We're in a dire situation here in Hong Kong, although the Government says it has past the peak, still more than 200 death a day, mostly old people because the vaccination rate of this age group is very low. People are arguing zero COVID or co-exist with the virus, both approaches have the price to pay. People are blaming the Government for the outbreak of Omicron after 7-8 months of zero. Our situation is awkward because most of us live in high-rise buildings that makes the virus spread rapidly. We have missed the opportunity of compulsory universal testing like that in Shanghai. The Government's tactic is to test the wastewater of the buildings, once virus is found, they do a restriction testing to test all the residents of that building. However, the confirmed case found only serves as a reference of the trend of the pandemic, it is far from the pandemic is under control.

@@susanlamhk death curve trails the new cases curve for a few weeks, so it will stay high for a bit in HK. And if people go out crazy again the curve will rebound. The issue of HK are low vaccination rate in elderly group and lack of planning in isolation and healthcare capacity despite with deep pocket and virtually unlimited resource. It's the first time I think Lam should take responsibility and go, I will be disappointed if she is the next CE. Shanghai's situation doesn't look good. I hope China realizes Omicron is tough to deal with. They will need to figure out a way to transit to endemic with least impact to the society and economy, otherwise they will negate the good works they did in past 2 years. Their 60+ 3-doses rate is still low (40s range?) and that's not enough.

@@susanlamhk I'm not sure if I'm right after all, I'm not an expert or a doctor but I think it's fatal probably because there's something wrong with the immnue system. Blaming anyone else doesn't help slove our own problems. All we can do is to take a good care of ourself and cooperate with the instructions from the experts. And like Teacher Mike said here "Hope for the best but be prepared the worst".

封城就是，你去别的城市去不了，你买菜困难，一些蔬菜食品开始涨价，你无法堂食，城市服务业，第三产业（包括医疗，娱乐，餐饮，住宿，理发，超市等）处于完全瘫痪或者半瘫痪状态，你被强制在家中无法出行，你被强制做核酸检测。你说上海不是封城，封城只是个概念，当你进入上面的状态，实际上就是封城，只是官方极力避免这个词而已，因为它给人的观感太差。上海甚至还为此抓了两个人，只是因为那两个人说上海的疫情严重，反映了官方希望制造和渲染这种言论管制的恐怖氛围，以此封住人们的嘴巴。

I got PCR done today after having a mild fever that comes-and-goes. While it's NEGATIVE, I am still staying in for a week as if I caught it (Daylight Savings is ending this Sunday, so even a clock change is an adjustment). In NZ, if you caught it, you pretty much stay isolated for a week, but you don't have to do keep testing until you are clear, and you don't do the swab test for confirmation. You flatmates/family would only need to check for symptoms, but of course, if they catch it, the 7-days would reset from the day THEY caught it, not you.

@@kevinrich5222 你要知道一点，现实和物理不会因为你的个人意志而改变，你唯一能做到的就是适应它，减少损失。第一，奥秘克绒全国多点爆发意味着以前的防疫手段失效了，尽全力去防也防不住，等于必然防不住，最多是减缓蔓延。第二，中国不可能封锁一辈子，不可能永远闭关锁国，人要生存，经济要发展。不管你 愿不愿意，中国之后都是要开放的，只是时机和条件的问题。如果你关注国内一些知识类KOL最近的观点的话，他们的口风正在发生转变，从“绝不共存，坚决清零”到“动态清零”，再到“不完全否定共存”，这种主旋律引导就代表了中国高层的态度，是一种对现实的妥协，把损失降到最低，而不是凭着个人执念硬撑到底。不要重演大炼钢运动，死撑硬来，撑到最后只会伤的更重。

@@gyin9098 国内所谓共存类知识类KOL从没有过自己的观点好吗？他们的一切观点都是以西方为灯塔的，从没有哪个共存派曾经是清零派，你所谓口风转变是不存在的，因为共存派和清零派从来都是两拨人。另外，现在损失最小的就是清零政策，中国死的人全球最少，全球经济增速最高都是清零的红利。伤的更重你是在搞笑？你是不是活在梦里？你的梦里不死人经济增速快是受伤？另外上海的疫情就是上海一批亲西领导和亲西专家惹得祸，上海从来都是对清零阳奉阴违，所以这个结果是必然的，而不代表清零政策失败了。
