Love seeing the whole family involved! I don't know if you remember or not, but several years ago you and I had a conversation about those digging forks when Hoss was just starting to carry them. I told you my brother and I could break dang near anything, and you told me "go ahead and order one, you won't break this one!" You were right! One of the single most well constructed tools I've used! I've got a plan for tarps and I'll let you know how it goes. If I can come up with some random lengths of fairly large plastic pipe, like at least 4' long, probably 6' will be better, and 6" diameter, I'm going to try folding in to the center, from the edges, probably twice for most tarps, putting the pipe down on one end and rolling it up. That way, when time to roll it back out, I should be able to take it back to one end of the plot, center myself, roll it out and sandbag it. I'm wrestling those things alone most of the time and I think this will help. I can tag them as to where they go (my plots aren't standardized like yours) and take off! If I can manage to get some help at "roll up/out time" I can run a piece of rebar, pipe, heavy dowel, or whatever, through the pipe and each of us can grab an end to carry it.
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm 2 жыл бұрын
I do remember that! Glad the fork is still strong and doing well. I'm interested to hear how this tarp development goes. The 30x35 ones I use are about as big as I like to handle by myself. It still takes two people though to fold it up neatly -- otherwise it ends up looking like I folded a fitted sheet. lol

@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm 2 жыл бұрын
I think there are benefits and drawbacks to any system, including no-till. The plants in the no-till plot do seem to have a stronger root system and are more disease-tolerant. But transplanting into straight compost presents challenges because the soil drains so well. You have to water heavily just to keep the transplants growing until they can establish roots in the new soil.

@LazyDogFarm

Not sure. If you leave them outside too long after harvesting, they will get spongy. But ours usually stay crisp for several hours until we can wash, dry, and put them in bags.

That is a beautiful harvest. I would love to be your neighbor and buy from your produce stand 😊. Then I need to find someone who likes to cook also haha. I could probably suffer a little and cook such beautiful veggies. I'm going to give a small raised bed garden a go this year. We are going to have lows around the mid 30s the next 3 nights then a low of 28 Friday. That's my zone 8A weather. No warm weather veggies.. tomatoes etc planting until Good Friday in my area. I wish those guys in West Texas would quit firing up the atmosphere. Ya'll Stay Safe and have a Blessed Day.

I've often wondered about finding someone who really loved preserving veggies. I would grow them and they would preserve them and we'd split the bounty. Haven't found that yet, but I'm still looking.

Travis, do you spray anything on your collards for pest control? I find the stink bugs and a few types of moths like them but I haven’t sprayed all winter.

I think I sprayed them with Azera one time, but that was it. That stuff works really well.
