In this one, we head out and braved the wind with ‪@MontanaRockMom‬ to do some winter rockhounding on the Yellowstone River! I had no expectations for the day, which is usually a fantastic way to start a hunt because those seem to be the days we find some amazing gems! The agates were a bit scarce but man oh man did the jaspers make up for it! We found so many; reds, yellows, browns, greens, a plume, some even containing fossils and druzy, and one absolutely bizarre jasper with amazing orbicular pattern and chalcedony veins which just so happened to also be our largest find of the day! On top of the amazing jaspers, we also got to experience something I have never encountered in my decade of hunting the Yellowstone: we found a gorgeous chunk of Yellowstone River petrified wood IN THE MATRIX! It was one awesome day and we were definitely rewarded for enduring the cold!

I'm a rockhound from way before your time and before I even knew what one was. I found petrified wood and stabbed it and found the starting of a limb. It was very neat looking. I cut rock for the company I work for and really enjoy you cutting segments. I don't have access to my rock ground but I do know we found so many rock like the ones you guys found but didn't know what it was. I drove from Oklahoma to California and back and collected 1500 pounds of rock. But due to moving I had to leave all of them behind I was sick about it. Now I'm am 60 years old and love remembering those rocks and your show brings back really great times keep it up

That was fun! You and Rock Mom. How did your feet not immediately cramp up in that freezing water. As a gentleman did you carry Rock Mom across? Hmmm. My favorite was ALL the jaspers. Jaspers are my friends 😜. I always love the labeling of the rocks at the end. Keep having fun and that includes you too Rock Mom. We haven't seen your better half in a while and hope she is well. Be happy, safe and stay healthy. 😷⚒ Now go have some hot chocolste. Cheers 🥂

That was a great hunt with two of best hounders. The Jaspers have always been one of my most favorite rocks. They are so beautiful. I was rock hounding this week and found some very cool brown and green with a redish yellowy racing stripe, I couldn't take my eyes of it. Not many really good brown jaspers all alone but a have a couple in my collection. Thanks for taking us along. Cheers

Well Theo you did it again well done 👏 I liked all of them but the 2 I like was the green Agate and the Petrified wood that was in 3 pieces I would like to see ya polish the ends of the Petrified wood then slice on each side and polish those that way you will upwards 4 pieces and all the flat sides will be polished anyway I wish and your family the best. Thanks Ray in Idaho

That was exactly the plan!😁 i think ill leave the one side with the agate pocket raw just because i dont want to grind through it but we are definitely going to face and polish the end grain on that one! Ive never seen yellowstone river petrified wood at the source before!😱

I found some really amazing jaspers of yellow, red, 2 shades of green, and white. The one with 2 shades of green was divine olive and a large circle of dark green with small spots of red with a white section on the top. But after I got home and put it in a bucket of water was when I saw the circle in the middle and the white looked like the bottom of the picture.

0:01 and 6:11 When I was a child I found in a torrent in Romania, many stones that looked identical to them. Breaking them, I discovered that they contained flat and conical snails. Another similar stone, orange in color, had on all the surface, white stars with about 12 rays, with a diameter of 5-6 mm that appeared in the perpendicular section of some tubes close next to each other. 5:06

Hi Theo, what an awesome hunt on your Yellowstone River, that was sick, (yer it made me sick, with envy). You are indeed hunting on a river that produces some amazing pieces of chalcedony/agate, jaspers of so many varying colours and awesome petrified wood to name the more common finds I have viewed, though not only in quantity but quality as well. You actually found more in one outing than I have found in various trips in the last 12 months, that is quite amazing. I can’t help but think all of those different rocks must be coming from somewhere where the different types of rocks are the source of those pieces. There must be multiple source locations for those pieces, imagine locating one of those. From what I’ve seen looking on maps you could spend a lifetime tracking them down or just enjoy the ones you are finding in the river beds. (Got a bit off track) The one I was most interested in was that vibrant red Jasper you found early in the video, it looked so bright on camera. Unbelievable pieces, what a day rock hounding. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

I noticed several purple rocks when you were picking up other treasures Can you tell me what they are? Time stamps: 2:45 7:00 7:55 I hope Kyle gets to come and rock hound with you soon. I found you through Kyle and I enjoy watching you both together.

Im hoping we can get kyle up here this summer!😁 its always soooo much fun to go hunting with him! Hoping we can meet uo this spring as well😉 as for those purple rocks! Those are iron stained basalt rocks! There is a LOT of it along the yellowstone and most of it is just empty basalt but sometimes you can find amygdaloidal basalt which is just loaded with tiny agate nodules and they are SO cool!😄 we will be cutting a bunch of those in a video very soon!😁
