Bill is the only person since the late Robin Williams that I've seen that can seize the mic and never give it back. Plus, you also feel like you've spoken to a motivational speaker afterward. Just a treasure of a guy.

I love Bill Walton the way Bill Walton loves the Grateful Dead. I lived in Portland during his years with the Blazers, an amazingly happy coincidence. He and I arrived and departed that city at the same time. The year the Blazers won the championship by destroying the superstar laden 76ers, and the following year when the team was even better -- until the last 1-2 months of the regular season when they lost Bill, Maurice Lucas and basically every one of their "star" players (NOBODY but Lucas on the team was a star without Bill elevating them beyond their best dreams), and a team that started 50-10 had no chance in the playoffs ------ I have never seen an athlete in any professional sport during any of my 70 years, do for the Blazers what Bill did during those 2 seasons. Whatever they needed on any given night, Walton supplied. Had he been able to play 10 healthy years in the NBA, he would have exceeded Jordan or run with him neck and neck for the best of all time. Clearly in my mind he is the most underrated NBA player ever. He was still a quiet man in those days of the mid to later 70s - pre-Marty Glickman and getting him over his speech impediment. But he was everywhere helping the community and individuals the way he elevated the Blazers on the court. I was fortunate to live just a couple of blocks from where he did, and he was everywhere on his bicycle in the course of living a humble life despite greatness and earnings. I lived in a fascinating and spooky old rickety apartment house that has been a featured location in a few films. One morning when I awoke, I heard some happy sounding commotion outside my ground floor window that faced our gravel parking lot. I opened the blinds to see a large group of young children partying it up, with Bill in the center of their circle teaching each and every one of them how to juggle....an absolutely spontaneous event not on anyone's calendar in a quiet residential area at 7:30 AM. That moment I believe really defined Bill's character and enthusiasm for life, and every time I see him in the media my high blood pressure comes under control. A uniquely great man and I hope you'll do some long segments with him and even get some questions in. Thanks for this!

Truly one of the unique personalities not just for the NBA, but all of sports. 1 of 1. He has the respect from players of his time; and after. One of the greatest what ifs for the NBA. Wish more people had his mentality, the positivity is truly remarkable. RIP bill, I will watch this interview for years to come for a laugh, and reflection.

Bill Walton is very lucky. Lucky to be healthy enough to contribute to two championship teams ( Portland, Boston ). Lucky to get his speaking opened up in time to enter NBA broadcasting with a team in his home town of San Diego ( now the Clippers ), and extra lucky to have Ralph Lawler with him from there. Thanks for just letting Bill talk, Dan and team.

@@4736dmr They played in different eras and systems. I believe Bill passed as well in the half court as Joker does. But in the 70's some teams were still striving to play fast break basketball - opposing team shoots, perimeter players instantly release towards their basket, and Bill is there to clean the boards of a miss and with lightning release while still in the air to grab the rebound, snaps the ball full court and it would land right in the mitts of Hollins, Johnny Davis or whoever was breaking away for uncontested dunks and layups. It was ballet basketball. Wes Unseld of the old Washington Bullets was in Bill's league for turning the outlet pass into a work of art, and they won the ring I think 2 years after Bill left to be perpetually injured in San Diego (pre-Celtics), and Unseld was also an MVP.

Walton needs to be on more often. His 30 for 30 is solid so far. Wish people remembered how skilled he was as a big-man, including his court vision. I should have appreciated his on-air shtick more when he was “arguing” with Snapper during NBA on NBC games.
