I spent 6 months working out a deal to buy a Condo in BGC....not cheap..and after all that I literally pulled out the last day. Best thing I ever did was back out. I finally realized I would hate to live in BGC. I finally realized if I wanted to live in a Western style tiny little town away from the real Philippines than I should have just saved my money and stayed in the US. Best thing I did was back out and get away from BGC and into the real Philippines culture, which should be the reason you come to the Philippines anyway.

I completely agree. The main reason I'm looking at BGC/Makati for a "home base" is for work. I still work remotely and need good access to internet and power. Some of the provinces are having frequent brownouts and I can't have that. It would be different if I was retired. I still plan to immerse myself into the real Philippines. Our budget was 150k and we ended up with 140k but we feel like we agreed to too much for the true condition of the apartment.

Thanks and believe $2500 per month is a good deal for your location and SF. But do not plan on landlord doing anything in the future other than major repairs like HVAC malfunction. Prices for rentals and new construction have increased much higher than inflation over the past 3 years in Manila, so in 18 months this rent may be a bargain. My wife and I have been coming for 20 years and plan on retiring someday in Manila or Cebu. However, it no longer really cheap like before. Best of luck and we will enjoy your travels.

On serious thoughts, I can resonate on what Phil has mentioned. Spot on to the limitation of leasing a house because you are bound to restrictions and you cannot further add on stuff to beautify it for your own liking. For me, like I am currently leasing too (but not in Manila or anywhere in the Philippines), but we cannot make drills or holes on the walls so that we could hang some stuff like paintings or things that can give more aesthetic look on the walls. You can buy a wifi booster in any computer shop. You can extend the range of the wifi to the areas in the house with weak wifi. Look for the brand TP-Link. At least that is what we have and it has been working for years already.

Yes, S&R is a bit high end so prices there are pretty expensive. You can try doing groceries in SM or Market Market. But jf you like to buy in bulk, S&R is the way to go 😊

hmm.. maybe you could hire someone who will replace/repaint the wallpapers while you guys are on colorado. Ph uses 220volts and USA uses 110v. that maybe good for small appliances like a tv. but for example a 2000watt heater would only needs 10amps in ph and 20amps for US.... what im getting at is when you get electricuted.. its the AMPS that kills, not the volts.

To be honest im learning a lot from you guys and the Ocampo's, been a long time and up to now i cant decide whether buying or perhaps renting a place later in Manila or BGC. This journey of yours does help a lot😊 and Colt 😂😂😂 you're a very smart kid i wish oneday you'll get a career in the Philippines . Learn basic Filipino and your in. Entertainment industry back is huge and a good business just to let you know and theyre open for all who wants to join in the industry can be local or foreigner doesn't matter and i see Colt got the potential to be one. Wow stay safe and good luck. BGC is for foreigner to stay comfortable if you miss so much of western style. .. that’s the place. But if your out at bgc in local area that’s the real daily life of Pilipino. And out the big city you will see a lot cheaper and communicate with the locals and you will see the big difference. Good luck and stay safe and have fun. My family is far from manila is another island of negros and one hour flights.
