I'm 75 and prefer shoveling to noisy machines that break down when you need them most. I shovel to the wood pile, to the car, and make other paths around the cabin. It can be challenging when the snow is heavy and deep, but I pace myself and rest often.

You are a tough fellow. I am 60, sick and tired of shoveling snow, maybe it is due to the fact that I live in Canada. If I could hook up a 100 hp motor to an engine I would gladly use use that rather then snow shoveling. :)
@lpgirl11 күн бұрын
@@acdeldel2201 Umm....I'm not to fellow, I'm a woman who has always enjoyed the sounds of nature over the sounds of machinery. I live in Maine, and can't say I'm disappointed at the small amount of snow that's fallen so far this year. I do pay a plow guy to make a straight run up my 300 foot driveway so I can get out, though. Where in Canada do you live?

@@lpgirl My deepest apologies, I did not pay attention to whom wrote the comment, just the comment, lesson learned, I understand what you are saying but as a aging Hoser, tired of shoveling, glad to hear that you have a plow guy but unfortunately in my case it is shovel on hand. Sigh! :)

If you have five sons shoveling is not too bad ,,but over 60 and one man operation I love my tractor ! In all seasons snow , logging , animal bedding, building projects. Modern context require modern machines . The more primitive you live the less machines is also a way to see the discussion. Each man must make his own choice based on skills and finances,,,awesome filming segments! In the intro . Shalom

You are raising a healthy and cheerful boy. You are not in a hurry anywhere. Even your faces are calmer and more contented than those of city dwellers. Therefore, respect to you. We are happy for you. And we always enjoy watching your videos. It is as if we are immersed in another world. And we live in Paris. There was snow for 1 day. The whole winter was rain or ice and mud. You can never have too many books, we have a wall of them in our living room plus other bookcases in other rooms. On the subject of machinery v manpower I often think about that in relation to kitchen gadgets. I would hate to be without my fridge, freezer, cooker and washing machine but beyond that I know some of the other equipment I own is an indulgence. However as I get older and my arthritis gets worse it does make my life easier and leaves me more time to enjoy reading and crafts.

My favorite Swedish team from me in Canada. We humans evolved to make our lives easier. You live a very hardy and wonderful life, your so called footprint on the environment is miniscule. You are still young but aging, soon your bodies will slow down, do what you need to do and do not feel guilty about it. I don't and our so called leaders certainly do not. Most of us are good people. :) Open all the vents and go for broke, take a chance, there is so much information on the Web, a quick couple of hours will answer all your questions, relate to North America.

Hello Tove, Mathias & Ivar; Canadian here, so no stranger to 3 or more days of snow. I don't think there is an either/or, black or white issue with how to handle snow. You do whatever works for you, your conditions, your health, the size of your property , etc. . I, like you, love to shovel areas that aren't easily accessible by machine, or just because it won't take long to look after. (There is a real beauty in doing this...meditative, I would say.) The larger swaths of trails, and clearing for sheep, driving, etc., would be another thing. I've shovelled snow all my life, and don't mind it, but I am one human against enormous elements...where possible, use what is necessary. This way, you have time to feed your chickens, sheep, feed yourselves, and let's not forget, to enjoy books, music, each other, and all the other simple pleasures of life. You have nothing to prove, do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and most of all, enjoy your life. Love to all of you!

Hi I love so much to see your simple way of living up there in the North and understand the dilemma about machines. I live in a forest in the South of France and we have some machines to upkeep here but I realize also the noise pollution they make as well as their upkeep…it is a fine balance, but yes they do help incredibly when you have a lot of work to do. I am happy to have discovered your channel recently and wish your family good wishes and blessings, enjoy all of that snow, we hardly get any where I live but we are not far from the mountains. Still, blow a little down here if you can, I love that fairytale white landscape ❤️ Love from the South of France Katrina

May I suggest that you try fixing your snowblower in the summer!!! Interesting... me in Québec, Canada, I'm expecting after Sunday to have super freezing temperature (-20C day & -27 C night in Montréal "city" so much colder in the countryside) while your temperature will rise... The polar vortex is playing seesaw between America and Europe!!!!🤪 I suggest that both solutions are good... at adequate moments! When you see that there will be several days of heavy snow and then sun for a while, do the minimum with shovel and the big machine at the end... it is worth only if it does not know heavily afterwards... Have to check the weather media closely for that. Little snow, little shovel big snow big machine... You are so far that you need a big one for "emergencies" but you can minimize the use. I admire your courage and determination as a family! 👌🙏💖 ps Tuva, you are perfectly right!!! easier to see than do 🤪😅

Hello dear 'Nordic' friends in Sweden. It was so good to find you again on your video. The issue of what is best for snow removal is a difficult one....the hand shoveling takes so much physical effort and the tractor with the plow has its issues with only throwing the snow to one side making it necessary to find ways to remove the snow without throwing it where you do not want it! As others have mentioned, maybe you can get help with re-adjusting the plow blade so the snow can be blown to both sides. Just today here in the east coast of the U.S. we had only a little snow with more forecast for next week and extremely low temperatures for this area and more snow to come. When my friend complained about the cold and snow, I told them about your life in Northern Sweden and how you manage to find ways to survive the harsh winters and lots of snow! The snow like the difficult times in life is a challenge that we find ways to meet....we cannot always push the difficulties like snow away without much work, but in the end we get through the snow and these challenges and the coming of spring and easier days is forever on our mind and fills us with hope and we go on. Ivor is growing so rapidly. How wonderful to see him playing with your beautiful dog. You and Tova are a team...supporting each other and finding always a way to meet the challenges of Nordic life off the grid. Thank you for another wonderful video!

Yes, we figured that out after a lot of youtubing, so we tried it, and it seems like there is something more that needs fixing inside of the tractor, we opened an inspection hatch and adjusted some bolts, but that did not help us either, but I could see there was some problems there. I do feel that if the blades in the snowblower were straight then you'd be able to use both sides. I imagine that whoever had it before you modified it to suit their needs. Probably after hitting some rocks too :-) As someone who has injured their back doing tree care, I think it is essential to think about having those tools to make you life a little easier before you really need them. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to shovel snow and chop wood, but I wish I would have brought in some tools to help me with those tasks before I couldn't do either of them. I'm so excited to see you all in the new house! Seeing the scaffolding set up and all of the windows/door sealed shows me how much of a different stage you are from last year. I hope that the universe is kind to you this year and allows many days to see your projects become completed.Lots of love to you all. Seeing your videos has always put a smile on my face.

It’s an interesting question about snow shovelling. It’s a good workout outside and satisfying, but hard work. May be it’s not about this or that but adding more hours/people to the task with a shovel? Convenience does come into it, even for you guys 😂 with other tools and machinery. Hard for people to judge when we don’t live it day-to-day. On the other hand why make life harder when it can be easier and quicker, right?
@moregold13 күн бұрын
Tools are a mixed blessing. They are great when designed properly, working well and fully functional; there is always some upkeep or maintenance required. If there are motors and gears involved, complications tend to arise. My personal preference is to utilize the right tool for the specific job at hand.
