I still have like 3 tape measures that I got when I was a teen building houses with my dad. I got one when I was 13 a 10' one when I was 15 a 25' and the third at 17 yup you guessed it 50'. One thing my grandfather and dad tought me was buy contractors ones. I am 57 now 2 are stanleys I have a 4th 25 that is a stanley the saw nicked still works though. Put a little money into a good brand it will last. I remodeled probably 100 houses and built a fare few new ones. I have most of the tools that didn't get lost and the rest are still in good shape. Better to spend a little than buy a few with what is out there now I seen some pretty nice new Stanley's

Ps I would put a couple vertical boards if you have midway to help support if you have the wood. Like in the middle of the metal posts

I low key wanted to see M up on G’s shoulders so laughing so hard but still, seriously, so impressed with the teamwork you show us through all your builds/activities. M, you remind me of me, as a Mum: cool, but still reminding everyone to put their solar glasses back on…and also chatting about board carrying techniques. “High on the hip…hold on.” 😂. Hope G’s ok after the Mario slip. ❤ you both!

Awesome! Have you considered just doing one door, and making it a "Dutch" door. That way it solves what ever configuration you need in a moment, and can be built really sturdy. It also gives that really cute barn stall look.

Gary, Mel, great job getting the new shelter set up. One major suggestion though. Remember, you are in Arkansas and you get both high winds and tornados. As such, I would suggest that you do something to tie the new shelter down and make it as windproof as you can, before you get the metal siding and roof installed. otherwise, great job. Take care until the next time.

Looking really NICE! I hope there is enough scrap wood to wall off the peaks aka David's house. If not, even cutting down a few small 2" diameter trees would make the building look rustic and really cool.

Hi Gary and Mel. My thoughts on your barn build. First your innovative. However if you live in a windy area, I suggest you anchor through corners of your barn with 4x4 posts in the corners.

Do you ever have problems with snakes and the chickens? When I lived in Grapevine, AR I had problems with King snakes hypnotizing my chickens. They would actually just sit there until they died. It was the craziest thing.

If there were a way to do some rainwater catchment you wouldn't have to water the animals at least when it rained. Maybe for the goats you could create a lined channel for the rain to go down into a rock lined basin so they would have water down in the trees too during foraging times.

Glad to see you adding wood on that frame, it will weight it down to help with high winds. It's Thrusday now, it's poured down rain here sense Monday night. We're dealing with flooding now. You should do chicken on one side goats exit opposite side into there own yard. You don't want to put your goat eating off the ground after meat birds. Block a small section for the birds and give rest of your little arm build to the goats. That way every season you get meat birds they have there own pen.

I think I heard a snake, "well what was it saying?" And this is how we did it in the old days before they invented ladders LMAO. That's the very same way I did mine too but I only used one by four as I was covering mine with 6 ml plastic for a greenhouse and I happened to have an old aluminum door I put on for an entrance. God Bless from your Canadian Friend.

Do what my grandparents did, pour melted wax along the bottom of a metal piece as for down in the ground you would like the metal to go. Put the metal in a trench around your shed, and pour rock in the bottom then dirt or sand. It keeps the critters out. They don't like digging in the rocks and the wax protects the metal. My grandparents did this around their chicken coups. Kept the racoons and fox out.

JudithB I learned the hardway that turkeys need Game Bird starter and feed. There is more Manganese in it. The poults developed twisted legs on chick starter, and I had to talk to the Extension office in Kingman and they talked to Phoenix to figure out what the problem was. Good luck with them!! I put my 10 wk chicks in with main flock yesterday and they seem to be doing alright. Trying to get the toms and peppers planted in the garden before rain starts tonight. Arkansas spring!!! LOL!
