We diligently speak the exact opposite of this. It is my firm belief kids sitting indoors are growing up extremely unhealthy, mentally and physically. Woefully unprepared for the world they will enter at adulthood. It may be, you can raise your kids safe or you can raise them strong, but perhaps not both.

@RogerCharlamange2 жыл бұрын
That's not weird at all, humans are hardwired to deal with stress and feel better afterwards, it's how building physical muscle works, but also mental resilience. Many MANY people find confronting fears in safe ways helps them rationalize and understand the fear in a more logical and less emotional way, which in turn helps you say "Yeah this is scary, but thas okay"

Anyone else have a hard time watching the tight passages and get claustrophobic? I'm rather new to caving - been to Lava Beds National Monument on two trips, 4 days total time and enjoyed the "wild caves" but nothing this tight other than a few spots here and there for a short part. Back to the claustrophobia - I have had to stop watching 5 different times at various tight spots and do something else for a bit, then come back and push myself to watch a bit more. I know as I've caved more and gained more experience, that has gone away some, and I can understand how one can figure out to move and fit. Hah, even watching this video, my "tolerance" has built a bit more and more and no pauses after the rock removal. Can't wait to go on a trip with a local grotto. Thanks for sharing such cool lava tube footage!

That kid is a "beast" on successfully negotiating those squeeze spots. Him being under 5' in height and maybe breaking 100lbs sopping wet with the build of a taunt whip cord (absolutely no disrespect for his sized or build) added to the fact his level of maturity exhibited throughout every video he partakes in is astounding. Having caved myself off & on for years (wet & dry caves,various types of abandoned mines & extensive underground urban exploring) I find it exhilarating to discover places & behold sights that relatively few humans on Earth will ever have the pleasure of knowing of,let alone seeing in person. That is the fourth video of yours that i finished watching, counting the first one that was recommended yesterday. I love all your experiences so far, you have a wholesome family, it is also very lovely to find your father down in the comments in the pinned comment. This caving was so much fun and adventurous! All the more power to you and your family!

I always wondered why experienced mapers/cavers don’t mark the entrance of “sketchy” rooms/holes to warn the next visitor?
@CalvinHikes3 жыл бұрын
It's a good question and an interesting thing to wonder about. Because there is no next visitor. What we mark, is marked in our description of the cave as well as the maps made. This is essentially insider information as the general public does not go in caves... and if they do go in caves they don't go in ones like this!

My first thought about this was years ago when I heard about the Nutty Putty incident. I could be wrong but it seems like from what I heard the caver who died took a "wrong turn", (not where he thought he was going), into an area where there had been trouble before. And I wondered why that wasn't blocked or warnings posted since it was a pretty popular cave.

Just stumbled across you guys' videos and I've always wanted to know.. does panic ever set in when you reach the end of a cave and realise you have to go through the same tight squeezes and awkward positions to get yourself out? I guess my question is, is it harder for you to go through the cave, or is the hardest part climbing your way out? Love the young blokes commitment and over all confidence in you and himself. Great team
@CalvinHikes2 жыл бұрын
Panic is always knocking at the door. There is no special tool against it except remaining calm and moving slow. And you do not have a choice you will either overcome panic, or you are going to have a very bad time.
