Hey Bobby, this is literally the first time I have ever commented on anything on KZbin. I have been watching you since 2018. I am out of the Clear Lake/Kemah area. Been boating all my life. That damage looks much more than a beached boat with water ingress over the stern. I have seen a cat experience much worse conditions and have no where near the kind of damage your boat has here. I would simply like to help you is all. I hope you reach back out to me because I see several manufacturing issues with your boat. Not that they are bad people at all, but this should be a lesson learned for them. This appears to be the fault of the shipping company end of story! Clearly what happened was far worse than what had been disclosed. Again, I wish you the best on this, and would not mind helping you with your insurance claim. Yes, I’m an expert on that. Feel free to contact me if you want and I’ll give you my number should you like. I also have contacts in Singy worse case, but I see this as an easy one. Best of luck to you Bobby!

There was NOTHING close to extreme about the weather conditions reported here. This incident bears no resemblance to what did in the boat you were associated with. Did you all see the episode where The Windlass would not retrieve the chain when the motors were not running a kept blowing the main fuse on the entire boat? Makes me think that the transferring skipper ran into this problem what's putting out only 15 M of chain
@falkpatt13 сағат бұрын
15m is just under 4:1 scope/depth ratio, which should have held in that weather. Gusts to 20 knots is not that bad at all. 7:1 is the max scope you'd need, which would be 28 meters of scope. 50 would be overkill, about 12:1 scope... totally unnecessary in that kind of wind.
@davedavids961911 сағат бұрын
@@falkpatt 15 mtrs is just under 4 : 1 ? How on earth do you get to that calculation ? I hope you don't anchor like that on your own boat ! The depth is 4.1 mtr, but to that you need to add the distance from sea level to the height of the windlass and on top of that you need to add the wave height. So that makes it 4.1 plus 1 (waves) plus about 1.5 (to the windlass). That makes it 6.6 mtrs and in my book 15 divided by 6.6 is just 2.27, not 4. The whole idea of a scope came from making it easier for people to understand the mathematics of anchoring. The whole idea after all is to compensate the forces the wind, waves and current can put on the anchor and chain. Since not everyone is capable of understanding the mathematics they came up with this scope idea. And for most part it will work, but it is not a given that at a certain scope you won't drag. An anchor will only have maximum holding power when the shank is level with the sea bed. If the chain is too short the angle of the chain with the sea bed is going to be steep. And that angle is from the sea bed to the windlass (therefore you need to calculate that distance as well). Add a wave into the calculation and everytime a wave passes under the bow the angle of the chain with the sea bed will increase, creating a jerking motion on the anchor shank and anchor. Now, put some wind and current forces on the boat, pushing the boat backwards and the chain will not only become tight, it will also raise the shank and because of that the anchor will lose holding power. The shank will not just pull backwards, it will also pull the anchor upwards, out of the sea bed. So the stronger the wind is the more chain you need to put out and the same goes for a lighter chain. After all, a lighter chain won't be able to withstand the forces as good as a heavy chain. The chain has a weight per meter and the anchor has a weight plus holding power for a specific sea bed, which is based on the anchor being well set and the shank being level with the sea bed. As soon as you raise the shank the anchor will start to lose holding power and at 25 degrees the anchor has lost all holding power. So the idea is that the anchor plus chain are able to withstand the forces mother nature can put on the boat and thereby on the anchor and chain. If those forces are higher than the total holding power the anchor will drag. If the total holding power is higher than the forces on the boat, the anchor will hold. You can calculate the forces (wind and current) on the boat and since you know the weight of anchor plus chain, plus you know the holding power for a specific sea bed, you can calculate your total holding power. On my boat I have a table which gives me the total holding power for each sea bed and chain length. I also have a table that will give me the total wind forces at each Bft, so it is easy for me to calculate how much chain I need to put out. I.o.w. I don't work with scopes. If you would have been to a maritime school they would have taught you that and you would not have written what you wrote now. So no, a scope of 2.27 is not going to hold anything. A scope of 7 : 1would be necessary here, but trust me, I have had to anchor with scopes of well over 10 : 1, even over 15 : 1. Last year I was anchored in a 8 Bft storm for 4 days, the first 45 mtrs we solid off the sea bed and up to 80 mtrs the chain was still getting jerked around.It was 3.2 mtrs deep, my bow is 3 mtrs above the sea level, waves were minimal. I had 100 mtrs chain in the water, so that is a scope of a little over 16 : 1. I did not drag because I had calculated what I needed to put out. I.o.w. if you want to anchor safely you have to understand how to calculate what you need in the water. Just following simplified projections is going to get you into trouble. Knowledge is everything.

@AdventuresonTour3 күн бұрын
Even with Diesel, there are still all kinds of electronics on new engines. The water leaking around the shaft seals that caused the electronics failure could have happened with diesel as well. Sounds like the real issue here was not enough anchor chain was put out, to hold the boat.

Delivery captains normally have a reliability insurance for their deliveries. The boat insurance need to be made by the owner. If it has been proven that the crash was due to delivery captains failor, his reliability insurance should jump in.

@MycSailor2 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope you get back in the water with the girls soon!
@jadesluv3 күн бұрын
Ultimately what caused it was that the CAN bus (which allows any electronic module that us attached to the bus) to communicate with other modules on the bus. Electronic messages can be sent and received to other modules if necessary. Once water got into the CANBUS cable it stopped all messaging, maybe connectors were not watertight. So no messages from the throttle module were commanding the engine module to operate. I’m going to guess a connector was not waterproof, taking on water from a shaft seal leaking as the start of the problem. As an electronic engineer, I would want to know where the communication error occurred.
@wabbit-3483 күн бұрын
I would want to know my next boat would be a diesel with a mechanical injection pump and no electronics of any kind. Don't mean to be rude but Electrical / Electronic Engineers have ruined modern cars, heavy equipment, atvs and motorcycles. It was inevitable that they trashed boats next.

@davedavids96192 күн бұрын
Not knowing how to anchor is not the problem of the manufacturer. The boat may have had technical problems, but there was no reason to beach the boat. If this captain would have anchored properly nothing would have happened. Problem was that the captain did not know how to anchor and thereby the beaching was imminent.

I'm really glad for your sake that the batteries did not turn out to be an issue (Fire), but this does point out the issue with the electric propulsion. Had the propulsion been a diesel system with bilge pumps in the engine compartments your boat would likely have made port. Every since the first time that you told your viewers of your intention to build this type of boat, I have kept quiet, but i have worried about your choice to myself ever since. No matter where the mounting point for the battery bank, the power supply lines are a weakness in the system ... one simple short to the water ingress, and you have lost all ability to control the vessel. It's one thing to loose the ability to view electronic charts, have lights on the vessel, have climate control, induction cooking, and be able to recharge personal electronics, but it is a considerable issue to lose vessel propulsion! At the very least you should have opted for a hybrid system similar to what Delos 2.0 is planning --- one diesel unit and one electronic unit --- lose the electronic system, you can still get to the next port via diesel. I hope for your sake and the channel that the insurance company and manufacturer do the right thing here. Best of luck on the boat, and the best that can be made of the holiday season all things considered!!!
@pogo11403 күн бұрын
If water gets into the diesel's electronics, it shuts down too.
@robertscholz44863 күн бұрын
Yes it does ... eventually. However, most electronic systems separate the battery bank from the electronic propulsion system for weight distribution -- the longer the distance between the propulsion system and the battery bank, the more points at which the water can come into contact with the battery bank to short it out. A well designed engine compartment will include high capacity bilge pumps as well as a water tight compartment so that the engine will continue to run while even partially submerged allowing the vessel to make port before engine failure. A diesel engine can run completely submerged ion water as long as the fuel supply is not compromised and there is an air supply to support combustion (look up Hummer fording rivers).
@BobFlan2 күн бұрын
I hope you fix this, you are a good guy and make fun videos. I have much empathy for you.. I commented previously about the all electric fully tech wired and controlled motors and their problems. If you look at the Island Spirit release, they specifically say the captain has reported the engines shut down due to communication difficulty. And then he grounded. This is exactly what I warned about in my previous post. 2 things. 1. do not buy this boat, return it if you can. 2. Do not buy a full tech enabled electric system. Not for a boat. When your Tesla has a problem, you just pull over to the side of the rad. When a boat has this problem, you get this, a totaled boat.. This technology is not suitable for boats off shore. Do you really want to be trying to figure out a software problem when engines shutdown and you are headed for the rocks? Do you want to be on hold with the help desk when they say "try turning it on and then off". LOL. Go buy a boat that has diesel engines, and make sure you can mechanically bypass all tech and just run the diesel from a cable throttle. Best of luck

@BobFlan2 күн бұрын
yep, I just posted the same comment. You cant trust skynet to run your boat, use the tech, but always have a bypass to run the diesels with a cable throttle. Can you imagine being on the phone with the tech help desk and them telling you to try turning it on then off as they always do, while you move ever more closely to the rocky shore. LOL.

@BobFlan Even worse, what if that shit happened during an ocean crossing? Never would I get a boat that relies totally on electric. Electric maybe as an option, but there should always be a diesel engine or two as standard go to power.

Yup, with a conservative 5 ft of height of the anchor roller above the water line and I assume a 5-foot height as a minimum depth to float in. That's 10 ft minimum to base scope on, so during a storm they had at very best 5 to 1 scope width 15 m of chain out. Since I'm pretty sure they put out the anchor before they were in minimal floating depth, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to say they put nowhere near the amount of anchor line out that they should have! Plus, in storm conditions much more scope should have been put out and with no propulsion and you're dragging, the the anchor road should have been let out to the maximum on the boat to hopefully stop the dragging! in the Bahamas are usually anchor in 4 ft of water and let out 100 ft of chain just because I can and I like to sleep at night... so your eye rolling assumptions on what caused the beach in is absolutely correct... Good luck, Frank
