The times that the different aspects of the race were held at really frustrated me. The times were very late for every time zone in the US. Their whole justification for adding another US race was to get more US interest, but as an American who already loves f1 - even I was not staying up or waking up at 3am for qualifying. I can’t imagine being a casually interested American and realizing that I would have to stay up till 3 or 1 to watch the race. Not only that, but the drivers were all basically delirious with exhaustion. The race was exciting, yes, but I think they need to rework the schedule for the weekend for future events.

I think part of the reason was that they were not allowed to close the roads too early. The fact they made the races practically unwatchable on the east coast was such a stupid idea if you want to get people into the sport. I agree with some of your points. The set up for the race was too disruptive to locals. There is always going to be disruption, but it was too disruptive and went on too long for locals. I feel like the build out just wasn't efficient. Why were grandstands built so far in advance, and the film on the bridges definitely didnt need to be put up weeks before. The fact that it was able to be redone days before as people peeled it off shows a couple of days before was enough. It was unnecessarily inconveniencing tourists who werent there for the race weekend. I will say one thing that annoyed me is people getting annoyed that they wouldnt be able to see the race for free and f1 were putting up screens etc. I mean, of course you cant watch it for free. Otherwise, why would people buy tickets. Not to mention the health and saftey of it, if you have free viewing spots how do you do crowd control there, you have no say how many people would go there, blocking walkways and staircases etc. It would actually be quite dangerous. Its why walkways over the track are always screened off even at non street circuits, so they remain clear for people to walk on. I feel like F1 isnt used to being in a place where it isnt the sole focus. Plenty of people wanted to go to vegas not for the gp, weeks before the race, but were put off by the distruption. Lessons do need to be learned so it runs more smoothly. If it can be done in monaco like a well oiled machine were there is no space, and a tiny population, im sure it can be done in vegas were there is more space and more manpower. The other thing, f1 (and the hotels for that matter) will have learned is that they got too greedy. The fact that tickets were available on such short notice just shows it was overpriced. It wouldn't shock me if prices are a bit lower next year, or at least, fewer super expensive packages.

I went to the Austin GP (USGP) and I think you definitely need to check it out, the grandstands have great views of a lot of the track. T1 sits WELL above the track, but even T9's grandstands get a great view of 70% of the track. It was a great experience. They did have the same issue as the LV GP, with concerts (Killers and Queen and Tiesto) being included with some tickets...and it wasn't clear which tickets included it. But they never checked your tickets, so even GA got in for free for the concerts 😅 It was definitely worth going to, 1000000% recommend you check it out!

Totally agree Austin is the best US GP hands down. I went to a COTA GP 2017, pricing was reasonable, we could move around the track, we could see action around the track especially the passing at the end of the back straight and we stayed for an absolutely awesome Stevie Wonder concert. It was so memorable. The year before I had a chance to meet Nikki Lauda at the Allen Boot store. Love Austin!

...you could do a bit of F1 content during the season, as a treat! :D It'd be fun hearing your thoughts on the goings on in F1 especially given the thing you've said about how "Watching DTS is like seeing the movie and thinking it's great, but then watching F1 is like reading the book and realizing the movie wasn't all that." I will say I think Max more so than winning changing his mind on Vegas (he won all those Sprint races and still craps on them) he enjoyed the racing that he got involved in. I do feel like between the rest of the days and Saturday someone pulled Max aside and went, "Listen you better say something *positive* if you win." And Coulthard at the weird Bellagio post-race interview really seemed to dig with that one question like, "Say something nice, Max, say something nice...!" What I will say is that Las Vegas just based on 1 race I think it would make a perfect end-of-season race. Because it FELT like the season ended there with everything that went on and then Abu Dhabi uhh the previous weekend? That felt like a weird epilogue (the purpose of which was mainly for Ferrari to crush Leclercs hopes and dreams a tiny bit more, god Charles you give the team all of yourself and they don't even let you do donuts in celebration? Tragedy.).

So many people said that the race would be boring because they thought the track wasnt good enough. It was by far the most entertaining race of the year and people are still complaining about it. It will be embraced in a few years. Most of the hostility is because of the fact that it's in America.

I went to the Las Vegas GP... had tickets in the main Heineken grandstands (PG1), right at the finish line. So I was there all 4 days. Honestly still pretty mad about how Thursday was handled.... no one had any clue what was going on (the employees I talked to found out that FP2 had been moved to 2 am via Twitter lol), and then yeah... my dad and I were in line for the simulator in the fan zone when I got the notification at 1:28 am that the fan zone was closing at 1:30... It was so chaotic; none of the staff had any idea what was going on. The people running the simulator were like, "well we're running this until 2, so stay in line" and then some security guy ran up to them and they had to be like, "oh I guess we have to close now." Also -- the organization of getting there was so chaotic... I specifically booked my hotel so that we could walk to the grandstands entrance, and basically there was no actual walking path... we had to walk on a small sidewalk past a construction zone to get to the (again, MAIN) grandstands. There were no staff to direct you to how to get there, and none of the security staff had any clue. That first day, we went down so many paths where security staff would turn us around and tell us to go another way, but they actually had no clue on how to get there at all.... they were all like, "well you could try going down that road and turning left". Everyone was confused. One of the security guys that turned us around said that the week before, they had this whole plan of having people directing attendees, but they all of a sudden just scrapped the plan a week before the race. He had no idea why. It was honestly so chaotic, and was pretty disappointing, especially considering how much money I had spent on the tickets. Anyway, I'm really glad to have seen F1 in person (THAT was really cool) but I don't think I would go to the Las Vegas GP again.

F1 is really cool, but I feel like it’s totally a rich guy sport. And rich guys don’t listen to the poor locals because they cannot understand why they don’t see it as a positive for making money in the area. I could be way off, but I think that’s where the hostility towards the locals comes from.

If you want to go to the F1 race with the absolute biggest view of the actual racing action, nothing beats Red Bull rang. Given the small size of the track, its shape and the dramatic elevation changes from most seats you can see 50% or more of the entire track. I know because I have been. There are some pretty good views from certain grandstands in circuit of the Americas like the top of grandstand 12 and 15 and Hnis and One but not even they compared to most of the seats in the red Bull ring

My best friend's dad works for the company that welded down the actual manhole covers (in a different state) and the actual bigger manholes were tested very rigorously and welded with actual metal, I can't say for sure about the smaller drain covers though. Definitely was a fun topic over a beer with their dad though because we had talked about that before the accident in the pre-trials and he was telling me about all the tests that they had done on the track 🤭

You'll probably find that the effect on local traffic is much less the second year, as most construction work is one-time and setting up the track (borders, lights) usually takes way less time the second year, when experience has been gained. Also the setting of the price point of tickets and accomodation will probably be a lot more reasonable. They tried to set it too high this time and had to reduce later to sell enough, that leaves disgruntled early buyers. I expect next years price to be half of what it started out this time.

Your videos are always wonderful, but when you are truly engaged and excited about a topic…the video’s could be about grass growing and we would still be captivated. Your super power is enticing others to become curious about something they’ve never even heard of before. (You also have the super powers to be able to call it like you see it and find everything that could be changed to make an event better). Love it!

And i guess also time of the year and temperature difference is a big issue. I understand Vegas sells at night, but my changes would be to experiment next year doiing maybe a 6 or 7 pm race.

To be clear, the problem wasn't a manhole cover, it was a cover for a water main value. Those are much smaller in size, and by appearances, it should have been held in place by a bolt on the cover since it cannot rely on its own weight to prevent it from being displaced by normal traffic (let alone the ground effects suction from F1 cars). It's not known if the securing center bolt failed or wasn't properly checked beforehand to see if it was secured. You can be assured that the actual manhole covers were welded in place. This is SOP for any street circuit, be it F1, Indycar, or other top tier racing. They didn't simply "forget" to do all of the welding on the larger covers.

@@SeraidenAF I don't doubt your experience, but the FIA isn't going to just take the word of a local organization that everything's AOK. They would have had a team there inspecting things in the lead-up to the event to make sure the track meets their standards. They've held events around the globe in places like Mexico, Brazil, Russia and the Middle East. I'm sure the FIA has seen more than its fair share of attempted corner-cutting.

Halfway through the video and I’m a Vegas local. I’ve been a bartender for casinos and my parents have been/are casino bartenders. 1. The workers are unionized and would absolutely get OT if they stayed late 2. They all probably wanted to stay late for the money 3. Just before F1 came, they threatened a strike for better conditions and got some of the best contract terms in decades to prevent the strike So, I’m glad you are concerned about the workers but they would have been fine working until 5am. Hell, most of them work doubles or triples most of the time anyway. Also, all Vegas bartenders, servers, etc, make 8.25 an hour minimum but most make more. Now, they aren’t like wealthy but being a bartender in las Vegas can be a good job. I actually got out of the industry to use my degree and make less now.
