Anytime I’ve ever cracked a flywheel, it’s been around the bolt in the center. That bolt to crankshaft, and cracked around the center of it

Right... he needs to check the center of thr flex plate.

Hopefully you found the issue but I'll chime in. Check the starter bendix to make sure it is retracting fully. I had one jumping back and forth hitting the flex plate making a similar noise.

Unbolt the torque converter from the transmission-then push the Torque converter back away from the engine- should only have 1/8 gap- then start the engine- no noise- engine fine. Pressure gauge on the transmission should give you an idea of the pump condition. Flex plate- torque converter or the trans pump are the only other possible noise makers.

That's just the starter when it disengage from the flex plate. That ting sound. I wouldn't worry about it.

Make sure the transmission don't have a crack and Plus if the flywheel is cracked the hotter it gets the more noise it will make. That was the problem I was having

Take the three bolts out of the flywheel to torque converter slide the torque converter back a little shine your flashlight up between there and ck around the crankshaft for cracks if you see any signs of rust coming from around the bolts then you may have a cracked flywheel, good thing is if its cracked you don't have to pull the transmission most Chev will let you get the flywheel out without pulling the transmission, you'll need a long boxend wrench

Got a question is the oil pump above the oil pan

Have to unbolt converter, slide it back on input shaft, and get you a small mirror and maybe try and get it in there and see if you can notice a hair line crack around crankshaft bolt area

Be sure to use loctite on those bolts. Hey awesome did you build a 383 for this thing now? how did the electronic balancing go? hey did you ever get the port and bowl work done around the valves and seats? if you did i am going to believe you have about 500 ft lbs of torque from a small block 383 for sure :o) Well i would probably step up to an XR282HR10 or at least the XR276HR10 both would run power brakes in a 383 stroker. Well i think the XR288HR10 would be great in a camaro it would be iffy on power brakes you know but i run an extreme mechanized leverage and pump my manual dual master cylinder brakes with a very long brake pedal and modified location at very top of dash in a custom foot box. i could run any larger camshaft, although i like to keep things sensible you know may step up to an XR300HR10 in the future with conical springs or at least beehive to change the frequency of resonance to enhance valve action and maintain stability.
