I know I'm late to the party but I just want to let everyone to be reminded that this game's main narrative material is drugs/ "Joy". Therefore it is BRILLIANT that Arthur's point of view is different than Sally's because Arthur is just recently off the hook from Joy while Sally was out for a while. It also explains why Arthur is just starting to remember his memories and why some are missing and it only returns WHEN he got off the hook from joy; and it also supports why and how Arthur's POV is different(because if he can't even be reliable to narrate his past, how can he be trusted for the present?). It's sad how the game got a bad reputation because this got overlooked. Welp here's my side, feel free to share yours.

Good catch. Also, why would Arthur be in the garden district with his nice clothes as portrayed in Sally's story? I doubt it was just something the dev team didn't catch.@@yeetmanthe2nd529

I just always took it as, each character has there own version of things went... like their all kinda unreliable narrators only show us what they thought they saw and heard. But you might be right I honestly never thought that maybe Arthur was little loopy after being off the Joy
@OGMillwood2 ай бұрын
@@rorob6527 @minty111 I actually think you're both right! They're all unreliable narrators, but there's a strong argument that Arthur is the least reliable, given he's literally just come off his Joy. Ollie's a pretty close second, and, ironically, Sally might be the most straight-headed of them all. I love that they did this, though. Fits with the themes of the game perfectly.

I'm miffed because in Arthur's run through, she couldn't tell him about Gwen. She just said it's "complicated" & she had to leave at dawn instead of right away. That could mean a myriad of things. I honestly think Arthur & her could've (and should've) left together. Just... ugh.
@alexisbaker71832 жыл бұрын
Comparing Sally and Arthurs different accounts of that interaction we can assume two things. 1. Arthur heard her and just like with Percy chose self preservation and simply put it out of his mind. He is new to being off joy. 2. Arthur really didn't hear Sally when she said it. Honestly with Sally's point of view he pauses after she says she has a baby so I am inclined do believe the first assumption. Arthur has shown repeatedly that he chooses self preservation over any other option.
@DashingSteel Жыл бұрын
Arthur rationalized his decision to abandon Sally despite her having a baby by mentally putting the blame on her. That's the same thing he did with the train situation. He mentally blamed it on clerical errors and tge government when in fact the government in this instance wasn't the one to blame. Arthur is the main architect of his own unhappiness. Sally on the other hand has been a victim of abuse her entire life. They're both manipulative manipulative different reasons and really wouldn't go well together, it doesn't matter how theoretically compatible they are. Being separate is good for both of them. Arthur needs to go on journey of self-reflection before he can even think about starting a relationship and Sally is quite frankly done being dependant on other people. Out there in the free world she can finally play by her own rules instead of trying to navigate the wants and needs of others. It was difficult for me to realize at first because I also ship it, but after giving it a lot of thought that's where I stand.

@madmanwebster944 жыл бұрын
One thing I really hated about this game is why did they change elements of the main story for certain chapters? Like in Arthur's chapter which if you think about it is the first official part of the game it shows him going to Sally's apartment and her asking him to get her cod liver oil. In this chapter Sally goes to him in a completely different location and it's like a totally different situation. Why change it? Like why not just play Sally's half of the story but keep it in contingent with the actual plot of the game? Know what I mean? I can't be the only one that had an issue with that.

I'm fairly the acts aren't intended to be consistent and reliable - part unreliable narration and memory issues certainly - but your taking control of a character almost seems to.. make them their best/most efficient version. The three acts seem to play more as (slightly) alternate timelines. (TLDR: inconsistency is a feature, not an oversight. Pathologic uses similar, though more intertwined and extreme narrative differences to basically the same effect if you want a better example than me trying to explain using minimal points of overlap) Acts 1 and 2 are the best examples (barring the opening cutscene of Act 3, there's no crossover) - Arthur's completely useless if you're not playing him. He doesn't do anything until prompted and mopes around in a park all day without really seeming to get enough courage and willpower to do what he wants. But playing him, his building that self actualisation is a big part of his story that I doubt he experiences to the same degree if you're not controlling him. To his credit - he's at least confirmed to have done the Peachy Carnehan sidequests in Act 2. But that's another thing - there's overlap in missions. If you're completing goals with Sally, you're actively screwing over that narrative's Arthur because they can't both be doing the same stuff. For Sally, the big difference is her telling Arthur about Gwen and explaining the cod liver oil - actions she clearly always wanted to do, but couldn't build up to when she wasn't the one being played. It's certainly very open to debate, and if there even is a clear canon line of exact events, but the lack of clarity and explanation, for me at least, adds to the charm, but I'll admit that it's not for everybody.
@danischannel2 жыл бұрын
I feel arthur's version of events must be less accurate because he regularly uses and abuses joy while sally was already off the drug for a while before act 2 in order to take care of her baby

The devs purposely made it like that. Since joy makes you forget things both stories could be inaccurate, but since Sally hasn’t been taking joy on the regular unlike Arthur, her story would be more accurate. So to sum it up they have separate memories of what happened
