Oh my god, it's so tiny! 😭 I think the cub became so docile after the rescue because it was exhausted and it was warmed and nobody hurt it, so it thought: Ok, I'm being taken care of. At that age, they probably welcome all kinds of mothering actions even if they don't come from a vixen.
@animaanimus80112 жыл бұрын
It was certainly exhausted. Although I would posit it went into “freeze” of “fight-flight-fawn-freeze.” I’m online challenging your suggestion because that thinking can be dangerous if readers apply the same assumption to other found or “rescued” baby animals. Many believe the baby bunny they find in their yard is “friendly” or enjoying being “mothered” by people when in reality it’s just terrified and frozen in fear.
@johannageisel53902 жыл бұрын
@@animaanimus8011 Yes, that's true. Leave baby animals alone if they aren't in immediate danger! First research what you're supposed to do before you do anything.
@OnlyGrafting Жыл бұрын
@@johannageisel5390 we know that humans in their early development prefer the mother over the father as her voice is heard during the time in the womb. So a mother figure is always more comforting. Wild animals won't ever truly see any other figure as a mother, however, if it's under a few months old it can and will become friendly with people if it's been raised around them. Don't coddle wild animals unless they initiate for affection though. If you're warming them up, cleaning them off or feeding them always opt for methods to allow them to remain at a comfortable distance with minimal interaction. Wild animals can be happy to get affection and attention from people, but never impose it on them because yeah they'll likely just remain terrified. Give them space, time and keep their wellbeing at the forefront of your efforts and let the animal choose whether it vanishes into the wild or remains close afterwards.

beautiful foxy, we had to bring a fox cub to a rescue a few months ago, my daughter found him in the middle of busy road and mom was nowhere to be found, we believe she was killed by a car, the baby we kept warm and fed until the nearest rescue opened in the morning. We don't have many rescues like this in Pennsylvania, but were thankful we were able to give Foxy-Foo a chance at being what he was meant to be! The good news is that they were looking for another fox cub since they already had one, and now they could be raised together!
