boat with a flashlight and said he was robbing the boat. We talked our boatswain into making another pass by their boat. Sure as shit, all of us saw the guy with the flashlight and it wasn't either of our new friends. He radioed our ship to send another boat. (ARMED)..... Our ship radioed the local cops and within about 5 minutes the boat was lit up like the sun was shineing. We held the guy until the local cops got there and he was arrested. He had been loading everything he found into a boat that I couldn't believe floated at all... The owners of the boat were brought out to their boat to verify their stuff and the woman, (who looked a lot like Sasha's sister), open handedly hammered the robber in the face, breaking his nose. The cops did NOTHING!! hahaha... Anyway, that night we stopped a robbery and showed some locals that the US NAVY is NOT to be fucked with..... My 88 yr old mom invited a lady in her house who ended up stealing from her even after my mom literally gave her $500 (she had a sob story). Mom lives in the country and for 60 years never had any problems. Now she can’t be alone. All because her home and trust were violated. I personally now realize that entire feeling. Glad you both are ok.

Just saw your video. One thing you did wrong was not have a GPS on your devises this way, you can see where they are. Second is when in the island NEVER get super friendly with local especially when drinking. You were set up by that group when they were drinking, getting information about what your boat. They left to scout youboat because they added a person letting them know what you guys were up to. Install camaras and light that will flash on night when activated by doors or any area of your vesel this way, they will leave because everyone can see lights flash

Things like this happen on all of the islands…Locals are used to tourists going there to spend money, knowing most are only there for a day so they get what they can. Not much that you can do about it but protect yourself and your belongings.

This happens also in the great US. That doesn't mean that the whole US is corrupt?

If you're going to boycott this island because it's corrupt, then you need to boycott every single other island in the Caribbean. They are all the same. Pretty theft is always an issue on these islands. Be aware, be smart, and try not to make yourself an easy target.

If you're going to boycott this island because of corruption, then you'll need to boycott every Caribbean island because they are all the same. Petty theft is a problem in the Caribbean. You just need to be smart, minimize your risks, and don't make yourself a target. This trio targeted them, gained their trust and probably talked about things like what kind of boat they had, where it was anchored, cool stuff they had on their boat etc. the lesson here is to be careful who you get chumy with and what you tell them. There are apps like noforeignland with details of all reported crimes that help you identify hot spots and anchorages to be wary of. Keep your dinghy locked up while on shore and never ever leave it tied up or even locked up in the water behind your boat overnight. Good chance it will eventually find a new home.

@@MIUBHI007 wrong, if we would stick together and not spend our money on islands like that and make it clear why we prefer to stay on the boat for partying and eating, the locals would be so much more interested in improving security on the island. and those locals can only behave like because they are backed political agendas; where even the police becomes a betrayer to the own people.

@ I am not saying anything about this being ok. I hate thieves, but don’t make it easy for them. I am a former cop of 30 years, and cruiser. We lived on our boat for 7 years. We always tried to make our boat a hard target for thieves. We locked the companion way when away or at night. The top step had a sensor pad, that when stepped on, activated a very loud alarm speaker that was mounted half way up the mast. Any hatches large enough to climb through had a metal cross bar which we flipped up and locked from the inside when we were away or at night. This allowed us to leave the hatches open for cooling. We also cable locked anything on the deck, so that it couldn’t be easily stolen. We never left anything expensive in the cockpit. We locked it down below. We stayed in many locations which had dodgy locals, and never got broken into or had stuff stolen, where others around us did. Yes it’s a pain to always lock things up but to us it was worth it.

Victim blaming. That's nice. Sasha, time to ditch the swimsuit for pants and sleeves. Wouldn't want to tempt anyone who lacks self control. 🤬 They stole 3 things- 1 item for all 3 involved. Orlando likely ended up with the drone for use of the jetski. Hope DJI can help you out with that and lock it down. Glad y'all recovered one of them.

Definitely taking St. Martin off my list of cruising destinations. There are far too many other options to put up with that level of corruption and organized crime. Hopefully the law-abiding residents wake up. Their entire economy is 80% tourism, so they need to put pressure on the police and elected officials to crack down on crime and corruption like this… or literally everyone will suffer as word spreads throughout the cruising industry, i.e. cruise ships & sailors.

I'd make sure this video ends up in the hands of the Port Master and Governor of the island. This is a huge black mark on the anchorage. If it gets around that thieves can steal from boats there and the police won't do anything cruisers will start avoiding the place. Serious business when your economy depends on tourism.

Unfortunately this is the norm on a lot of the islands in the Caribbean. You were lucky things didn't escalate, and yes the authorities won't lift a finger. Best advice I can give is invest in a good electronic security system with lights, and sound, and some high quality locks. The dinghy, and outboard motor are also targets for theft. Just make it real difficult for someone to get at your stuff, and they will pass it up looking for an easier target. Also avoid getting chummy with any locals as a lot of them are running some kind of scam. If you reflect back on the situation, you really did set yourselves up as a prime target for being robbed.

Was sailing in SXM from Nov 11 to Dec 11. Never felt comfortable on shore and always kept dingy Locked . Gran Case was scary on shore . Last night in SXM herd gunshots around midnight . Caribbean islands are dangerous, last Jan had Wallet stolen in Grenada it included my Passport and bank cards. You do not want to be stuck on an island with no passport and very limited cash. The Grenada episode was in the same marina where the US couple were hijacked and murdered. My incident in Grenada was just 15 days before, i remember their boat just before i got a temporary passport and was able to leave. Stay safe out there.

Loved St Martin used to be one of the top destinations. Always recommending to friends., no longer. We will never go back as this type of theft has become regular and must be acceptable to the government. Otherwise, the government put an end to it. Those are bar flies; they are on every island. I lived on a small Caribbean island and owned a bar for 13 years; unfortunately they played you. They have nothing so they see an opportunity and they take it. Makes me not want to visit…like you said St Marten needs to get their act together. So glad you are all okay!! It’s people and situations like that, which have made me not trust locals….its upsetting
@stormer63647 күн бұрын
Sorry this happened! Being robbed by the people you were drinking with was no coincidence! they were so many steps ahead, you probably even told them the name and description of your boat, they probably even invited you to their bar in the first place, how did they know your boat with so many others there? Unbelievable that they were even able to find it in the dark? You were totally set-up and unfortunately they now know you're a soft target and will know anytime the tender is on the beach they can board your boat. Ive sailed into many countries more dangerous than this and the police are in on these things they know the criminals and they choose not to do anything as if they do maybe there are consequences for their families. The best way to not be a target is to not present as you have anything to steal, dont wear anything flashy, don't have expensive things and dont tell people that you're on a boat, loose lips sink ships.. i guess the new scooters were too hard to resist ,must have been a nice Christmas present for someone. You do need to be more careful and learn to control your emotions, someone could of quite easily been stabbed and killed. I was once confronted by 3 guys one with a sword, i had nothing on me so could lose nothing.

They lack so much details in their story. Remember they completely shot & edited the video so they made sure make themselves look 100% like victims (which they were) and kept in every bit of information where they were lacking wisdom. We as an island are definitely wrong for this but these people feel they better than us. They believed we would all die without them. furthermore wherever they’re from got a much higher crime rate than us here in SXM ……
@Mayleeyah22176 күн бұрын
@ I agree with what you are saying, details are lacking! Seems like this happened months ago and only now they doing a video on it.. that’s why I asked about the beach bar because all there is there now is a big construction site. Which isn’t cool, because we are in high season, and this kind of publicity won’t help.. they should be more transparent. As for making themselves « look good », that’s what Influencers, KZbinrs, etc are paid to do.. The guy from the video doesn’t look like the one they had drinks the night before with also.. but hey, I am just happy they are safe to tell their story!
