We Had A Chimney Fire! 😨

Well, we had a chimney fire and this is what happened. Happy Homesteading!

First I would remove the chimney cap have used would heat for most of my life had a few fires over the years . That cap spreads hot embers on to the roof . Let it go straight up most will cool and go out before they come down on the roof .

Glad you guys caught it and was able to put it out! I’m in the process of installing the same stove. My main heat source is a Hardy outdoor wood stove. It’s been a blessing for 23 years. I wanted to add the bun baker stove incase we lost power or just want to enjoy a nice fire. Really enjoy your videos, there so peaceful. Keep up the good work. Oh has the fire caused you guys to rethink your bunbaker stove?

Thank you for watching! No, we love our stove! We just should have really understood that the bottom needs to be cleaned regularly. If anything, sometimes I wish we had the larger version; it’s been so dang cold lately!

I don’t know. I saw a video of a young man who lived in Northern Canada and had the small stove for 3-4 years and loved it. They apparently either moved to a bigger house or built one and decided to sell the little stove for the big one. One night his glass door exploded and he swapped the oven door and replaced his stove door for the oven door and then it apparently busted out while a fire was in it. I think you have the right stove. Stay warm!

So glad this had a happy ending! My husband and boys just cleaned our chimney. We almost had a chimney fire once... It's scary!

His stomach was all scraped up from the roof!! We had a good laugh a few days later when I could smile again 😂😅

Just had one today... so scary. ended up on the roof with a hose, an expired extinguisher, wind was gusting 30mph (feeding the fire) what a nightmare. no permeant damage thank god.

Fun Fact: "modern" stoves cannot choke out a fire by sealing air intake. EPA requirements can only be met if the burn is always oxygen rich, so newer stoves are designed with air bleeds, so the intake(s) CANNOT be sealed off to snuff the fire. Outrageous but true. GOV at its ...usual.

@@axesandaprons I wanted to build my own wood stove. I'm an engineer and know ins & outs of thermal reactors. I designed mine like a sealed unit. The steel of the stove and flue were contiguous. The door was a flange seal that could be sealed with bolts and a speed wrench. Zero air in. Zero leaks in the flue pipe, all the way to the top. I tested it. Kills the fire dead, but it does pollute during cool down. Then I bought a Jotul 602. Great little "legal" stove, but "car with no brakes". How many are like that, now? ALLUVUM.
