Guys the water containers are out in the sun , put the containers in the cages with the chickens in the shade not sun
@carolinedevlin15774 ай бұрын
Brandon you need to open the tarps at the back and sides of the chicken pens for the summer so the air can flow all through the cages plus get the water inside those cages as the sun is making the water way to hot over the day and they need more access to it as well . I know it makes it harder to clean the water bottles but it won’t be so hot even though you pout the ice. Can you get greens for them that will help for their diet and give another source of moisture 😊

I hope you don’t mind Eddy family if you put the water inside in the shade and big bow of water so they can stand in it that’s what I did ❤❤

Heat will kill chickens and you need to put the water inside because it will get over 100 degrees and that’s the only way they can cool off. We have a lot of commercial chicken houses and they require fans to keep it cool enough for them to stay alive. Most importantly is moving the water out of the sun!!!! Hope you figure it out Brandon but I’m telling you that’s what is wrong here. 👍🙏 You can buy the fans for chicken houses

@@elizabethcave7666I wish I could talk to Brandon about how to build a commercial like chicken house that would solve most all of his problems. He would have all his birds under one roof with subdivided pens inside. We have a lot of commercial chicken houses here and it wouldn’t cost as much as a commercial built one either. It’s like a pole barn but longer. Maybe he will read this. I would be glad to help 👍🙏

Totally agree! I have a solar powered fan for my chicken coop. We also have and a water 🚿 spritzer thing outside the coop because our hens free range during the day. We also put a kiddie pool in the chicken area with water. Some of the hens like to walk in it for a bit. Of course we also give our hens cool or half frozen fruit. Anything to keep them cool. Obviously they have water inside their coop at all times and water outside for when they are free ranging. 🐓🐓

Put the waterers in the shade inside their pens. Put shallow bowls, shallow troughs or baking pans, of water in the shade, in their pens for them to walk around in to cool their feet down. That will help too. Chickens like to walk around in cool water just like people do to cool down. Heat stroke is very dangerous for animals too. ❤

Jason is out early doing what a "farmer" is supposed to do. Jason cares and knows what hes doing - taking care of each animal. You cannot start taking care of a farm/animals after sleeping all day, walking/talking/videoing/shopping/AND NEVER PLANNING AHEAD. Farming is lots of work that cannot be neglected. If you dont know what you are doing investigate/learn before taking on the project - THEN FINISH IT WHAT YOU START. Chickens need a roost to get them up off the ground, its their nature !

@@sandyeaster5258so agree! I am bit disappointed that someone with hundreds of chickens don’t know that they need cool water and water in their coop. I really hope I’m wrong and there is water in the coop and in the shade and we just can’t see it. I don’t like saying disrespectful things, but this really upsets me that animals die because of lack of cool water. Having the water containers on the outside keeps them HOT! They need to be inside the coop in the shade!! The ice they put in will just melt in the heat. I’ve had chickens for 30 years and been through heat waves of 107 and never have lost one chicken due to heat. It was 107 yesterday and 103 today at my house. We have fans for our chickens that are solar powered and in the coops, ice in the water containers and misters. I really hope they are doing the same and we just don’t see it on this small clip of their day. Was thinking maybe u could use shade cloth in the summer for the chickens. It’s rather pricey but it lets the breeze through. They will get more air circulating and it would be cooler. The waterers may need to move into the coops for the summer also as it’s much hotter in the sun than the shade. Sounds like a water pan for them to walk in might be of help to them also. I think shade tarps in the summer instead of solid tarps will help a lot. At least on the sides. Love ur family. Y’all r the best parents. It’s awesome to see. Sorry for the bird loss. I think maybe those traps need to become more of a regular daily choir than an afterthought. Maybe Layton would like to add it to his daily chores for a little extra allowance. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how much you love your animals. Chickens, like pigs have trouble cooling themselves down. They can cool down by putting their feet in some water. They also can benefit from eating some chilled fruit. They love blueberries and watermelon. If you put out some frozen fruit during the day, they can eat it slowly and help keep themselves cool. Misters and shade cloths help as well. Jason from Cog Hill Farm puts up a shad cloth and misters for his chickens every summer. I hope you will get some cooler temperatures. It must be hard to live in such hot weather. By the way, I absolutely love the updates on the new house. I get so excited every time you show us what the builders are up to.

Things like that may happen occasionally, sadly, that are beyond your control. It might be the heat that got to the rooster, but if the watermelon that you fed the other chicken was cold. Maybe the chicken was hot and the cold watermelon was too cold for it. I would quit putting ice in their water and just run cool water into their containers a couple times a day. Animals might not be able handle the ice water like we do. I'm not an expert, this is just a suggestion. You might move their water containers beside the pen, out of the direct sun.
