Caravan Escapades

Күн бұрын

Hello & Welcome back to Caravan Escapades, Well we went down to the caravan storage this weekend to put the bedding etc back in the Caravan (We Vac Pack It) and discovered we had a flat tyre. So this Vlog follows me Jacking the Caravan up and taking the Tyre to get repaired.
The Jack we used is the Kojack System as the Alko would not fit on the Caravan with Quad Movers
www.purpleline...
Thanks to Trademark in Nottingham for the speedy service in repairing the tyre.

Not always straightforward but always an adventure. Please enjoy and follow Caravan Escapades as the vlogs are uploaded.

Hi Paul, Last Time i had a puncture it was on the m5 in heavy traffic and it was a blow out on a Bank Holiday Monday, it was out last Single Axle Van, Traffic was Crazy and I managed to limp of the Motorway to An Asda Car Park where we had to spend the night as , the Recovery Company could not get a replacement Tyre. At least this time I could do it at our leisure. Thanks for watching

Hi James thanks for another great vlog👍🏻 The kojack looks a very handy bit of kit. I wonder if you had two, one either side, if they could be used in conjunction with the corner steadies, to add extra support in the centre of the van and make the caravan more stable on a pitch. Just like the centre hydraulic supports on the E+P self levelling kit🧐
@CaravanEscapades101
@CaravanEscapades101 Жыл бұрын
Hi Emyr thanks for watching, the Kit actually comes with 2 Receptacles for mounting to both sides of the Chassis, but only only one jack. I guess in principle if you had a second jack it would work, I wonder if it would be as firm as the E&P system, Thanks for watching and commenting. James

@@CaravanEscapades101 Hi James that's interesting to know that it comes with 2 receptacles for either side of the chassis. I wonder if it would as firm as the E&P system. It would be great if Purple Line Uk @PurpleLine_ltd @PurpleLine would send you another Kojack to try it out, and then you could feedback to us. As this would definitely be a more costs effective method for alot of people.

@@emyrbrown Hi Emyr, I don't know to be honest, I guess you would need to make sur you raised both jacks to get the caravan level, so there would still be a need for manual levelling where the E&P will do it automatically, also, I need to check out but don't E7P change the steadies when they fit a system as well. Lol, I did but the Kojack, but if Purple Line are watching I am happy to carry out honest reviews on anything they want to send. 😁. Thanks again for watching and happy Camping

I had a puncture a little while ago. I just got Halfords (tires on the drive?) to replace it. It was £60 but saved me taking it off, going to kwitfit and putting it back on again.. You need E&P James 😉All that jacking up malarky. Getting mine fitted Wednesday.

Would it have been better to raise all corner steadies? With the nearside legs down when you drop the caravan down off the jack (as fast as you did) it could cause stresses to the caravan base especially if you have suspension fitted.
@CaravanEscapades101
@CaravanEscapades101 4 ай бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching and commenting and sharing a good bit of advice, yes as an additional precaution you could raise all the steadies. I wasn’t overly concerned as it’s a twin axel and the lowering and weight of the caravan is supported by the remaining wheel and the caravan would not go lower than its last position. It is an option well worth considering though. Thanks again for watching and happy camping. James.

Hi James, great video, does look a lot of trouble using that jack, have you thought about getting a lock and level? I have one for putting the twin alko wheel locks on, great bit of kit and looks a lot safer than the jack. Cheers Rich

Hi Richard, thanks for commenting and watching. It wasn't to bad to be fair. I do have a lock and level and its great bit of kit. I guess that I didn't us it in this instance was because I was in the storage compound, I didn't have the hard rubber mat with me to put under the lock and level to protect it from the rough stones. Hi James to save struggling aligning the wheel you need a wheel aligning tool which is just a threaded bar you screw into the hub allowing you just to slide the wheel over it, no more lifting and balancing while trying to find the bolt holes. The thread you need for the caravan is m12 1.5mm pitch these are easily found on most online shopping venues for less than £10 and really do make life easier, if your car has a spare wheel I think it should have one of that size already but they’re worth looking at.

@@CaravanEscapades101 I didn’t realise Mercedes had gone to studs the one I had was on bolts but that’s a few years ago, fortunately the Lexus we had and now the Jaguar are on studs but I still got myself the alignment tool as the years are advancing and with a new shoulder joint I can no longer lift and balance like I once could.

Hi James you made the jack look difficult to use ,all you needed to do is twist the orange bit at the top to line it up. Also we carry a small block of wood we would have stood the jack on.

Hi James, new subscriber here. Have you done a vlog on fitting the Kojak lifting kit to your van. I, like you, have a twin axle with double motor movers and the dealer removed the under van spare wheel carriage as Alko system can’t be used. I did purchase a small trolley jack but it is a bit heavy and cumbersome.

Hi Philip, first of all, welcome and thank you for your subscription. I haven't done a Vlog on fitting the Kojac, but if you go over to caravantastic vlogs he put one out in the last couple of weeks following him fitting it. Hope that helps. James

Agree, I had a bad one on the Side of the M5 once and had to tow the caravan of the Motorway on to the slip road, for safety and it shredded the tyre. Its probably worth us all doing a bit of a practice Tyre Change, so we know where all the kit is and how to use it safely, When we had the problem on the M5, it was in roadworks and very heavy Traffic, When I did get on the Slip Road, Called May day and they sent a local agent out who could not get a replacement Tyre for us till the next day, Our Spare Had Been stolen from under the Caravan.

Hi John, Thanks for watching and commenting, I guess one advantage of having the Twin Axle is if only one tyre gets flat, at least the other will hold the caravan up enough to get the Jack in. If I am unlucky enough to have 2 flats, I will have to call recovery anyway lol as we only carry one spare. Happy Camping James

Hi thanks for Watchi lng and commenting. I glad the vlog helped. The pump I use is a Ryobi one. It has both high pressure and low pressure. So you can do tyres a nd inflatable things. I keep it in the caravan along with a Ryobi drill for doing the stedies, it uses the same battery. Happy Camping James

IMO If you loosen the wheel nuts each time before you tighten them again, then you have to stop every 30 miles along your journey. Best practice is to only loosen when you have to.

Hi James good job the tyre went down at the yard. Thought at first it might have been your tyre pal because they slightly weep. I remove my tyre pal when not using the caravan for a bit. And change the battery’s once a year. Good idea to get a tyre plug set for emergency. I was stuck for 4 days in France last year because BMW couldn’t find me a tyre. Something you never think will happen is a puncture. Just wondering where you got your protection socket from? 👍

Great Vlog. Good to hear your advice on loosing the studs before checking the Torque. Weve got almost the same twin axle van with twin movers and to date had 2 punctures, both on the road side. On the first one had to scrabble around with a bottle jack to replace the wheel. Not ideal but managed OK. The next puncture was after we had the UP-SPECK EASY JACK FITTED which makes it a doddle to change a wheel, fit twin Alkos + laterally level the van. Had this set-up fitted nearly 2 years ago and its been faultless. Heres a link to one of their KZbin demos but thier new website is under construction????? kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX6bdWmqfJ2osLM
