Also that one needs to sacrifice himslef/herself to 'seal' the devil. Only for the hero has one tiny soul somewhere that needed to be found. Needless to say, in some years to come the devil will rise where the hero and him/her spouse have reincarnated with sealed power. And incompetent heavenly king. In any case, FL doesnt need to look for any love elsewhere, go and marry God Of War before he is sacrificed. Period.

I used to be so excited and into xianxia, wuxia, all the xias, and historical dramas back in the days before the whole idol actors and mass production of ip adaptations became a thing. Nowadays it's so hard to sift through them all to find a gem because it's about quantity and not quality. This one isn't horrible in my opinion of acting and the storyline, so far, is doable. But, at this point, it's boring with no unique aspect with little chemistry (even with supporting cast).

@@hi44098 There are a good amount of groups of peoples that were waiting for a good second season of BTTH, and they rebooted it and made it 300 times worst in every possible aspect, actors music, production and story. I still remember douluo continent, were 2 average/mediocre idols (im loooking at you xiao zhan who can not make the effort of learning how to chop wood with an axe) were cast to serve as bait for fandoms, but producing the most utterly crappy crap that chinese dramaland can produce. People like us who like this wuxia xianxia are doomed, specially if you have atachments to some ips, cause they will get destroyed once they get to live action.

Ive always thought Zhao Lusi had chemistry with EVERY leading man... and then I watched The Last Immortal... there is no fire! I find myself rooting for the ML to end up with thr Peacock lady and for Yin to end up with the Fox or the Death guy.

Zhao Lu Si's acting wasn't the best here. But as usual, I enjoyed her performance a little. the ML was so funny to me. He always looked like he's trying to hold in a sneeze to me. He's so aware that he's acting and he shows that. Even the supporting characters stands and even the ML also sometimes stand like themselves and not the characters.

In my poor understanding of this matter, immortals are different, they achieve "immortality" through "cultivation" and their mission is to a) kill the demons and b) convey martial, medical & cultivation skills to young disciples. As she tempted me, now I am checking out Wu Xin (Elvis Han), which wasn't subbed years ago, but I've seen some scenes on youtube that implied he actually had sex and was in love not with one but with several women. Without heavy consequences😏

So in the world the drama shows, the immortals have feelings though no sex, and the Gods aren't even allowed to have feelings. That is the world they describe in the "Last immortal", and it really makes no sense to live like that. ZLS character even points out some of the rules between the mortals /immortals / demons / gods. But actually the script doesn't really make sense and as Avenuex says it seems more like everybody came to finish the drama and just go home, no matter the discrepancies and issues .

I absolutely loved 🥰 A Journey to Love, I loved the growth of the princess character to a strong woman. I loved the complexity of the male and female leads. I loved the characters/actors with their personalities getting along & the strong brotherhood bonds. Although I was not happy all of them died/sacrificed for the greater good. I also loved the other princess with the braids. The ML was a teacher/mentor to his men & the FL, princess & even the kid from WU. He eventually started learning. The very ending was to rushed to me. We see the kid in the end so that means the leads survived

zhao lusi clearly is an actress who can act but she needs to carefully pick projects to take. she is good in cheerful roles but suits better in darker roles like cheng shaoshang in later part of love like the galaxy. i do have hope for dark role in her next drama the legend of jewelry since i read the web novel but production quality wise, i wont have high hope for youku

I'd imagine Chinese actors, particularly the women, are under very strict injunctions and rules on how they can perform their parts. It would entirely depend on the director and those above him. Operational word: him. So female actors have to suck it up and smile (like Zhao Lusi in that other series where her entire crew watched her screaming in real terror on that horse with ML). (Love Like the Galaxy). Didn't like the male lead, didn't like how they treated Zhao Lusi, and left the series after the horse riding incident. Treating any actor like a "thing" bothers me.

@@Kayenne54 I guess we are both agreeing that a good director matters in an actor's performance. I don't think it's just systematic sexism that's the issue all the time either. I think the characters/ projects you choose matters. Sure, an actor can't control every element of a project, but I've seen ZLS give better performances in mediocre projects before. TRoTaR or DitK are two I think she did well in and one didn't have a lot of money and the other had a veteran ML to guide her through some of those "more adult" scenes. She was great in LLtG, so I know she can to better. ✌🏾

If a drama doesn't impress me, either I drop it after first ep or atleast give it a chance to set up the story in the next few episodes. For a 40 ep drama, its usually 4-5 ep. For this one I watched 8 and decided its better for me to rewatch older dramas, those I like than waste time on this one.

Yeah AJTL was good in the beginning. Considering cdrama land has been very "dry" this year, I had quite a hope for this show, and it turned out a disaster towards the end. What is the ending even? Had I known, I wouldn't bother wasting time watching and enjoying the "good" build-up of the story and got hit with such ending.

I think the loo part may be inspired by few xianxia stories, in which some characters had lived as mortal human for a while and then when they became immortals or even half immortals, they couldn’t lose human’s habits, such as eating or sleeping or bathing. I have never questioned what would happen after an immortal eat human food, so I suppose the loo somehow makes sense. But still, I’m sure the immortals can control their bodies so that they don’t need to go to the toilet, no fun in that.

I followed and watched this drama because of Yuanqi, the role played by Wang Anyu. It's because I'm a fan of Ancient Love Poetry and somewhat excpecting it as a sequel as in the novels.I became aware that the production team tried to make it as an independent drama when it was about to air. But then I got shocked when the names of Yuanqi's parents are changed! Even other significant characters too like the Heavenly Empress! But I still give it a try and watched it but I admit I'm not that excited and slowly watched it and grasped the story in later episodes. I just hope I will able to finished it.Maybe the later episodes will explained the main story. 😊

@@Myaarky yes I agree. Zhao Lusi is choosing scripts that suites her age and phase of career. That's a correct step. She is doing a GenZ or Pearl curtain for more serious content. This drama also has novelty factor in the sense that we usually see only cute dumb female leads in xianxias. In Last Immortal we see that male character is portrayed as cute or silly. I like the fact Zhao Lusi is bringing some change in cdrama.

Unfortunately, ZLS is very much typecast as the baby talk/cutesy roles for A WHILE. Except for maybe LLTG and Who Rules the World, she doesn't seem very believable in roles that require maturity, mostly because of her face and size. It would be very hard for her to play a believable villian or a sexy femme fatale so there's not a lot of roles she can choose from. She went two steps back with Hidden Love. This is coming from someone who has watched a lot of her stuff. I'm not hating, but it's obvious the roles she's being offered suits what's she comfortable with 🤷‍♀️

@@kaypats855 she is 24. SHE still can act in youth dramas, with a tiny voice. Are so many actresses who cant act youth dramas. HL was a hit in Mainland China. Overseas as well. In the end, all her dramas in last 4 years were hits, she's acting for 6 years. Even some ppl scold TLI, it didnt flop. TLI is keeping its audience, every day over 2% .There were several actresses who wanted to try serious roles this year and they flopped badly. But ZLS still have time to play whatever makes her happy

@mihaelacalin78 not it didn't. HL did well internationally and that's mostly because Netflix picked it up midway it's run. Look at Douban and Yunhe viewing charts. It did mid-average. So not a hit. Also, 6 yrs into the industry and at this point I think it's fair to expect something new from her or for her to challenge herself in a new genre. She did GenZ which flopped horrendously. I do wish her the best but she's got to expand her repertoire.

Wonderland of Love was worth it even though I had to fast forward through 30 minutes of Xu Kai crying. Don't get me wrong, Xu Kai can cry on my shoulder any day, but it just was too much.

The last half of that drama was painful. I had to watch in 2x and skip around just to get through it. The main couple become unbearable and their arguments dont make sense. And the villians are so boring compared to start. Its just repetitive and dissapointing for me. When the start was great. The end was enough to ruin it for me.

Having let go of this drama in the first episode, I appreciate your relaxed rant letting me know more details about why I was not drawn in. It's too bad as I'm a Zhao Lusi fan and have enjoyed a number of xenxia dramas like Eternal Love and The Love between Fairy and Devil, but the quality of these two are rarely present in other dramas of this genre.

@@Queens560 it is not really a hate comment it is more like a preference. I do respect people's opinion and what they stand for. I like the actress as an artists but sometimes they just don't choose a good script and production. but this doesn't mean that she is a bad actress. And I don't stand for any specific one because each actress has her charm. What made it weird for me in hidden love is that the age gap wasn't that big but they portrayed it likewise, they brought an 11 years old actress to be a 14 or so. And the chemistry wasn't giving.

I'm probably the lone voice out here enjoying the drama, LOL. It is quite fun and the angst is getting to Yue Hua standards of stupidity/pain for the FL. I'm staying to watching him gouge FL's eyes out pull out her "fairy bone" and accidentally kill her while thinking he was protecting her. Yeah, echoes of Yue Hua. The CGI is very similar to Love and Destiny, which I loved, so I don't have a problem (all that demon black smoke coming out of bad guys' bodies like bad B.O. always make me laugh). It's the first xanxia I see where the leads are actually children to teenage in the script, no thousands year old male pairing with a young fruit or flower, so their journey has been in that mindset. He's ruled by hormones and she's LuSi playing a baby magical waterbeastie, LOL. I'm truly enjoying it. Even the angst now is pulling at my heartstrings, even though I know, like all xanxias, it's just a trial. LuSi is acting the heck out of her role--funny in the beginning, getting angsty and miserable now, and from the trailers, all majestic and distant in the later parts. So I'll sit here alone chasing the drama 🤣

One thing that makes me uncomfortable watching this is the main couple.. I feel like instead of lovers their chemistry is more like siblings.. or maybe it's bcs his character reminds me so much of ZLS's big brother on Hidden Love so it kinda put me off.. but i must say the best part of this drama is ZLS costumes.. all of it is so pretty.. can't wait for Legend of Jewelry to arrive, i hope it won't be as disappointing as this since i really like ZLS & LYN chemistry in The Long Ballad and the story seems interesting..

I love your analysis!🥰 I think The Last Immortal is for light and not very demanding teenagers. I confess that fantasy dramas are NOT my favorite, unless they are like "Ashes of Love" which introduced me to Chinese dramas because I I was MARVELED at the image of that drop that falls on the flower, the poetry, the Celestial Palace, the flaming Phoenix and above all the plot, and the sex appealing and super attractive chemistry between Yang Zi and Deng Lun (radiates on the screen when the couple of actors have a great time and have a lot of fun together). I liked the lighting and the setting in "The rise of the Phoenixes"... I might not be so picky when the plot is worthwhile, or when the actors , whether young or old, they captivate you with their magnificent characterizations. I love dramas from real historical periods, preferably from the Song, Tang, Three Kingdoms or older dynasties... would you be so kind as to recommend some? Thanks Avenue X! The Last Immortal is a family show for sure. The little adorable beast in the first 2 episodes will certainly be a toy for the younger population while the storyline will grab teenagers because of the youthful characters portrayed by Lusi and Wang. It’s definitely not my cup of tea but that’s OK cause I’m searching to find old dramas that may have a mature theme to put on my watch list. I’ve watched both leads in TLI in several dramas and they have been very good. I wish them all the best but I will wait for there next projects to air. This drama was surprisingly good. I agree with your points though. This drama was lazily produced but there are no issues with the cast's acting. They had to work with what was given, but overall, still a good watch. It didn't suck as much as I thought. People should give it a try. It may be to your liking, who knows, like me.

@@1happydew It's an outdated concept from way back in TMOPB; newer xianxia dramas with stronger visual concepts like LBFD have more diversity in the costumes. The moment a xianxia drama appears with overly typical pastel-ish costumes, you know the creative team has not put much thought into building the universe.

i'm zhao lusi's fan. i read the web novel and decided to not expect much for the plot since the original material is pretty much cliche. but since it was handled by the same production team as ancient love poetry and it was claimed that it is high budget drama, i was expecting really good quality in term of production wise. but since the first trailer came out, i knew i shouldnt expect too much. i was totally disappointed and barely watching it for lusi😢 i dont know if i can get through until the end though

they have diff production teams, only YXP in both of them. however, TLI prod team is good, just look at their dramas. This is the first chinese xianxia with less than 8 months of post production.

I actually watched the entirety of this drama, so of course I agree with most of your points. The only one I will disagree with is that I actually LOVED the costuming. Not necessarily all the dangly bits on headpieces, but the headpieces themselves were AMAZING and the full skirts on everyone was exactly what I want in the occasional (not always) drama. It was, for me, the best part. I do wish they had done a bit more with Hong Yi's fashion, simply because as a fox, he should be... foxy versus boxy. They could have made him a lot more sexy and written a character that was far less absolutelycompletelyutterly clueless. There were several points at which I wanted to strangle him by his too-long neck (Li Yun Rui is really handsome, btw, don't get me wrong). But! I will say that as a villain, Hua Shu was surprisingly good, both in acting and in context, and she had the best costuming. As formulaic as it was plot-wise, her character was a power-hungry boss who found the thing that should have straightened her out, but the influences around her threw curves in her path. I actually felt for her, which was something, considering I didn't feel that any of the couples had any chemistry and wanted to send them all out for a lunch so they could bond. Finally, He Kai Lang is stupidly handsome for no good reason, and I need him in a lead role, please and thank you. Thanks for the review! It was definitely more entertaining than the drama!

This is an edit. I had to come back to admit that I am now enjoying "The Last Immortal" and look forward to seeing it. I am now on episode 29. The first episodes were so bad but things improved greatly later on. My biggest fear is that it will have a disappointing ending. I will leave the rest of my original post after this sentence. You are THE QUEEN of crit! No mistake is going to get past your eye. If these production people were smart, they'd run their work past you before they air it. This show is actually a waste of time but I love Zhao Lusi so much that I'm going to sit through any thing shes in ( even if I have to speed through sections of it to avoid the parts that are just too painful to watch.) Her agents made a huge mistake letting her do this piece of garbage. She should fire them and hire you. On the bright side... We get to watch you defending the rest of us out here who are subjected to this artistic abuse. We love you AvenueX !

Her pretending voice is so annoying me. I tried to keep watching till ep 17 and still didn't feel any good thing about this drama.
