Unfortunately I think Toyota pushed it too far with the pricing on this generation. At this rate why not pay a little more and get a full size truck that’s way more capable? Trucks were supposed to be practical and reasonably priced but they’re basically all expensive now. The maverick is the only one that fits that description anymore and even those have gotten way more expensive!

Nice truck. One of the curses of buying Toyota's here is Texas is the unwanted options that the distributor, Gulf States Toyota, adds to each vehicle. The options on your truck were minimal, but I have seen Gulf States add $2000 worth of options that the potential customer never ordered and may not want. Leads to a contentious conversation with the salesman.

Had those steps on my last taco. Ground them off (at the support welds), leaving the tubes as like rocker guards, carefully/cleanly, ground the remaining weld areas. Sprayed the grind/feather marks with matching paint. Much better without.

Yeah that is a nice truck. I had a 2012 Base Regular Cab Tacoma 4x4 for 10 years. I traded it in for a RAV4 Limited Hybrid. I really enjoyed my Base Tacoma. It had a 4 cylinder 5 speed manual. I had to ADD my Cruise Control to it. However I paid $18,600.00 dollars for mine out the door with 23 miles on it. It was a great deal. A Tacoma today happens to be quite pricy now.

"1 of the 1st if not the 1st" (In their minds.) "Blue Balls" side steps would be something I would rip off ASAP. But be honest, you won't be keeping this truck for an extended time line. And you won't be thrashing it out hard out on trails. So, the steps won't affect your review/testing. I like the interior TRD badging and misc. looks. The push button start location. Back seat leg room looks very poor. W/out the d/c sway bar, I am a little disappointed. But then, it won't be thrashed on anyhow, so not a hardcore requirement for TFL.

I was really considering getting the new Tacoma but decided to get a Ridgeline instead. To get the same options as my 2023 RTL-E I would have had to spend about $7,000-10,000 more on a Tacoma and then an extra $5,000-8,000 on interest because the Ridgeline has a low rate promo for the 2023 models. I also like the trunk in the bed of the RL, the full time AWD, the ride quality and the proven vtec 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6. The RL is also more capable off road that most people think - especially with a few minor mods. If I was going to do hardcore off road stuff very often then I might have went with the Tacoma. Can’t really go wrong with either one! The new Tacoma looks great!

Interesting truck, I’ve always been a Ford guy do to be a Ford auto tech for 30+ years. Primarily heavy line tech but could fix just about anything as long as a manual was available ….retired from wrenching due to body aches and pains but still wrench a little. The wife and I just bought 2 brand new 23 Broncos and love them. Electronics is the only thing that scares me on the newer vehicles …the bronco driveline seems easily accessible to work on if need be some day….my wife’s fear is the Bronco is a little hard getting in/out cause it sit higher than she’s use too….that being said if for some reason she or I can’t do Broncos in the future I’ve been thinking of going with a Tacoma. The size is nice for my wife and she likes the bed area for hauling but it’s not a huge full size truck that’s had to maneuver in parking lots.

@@user-tg8do2kr4v The 3rd gen Tundras had some major issues with the drivetrain (I believe it was the turbos) when they first came out. Toyota trucks are great in terms of reliability, but they aren’t immune to problems. No manufacturer is. And I say this as someone with a 1st gen Tacoma 2.4.

Approximately 100 trucks had turbo problems because a supplier screwed up something. That was in the first year. The Tundra is in its 3rd year now. No engine problem since. However, there are still a bunch of smaller problems (window rattling, whistling noise from some of the mirrors (not all trim mirrors)), etc).

I am a new owner of a 2023 Tacoma TRD OR Access Cab as of 27 Jan 2024. It was a base model and I have dual zone climate. I wish the dealership didn’t pull my screen protector off. I picked mine up with 8 miles. It has driver lumbar. The reason I got a 2023 because of the naturally aspirated V6 and the Access doors.

I love the standard TRD Off Road with little options, I have a '17 TRD OR with all the bells and whistles and the sunroof leaked, don't really need dual climate control, leather seat is worn out, but it does have 167k miles. Glad to know you don't evey option imaginable to get a nice "cheapish" truck (I'd get the 6 speed option though).

How did TFL avoid the usual Gulf States Toyota (independent distributor) and dealer add ons? These are usually fabric protection, paint protection, dent insurance, window etching and GPS theft locator etc. These normally add about $3,000 per vehicle. Dealers may waive their own add ons, but in my experience have always refused to do anything about the distributor add ons. I’ve always viewed these things as a rip off and would encourage TFL to expose this for what it is.

I'll be interested in seeing how the truck holds up in the long-term. I've had 3 vehicles with turbo chargers - give me a bigger, naturally aspirated engine anytime over a smaller - turbo charged engine.

My last 4 trucks have been Toyotas (1 - earlier mid size Tundra, 3 - Tacomas). I plan to keep my 2020 Tacoma for as long as possible because it is a 6 cylinder. I don’t want a 4 cylinder as turbo engines don’t last as long. Also, the price increases have been crazy.

That place is huge. I read it’s on 25 acres. That’s a lot of property to stuff full of Toyotas. Good luck with the new Tacoma.
