LOL, I take it you haven't seen the full episode? They both knew because someone accidentally told them just that morning. They were both shocked and surprised initially but almost immediately moved on to being concerned about making sure he knows he can tell them. They pretended they didn't know so he could tell them himself.

Stellar reaction from the parents. But, to everyone, don't be crestfallen if this wasn't or isn't your coming out experience, either as a receiving the news parent or the person coming out. We are humans and thereby fallible and, in these moments, beholden to our emotions. To be fair even these parents found out earlier that day by accident and had a moment of speechlessness initially. By the time they had this conversation they had had a moment to think of what they wanted to say and think about how they wanted their reaction to be.
