Awesome how u are careful in these caves to preserve them the best u can 👍
@CalvinHikes
@CalvinHikes 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. In these ones with a lot of formations... We have to be super careful. It is not even really loved within the caving community that we show videos of them. So we have to take extra care not to show locations or anything.
@Pihan-
@Pihan- 2 жыл бұрын
@@CalvinHikes I know you wouldn't want people going to the locations and defiling the formations but are there really anti-spelunkers going around just to destroy the fun for other people? Me being someone who doesn't cave wouldn't waste my time going to a cave to destroy structures, but I don't know.
@CalvinHikes
@CalvinHikes 2 жыл бұрын
@@Pihan- No there aren't any people looking to destroy caves. And there aren't anyone who's going to come out to these caves ever. Our care of this cave location is a courtesy to the people who are stewards over the caves of this area. I think they are overjudging people's zealousy to find caves like this and go in them. But it's not always our call. The caving community works together to share information and so we have to be respectful of what other groups want also. With highly sensitive caves like this it doesn't take much. Even good cavers with good intentions over time will damage parts of the cave. So it's also about limiting all cavers... even respectful cavers like us. I'm telling you it's a sensitive community!

Same here, I used to get very anxious watching this, now I feel more calm, I also started caving recently, been doing quite simple caves and mines with some crawls and my anxiety levels improve every time I go, tight spaces used to be my number one fear, now it's just mildly uncomfortable for me to do. Nothing seems to get me over my fear of hights though ! Just watching people climb cranes and stuff makes my hands and feet sweat and heart beat rise!

1:26 "No, no. No, I think this is the wrong way." It's quotes like this that make me say no to caving. The thought of going down a narrow path like that is terrifying enough, add in having the lingering thought of going the wrong way is in the back of your mind. It's admirable how calm you guys are even when you don't know which path is the correct one.

Question: Did you put the cartoon filter on the footage of the outside entrance of the cave in order to keep curious amateurs from locating it?
@CalvinHikes
@CalvinHikes 2 жыл бұрын
Technically yes. I don't think anyone will ever find these caves ever in the history of all time. But the people who essentially give us the locations of the caves want us to hide the location. So it's a courtesy to those who share caving information with us so that they will not withhold information from us next time. Caving is a private, sensitive world. The people and the caves.

Do scientists (or who) often traverse places like these to collect information about these types of formations? Also, out of curiosity, what level of caving experience/expertise would you need for this cave? Or how comfortable do you expect the average person would feel going through the entrance? You two make it look so easy but the smallest parts seem large enough for the average unskilled person to do so comfortably. I know it may be more complicated than that.

i recently discovered both of your youtube channels and have been thoroughly enjoying working my way through your content... admittedly caving videos aren't something i would typically seek out as i find them quite stressful and usually feel anxious watching them as i'm sure a lot of people do... however, i'm really enjoying your content, your cave explorations are presented in a way that don't feel claustrophobic and as though their meant to play on those natural fears people have of being entombed... instead their actually quite exciting and informative... and have given me an appreciation for what you do... that being said, i could never do it myself but after watching you guys explore these incredible locations and hearing how passionate you are about them i can certainly understand how someone would be drawn to it...

I read a book a long time ago where a character had to crawl through a cave in order to survive, and the cave was very tight and she barely made it. This video is exactly how I imagined it and it’s as horrifying as I remember. I can see the appeal, in a way. Seeing something no one has ever seen before is paramount to our existence. Still.
