Back down in the Southern Highlands south west of Sydney tonight.
I received a call from the property owner saying we have a bit of a rabbit problem
This place was certainly overrun with them.
It's always very challenging when your'e engaged to control pests on small farms like this. With the highway in the background as well as several horses on the property, rifle and pellet choice was a critical factor. Hence the FX Impact MkIII in 22cal got the gig.
I started out using the HikMicro Alpex 4k day night scope running 25.39gr JSB Knockout slugs @. 880 fps. Very effective but also very loud on impact. Making all the nearby rabbits run back into their warrens.
A couple of hours in I swapped out the Alpek for the HikMicro Panther PQ50L V2.0 thermal scope due to the higher foiliage on the other side of the property. Also changed back to the quieter Cometa 18.13gr pellets at 890fps.
Over 100 rabbits removed from this site in just under 4 hours.
We collected and harvested all the rabbits from tonights shoot, so nothing will go to waste.
I'll do a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks.
Shout out to my offsider for his help collecting and dressing out all the bunnies.

Thanks for watching.

Another good video. You show the strengths and weaknesses of the IR quite effectively. It’s very hard to go past thermal for target acquisition, especially when the foliage is thicker. That’s a bit of a plague of rabbits happening on a small property. No wonder the landowner called you in. It’s surprising that some landowners don’t get tooled up and keep on top of the problem themselves. I suspect not everyone wants to make the financial outlay or is willing to kill the little beggars themselves.

I often drive through Lake Bolac Vic heading from south to north at about 3:00am (I'm a truckie). The amount of rabbits in the town is utterly insane. I kid you not that some mornings there might be a thousand of the kunce, then other times I go through I only see 150. They do a magnificent job keeping the nature strip lawns looking like a bowling green. I often think that someone needs to sort them out.

Rod, mate, another great video, quality vision with both scopes. Yes the change from slugs to pellets appeared to be the right move, the rabbits near the ones shot with a pellet didn’t do the bolt! One question, is this the same property you did a rabbit cull about 8 months ago? From memory it was near a motorway too. Cheers,

Two quick questions. What are you zeroed at? And the meter display in the scope. Have you added that, or is there a way to adjust the font size in the scope?

Zeroed at 40m mate and yes I added the distance in for the video 👌

@@RJMHuntingAustralia I noticed it wasn’t displayed in the thermal. So I was hoping they’d done an update to allow bigger fonts on screen. Bugga.

@@RJMHuntingAustralia What I'd really like to see on any of the IR LRF Scopes is a remote switch for the LRF (similar to the remote tail switch on IR torches)

Ha 😆 hit the wire of fence , Ive done it with 243 one night , fox at 80 meters other side of fence , missed because of it , second shot did not , the shot hit wire dead centre & stretched and broke it , two witnesses to it , we pissed ourselves laughing and took photos of broken wire .
