I really think that you should have a vet check her out. Even if you have one do a home visit. I have had a lot of dogs giving birth. They never seemed as uncomfortable as Kora seems to be. Being Kora 1st time mom, put her in her birth area so no one bothers her while she is preparing and giving birth. You don't want her to birth in rain or ice and then move to birthing area. That way she will feel and be safe, not bothered and puppies will be safe and don't have to be moved. She doesn't need Lesky jumping all over her. Yes shut door so no one bothers her and especially due to unpredictable weather.

I agree, my sister in law raised Chows for years and when it comes to raising dogs I know a little something. Now the rest of those animals, not a clue lol. But yes you have to move the mother into an area and keep her there when it gets closer to time. I'd prob keep her in the shop/ garage with heat. At least until after they are born and a few weeks old. Just saying.. better on mother to be able to care for them and not stress.

Please put her in the whelping area and close the gate but let her out to potty and put her back in there so the puppies are born in the whelping area .. I would get the goats out of there and put her in it to get used to the area.. when they stop eating they usually whelp in 24 hours ..

Kora will start eating again after the babies come. Mama's usually start eating like a racehorse after the puppies are born because they need the extra food to help make milk. You may need to feed her in the mornings, too. And put a bowl of water in the whelping box when they come so she doesn't have to leave the pups to get water.

...at least 3x a day...with lots of wet food, eggs, high-protein kibble...that's how she'll keep the milkbar flowing, which is what the pups need to thrive.

She may have already had them by the time you see this but the box would probably be more inviting to her without the lid. The lamp will still be valuable as the pups will find the heat. I put a board tall enough for pups to not get out across opening at floor but low enough momma can easily get in and out by jumping over it. Please make sure every puppy nurses after they are born.

Hi Kevin, great video as usual and as someone who currently breeds miniature Schnauzer it’s great to see skeeter enjoying life on the farm…. 😊 as someone who’s bred dogs for over 40yrs including LGD’s my sincere advice for you is to put her in her whelping area and make sure no other animals have access as maiden bitches can get very stressed with their first litter and can also become very anxious and aggressive towards other animals even if they live with them…. Give kora goats milk also on occasion to help with milk production she’s gonna have big pups that will drink a lot and you want to avoid them taking too much calcium from your kora… but good luck to you and kora…❤

Since you folks haven’t had puppies before, there are a few things you might want to have on hand. If you have an old sheet to lay over the straw, it would be helpful for keeping Cora and the pups from getting stuff stuck all over them, while they’re wet, and keep the afterbirth stuff clean because Cora will want to eat some of the sacks and it’s important that she’s allowed to. Sounds gross but it helps with the bonding, and it is full of nutrients. Then a suction bulb for cleaning pups mouths and nostrils, plenty of old towels for drying, paper towels, canine replacer formula & bottle (just in case there’s a rejection or…) and a thermometer. Also, you may want to call your vet ahead of time and see if there’s a vet on call that makes farm calls, in the event of an emergency. As for signs of impending labor, things I noticed first were discharge, tightening belly from contractions, sometimes whimpering and shivering. Their temp drops during labor. Hope that helps. If you’re prepared, it will help you stay calm for her. Good luck!

Hi Kevin! You may want to consider smaller meals more frequently. Space in her tummy is at a premium, and it is likely she is eating all her stomach can hold at the one feeding time. I would also suggest to give her at least once a day a rice and chicken concoction. That way she is getting what she needs for those babies using a smaller quantity and condensed quality for the babies.. Your dry food may be great quality, but she can't handle a meal so big at once. My girls REALLY enjoyed those special rice/chicken smaller meals and babies were always born super healthy too.

As far as your water hoses and remembering to turn them off, get some rubber hair ponytail holders, put them on the handle of the faucet, when you turn it on put the hair tie on your wrist and that will remind you the water is on. Good luck.
