Love the music! Definitely agree with 2 engines as good. I've got a poling platform for when I finally give the Ficht Evinrude the heave-ho maybe work with a torquedo for stern thrust down the road, maybe a Minn Kota to the stern. The competition is really ferocious in this segment right now and Yamaha is now making a massive 26 or 28 footer now I think. Lots to keep an eye out for in this segment as you're out on the water so should make for great postings coming up!

The lake we are on most of the time can be pretty bad, especially at the beginning of the season with a lot of little drift wood scraps and these things that look like black walnuts that like to wedge between the impeller tips and the wear ring. So far I've been able to clear it every time through the clean outs. The first time we had our brand new 240 out, the lake was terrible with all the debris. I had to clear those walnut looking things 6 times in one outing. So far never had to leave the water to do it though.

Had weeds in my scarab luckily it was only one motor but I put it in reverse got the RPMs as high as I could get them and then I shut the boat off as it drifted backwards everything just came flowing out from the water pressure that was going in reverse into the Jet nozzle seems to work well for weeds thanks to the drive shaft sleeve which does not spin .but I don’t think it would’ve worked for that stick . @@jetboatjohn8171 it's super easy to take the pump off. Never take the grate off. Take the pump off. The grate needs to be resealed if taken off. A 10mm 11mm and a hex socket and needle nose is all you need. Off and back on again in less than an hour. If you ever get engine sputtering and hesitation check for water in the intercoolers. Just a piece of very useful knowledge I wish I had 2 years ago. Went through O2 sensors, cail packs, plugs, catalytic converter. Just to find out 2 years later it was a leaky intercooler. Relaced it this year and back to full power. Hopefully you never need to do this but just keep in the back of your mind. Is a common issue with our boats. Easy to check. Loosen the bigger hoses going into the intercooler and dump it. If water comes out its junk. Just some info I wish I knew a long time ago. Hit me up anytime if you need to talk to the beat BRP mechanic in the world. She properly diagnosed my boat over the phone when 3 authorized dealerships could not do it in person.

@jetboatjohn8171

RB 123 I can definitely do that! Some people do power on. I don’t for couple reasons. it’s dangerous if someone is standing there and not paying attention to where there hand is. And you kick up a lot of dirt and sandblast your impeller and wear rings. Some ramps will write you a ticket also because it removes dirt from under the end of the ramp. Haven’t seen that out here but I’ve heard about it in other states.

Nice videos. I was sure there was going to be a comment about running fast on one engine, but since there isn't yet here goes. I think/thought that at least Yamaha warns against anything but a slow idle on one engine to prevent water being forced into the dead engine's cylinders. Is there no such warning for the Scarab? Maybe I am wrong about the Yamahas, but I know I read you should tow a Waverunner backwards to prevent the water intrusion. I guess I am "that guy" this time around.

Yes, you need clamps in two locations on this boat, so carry four clamps with you as a check list. The illustration in your manual is hard to see, but requires two clamps if proceeding past 15mph. I also suggest a coat hanger or a home made tool to clean out sticks. Been there unfortunately. Please don't take the grates off the two leading stern position bolts are hard to get to and will spin on the nut causing them to NOT fully tighten down.. Keep up the videos like how people help other jet boaters out there. Hopefully I will be posting some in deep fix it and improvements you can do to your scarab on my channel soon. Cool videos 👍🏻. I got a new Yamaha 212x two years ago. Honestly I looked at the Yamaha, Scarab, and chaparral jets boats when I was looking to buy. To me they were all pretty awesome, and they all had a few ups and downs. The clean out ports are nice, I’ve had ropes sucked up and it took a natter of two mins to get it out. Never have I sucked up wood, and John is probably right, even with the ports you’d probably have to take the boat out for that. John, Question- in my owners manual for the 212x it says if you ever lose an engine or can only operate on one motor; only run the good motet at no faster than 5mph or you can risk getting water up the exhaust of the motor that’s not running. Does it recommend that at all for the Scarab? you were still cruising at 20 so I’m curious
@jetboatjohn8171

DennisTheMenace My manual doesn’t say anything about driving with only one engine just not to tow it above 15mph without clamping a hose. Guess I got lucky. But when you are on plane the Exhaust ports are above the water so I’m not sure how it’s possible to get water back flowing through the exhaust anyway. Now way could you tow boat at 15mph anyway.

2:55 "Stopped that engine cold..." No, it did NOT stop that engine cold!!!! It (piece of wood) prevented one pump from achieving potential. Nothing in the motor or pump incurred damage or failure, the impeller simply cannot process enough water to get on plane with a foreign object in the way. Jet boats are not about Scarab vs. Yamaha, prop vs. jet, single vs. twin - it is about understanding how to use them and pump water. I have a boat with a v8 and a Berkeley - a stick in the impeller and / or slug of seaweed blocking the intake will not prevent me from moving, it just prevents the pump from processing enough water to get on plane. Be thankful that typically these problems can be solved at a beach if you understand how the obstruction got in, and how to get it out.
@jetboatjohn8171
@jetboatjohn8171 4 жыл бұрын
It didn't stop it cold! the first time it happens you don't really know what is wrong. I did a poor job of explaining that! but it made it un useable for me. you get a bad loud vibration, if you continue to use that engine with a wood chunk in the impellor you will do damage to your wear ring. ask me how I know..

Just curious: When something gets stuck near the impeller, does it stop spinning and the engine then shuts down and can/did it damage the fins on the impeller as well? I've never seen one so I am assuming it has some sort of fins on it. Thanks for updates.
@jetboatjohn8171
@jetboatjohn8171 3 жыл бұрын
Bob A with a wood chip or something it vibrates like crazy. Same thing happens if you get a plastic bag or something wrapped around the shaft, it keeps turning but cavities and looses propulsion. With like a rock it’s just like a blender it will bounce around and chew up the impeller. With a piece of wood stuck in between the impeller and the wear ring. you can still go slow but it will start to make a grove in the plastic wear ring.
@RickyG225
@RickyG225 3 жыл бұрын
@@jetboatjohn8171 So then if you get a bad groove in there, can you simply replace the wear ring ? The pebbles bouncing in the impeller. Can you get a replacement and swap it out, or is it a big job also? I assume, if you are careful, rocks do not get inside too easily that can cause serious damage.
@jetboatjohn8171
@jetboatjohn8171 3 жыл бұрын
Bob A Yes. You can replace a wear ring. It’s made of plastic.they make aluminum ones but just stick with the original ones. The impeller is tight against it. It can take a few scratches and still be fine but as it wears you will get a gap and loose some propulsion. Not a hard thing to fix or an expensive thing to have replaced. Its all part of what they look at if you have it dealer serviced. It’s about $500 if you take rocks to the impeller. But unless you run it up on a rocky beach with your engines running it’s rare and avoidable. I haven’t sucked anything other than wood so far and I run in shallow rivers a lot. Just have to be careful.

Never.....*EVER* take the grates off...It's a two man job to put them back in and reaching from the inside requires.....I won't even bother, just don't do it. For future reference, you're going to suck things in again...it's the reality of jet boating. Go purchase the longest pair of needle pliers you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe's, shave the rubber off on the handles and make the handles longer using 1/2" copper pipe....you then end up with a pair of needle pliers that can grab anything caught between. Another thing to note....the Yamaha ports don't give you complete access. They are great for pulling weeds out etc...but you only have access to one side of the impellers....the YAMAHA impellers don't chew stuff as well as the BRP ROTAX does, trust me on this....both both have advantages and disadvantages but the impeller system on the ROTAX system can handle far more foreign objects than the Yamaha can.

The little water seat is a nice touch, but I don't know how much you would pull it out? and you would have 60 more hp with the Yamaha. The plus's of the scarab are you have 600 available hp, if you can afford it? and the maneuverability of the Scarab is crazy good! I love my Scarab but the lack of dealer support in my area kind of scares me. I've been lucky and haven't had anything happen that that I couldn't fix myself. There’s definitely a reason I bought a Scarab over a Yamaha, at the time I wouldn’t even consider not getting a Scarab. although Yamaha‘s have gotten better as far as how they are laid out. I’ve never bought the Yamaha‘s are more reliable argument. I’ve had several Rotax engines I know a lot of people who have them and I don’t know anyone who’s had any engine problems. But I’m also not gonna tell you to buy a Scarab just because I have one. There is more that has to go into your decisions, like if you have a dealer near you or at least a good mechanic or if you’re able to work on things yourself. But like I said I wouldn’t trade my Scarab for anything right now! E-mail is stevensbudman@roadrunner.com

I just found your channel and enjoying your videos. The 195 is my dream boat. Do you think you could measure your rig for me? My garage is 19.5 feet deep. I think it would just barely fit. I have a 16 foot 1997 Sea Ray Sea Rayder XR 175hp Jet boat last year and having so much fun with but always need to have upgrade goals if you know what I mean. Take a look at my videos.

SHABBY3 LILLIMO Thanks! Gotta have them goals. I’ll measure it next time I go out. A 195 should just fit. If it has a swing-away tongue. 215 is 21&1/2 I had it in a 24ft with room for a small table behind it. I had to switch to a 16ft tall door so I could get the tower in without holding the door all the way open with a broom. Didn’t want to drop the tower every time.

@@jetboatjohn8171 excellent. All 195 and up Scarab trailers have a swing away tung I believe. There is only one dealership here in Minnesota and it's about a five hour drive. It's very rare to find a used one to go measure.

Tony S It’s a good boat. My friend has one. They like it. But they are looking for something bigger and flashy! Got to keep up with the river crowd out here! Lol! We still love the Scarab. But we’ve been lucky that we haven’t had any big problems because we don’t have any dealer support out here anymore. Luckily I found a good boat shop out here but my warranty is pretty much useless. Just something to think about..

Hey you might want to invest in a dive suit so you can clear debris when it gets both engines and you can’t get back. Or pony up for a real jet boat- Yamaha! Is this the same boat you posted all the why I hate my boat videos? Do like your videos.

you risk damaging the second engine running fast on one engine.

No you don't! You only go slower and burn more fuel using one engine! The engine still has a rev limiter and will not over rev!

@@phillittman8543 It has nothing to do with Revs. It has to do with forcing water into the engine at speeds above 5 mph. .

I keep trying to share a link but it gets deleted. I've been thinking of ways to clear debris without having to trailer the boat. This is from Amazon. Do you think this would help in your case? KZbin doesn’t like links because it takes you away from their platform. For sure that could help. Funny how things change. Two times I’ve had to pull my boat out because of wood. I’ve probably had it happen 10 times since then and just learned how to deal with it. First thing is I don’t pull the power back right away just kind a let it eat most of the time it flies right out, and if that doesn’t work, I put it in reverse especially if I’m on the river and just let the Current push it out. Turned out to not be a big problem anymore. same thing with my windshield. It used to move all the time and I had to adjust it and it just stopped doing it. I haven’t had to worry about it in quite a while.🤷🏼‍♂️
