Love seeing the whole family involved! I don't know if you remember or not, but several years ago you and I had a conversation about those digging forks when Hoss was just starting to carry them. I told you my brother and I could break dang near anything, and you told me "go ahead and order one, you won't break this one!" You were right! One of the single most well constructed tools I've used! I've got a plan for tarps and I'll let you know how it goes. If I can come up with some random lengths of fairly large plastic pipe, like at least 4' long, probably 6' will be better, and 6" diameter, I'm going to try folding in to the center, from the edges, probably twice for most tarps, putting the pipe down on one end and rolling it up. That way, when time to roll it back out, I should be able to take it back to one end of the plot, center myself, roll it out and sandbag it. I'm wrestling those things alone most of the time and I think this will help. I can tag them as to where they go (my plots aren't standardized like yours) and take off! If I can manage to get some help at "roll up/out time" I can run a piece of rebar, pipe, heavy dowel, or whatever, through the pipe and each of us can grab an end to carry it.
@LazyDogFarm2 жыл бұрын
I do remember that! Glad the fork is still strong and doing well. I'm interested to hear how this tarp development goes. The 30x35 ones I use are about as big as I like to handle by myself. It still takes two people though to fold it up neatly -- otherwise it ends up looking like I folded a fitted sheet. lol

It’s time, it’s carrot time! Those boys make me laugh. Have your opinions on no till changed Travis? I remember a while back you weren’t a no till fan.
@LazyDogFarm2 жыл бұрын
I think there are benefits and drawbacks to any system, including no-till. The plants in the no-till plot do seem to have a stronger root system and are more disease-tolerant. But transplanting into straight compost presents challenges because the soil drains so well. You have to water heavily just to keep the transplants growing until they can establish roots in the new soil.

Yessir, the Farmer's Market looked to be a success from start to finish. I could have dropped some cash there today. The Miami and Yellowstone carrots appear to both be in the Bugs Bunny family. Those parsnips are as pretty as I've ever seen. Any bigger and they'll tend to be woody. Very nice to see Abram "selling" the features and benefits of the Lazy Dog line of fine garden produce.

Thanks Travis and Family. The no-till plot does indeed seem to be doing some magic underground with those healthy roots. Wonder if that would make the plants more drought tolerant also? Cheers, Chuck in Jensen Beach, Florida.

Not sure. If you leave them outside too long after harvesting, they will get spongy. But ours usually stay crisp for several hours until we can wash, dry, and put them in bags.
