Congratulations on 100K!!! Does that technique also make the wood insect resistant?? I’ve seen some videos of people building their house using that technique on the timber framing and siding. Just curious. Also wondering if the osmo locks in the wood so you don’t get a burnt wood smell? Wonderful content! Fantastic bench!!

That finished bench looks great. What do you think about potentially using Rubio Monocoat Charcoal (or Black) instead of the General Finishes Black + Osmo 3043 combo? That would still give you the rich black color, but with the hardwax and oil from the Rubio, and still retain some of the nice feel and characteristics of the wood burn. Can you please share a link to the torch you used for this? Would like to check it out, thanks!

Ive done this burning look on live edge tables before sealing them in epoxy. Especially if im going to be using a staining epoxy like charcoal black or whatever, that way the black epoxy doesnt seep deep into the wood, it stays sort of surface level.

Shou Sugi Ban, another feather in your cap! This bench turned out really good. Did I hear you say that the timber used was Ash? How appropriate! As much as I like the technique and the end result, I was surprised to see you using a black wax finish. I was thinking there would be more of a contrast with a clear wax, this would show more of the subtle differences in the grain. If you were heading for an all black finish why not just use a black stain? But then Spencer would not have had as much fun, dont let him loose with that flame thrower..!! ** Congratulations to you all. I really missed not getting my BFWC fix last week but hey this sort of made up for it. Cheers, stay safe and I hope the hairdresser opens soon heh heh.
