Theory #1: Yuma is related to number one. Shinigami must be a family heirloom or curse passed down to family members. The masked man has to be a homunculus and based off of Yuma, with gray hair, an interest in detectives, etc. which is why he wears a mask, to conceal his identical features. I also sense a backstab, he must want to take Yuma's identity (unless he's good lol). I also have another wild theory; Number one is the number one villain and cause of all destruction in the Kanai ward.

if you are so worried abt reaching chapter 4 too quickly how about you take up side quests and find the memory shards? side quests are actually entertaining and lets you kinda know what happened to everyone involved in the previous chapter's murder like the teacher desuhiko disguised as or the church nun and servant..and Gumshoe gaps are pretty much like free time events you will get to know more about the detectives!

The plot’s interesting as well, it being more free roam adds to the experience. And mikes commentary on everything is always funny and makes it entertaining to watch. My theory is that Makoto secretly wants to find all the detectives in one place and kill them all in one fell swoop. The developers must have chosen the name Makoto to give us a false sense of security only for Yuma to get betrayed. I mean, it just makes sense.

My theory about Makoto is that Number one is the main villain and the one behind Amaterasu and the peacekeepers. He had two sons who were twins, Yuma and Makoto, and after he started research on Homunculi he decided to have one of his sons be his test subject, Makoto while he rases the other normally in the WDO, Yuma. Shortly before Yuma's first mission, he went looking through the WDO vaults, as he would have access to through his dad, and found Shinigami who he made a pact with as he was nervous about his first proper mission.
