As a longtime wood hobbyist who has been trying to teach myself cad design and CNC work, I wish it took no skill and automatically did everything on its own! In the time that I've spent trying to learn this stuff, there was a huge sense of accomplishment for something as simple and carving out holes in serving trays for ramekins, or signs for house numbers. I think people just say that sort of stuff out of frustration and/or ignorance. Just tune it out. Either way, you guys are all awesome and door is gorgeous!

It would save us a lot more money if the program just wrote itself haha. It's definitely a tough skill to learn but it feels amazing when you actually start to figure things out! Thanks Griff!

A great door that certainly suits the house. As to comments about using a CNC machine being a cheat! No way is that cheating, most people have no idea what is involved in creating programs for this. I'm just glad that I don't have to think about it anymore. I thought your trick of using silicone between the door panels is brilliant. Yes this is definitely a Canadian door on a Canadian house, you certainly seem to have a unique style. I applaud your expertise and attention to detail and as always the end product is superb. Thank you for sharing, cheers Michael.

Had to do casing for a door that had an arch top like that once did the glue up the same way. I used to be one of those get pissed about covering all my hard work in paint, but I've gotten to the point of I only have to live with the project whiles it's in my shop, they have to live with it for as long as they want to keep it. So I'm here for ideas and make sure they love it and give them what they want!

More important is the workmanship of the build rather than its final look. The aesthetic is only skin-deep (pun intended). But the door does look solidly built. That said, the black stain looks at home with much of the house you've shown. Looks great. Another great build. Excellent work.

Hi 👋, Black Forest, Great looking 👀 Door, I must say that it is not every jointer shop that can afford a CNC machine to make dowel joints, et cetera, finger joints, and a tenoning machine is cheaper than a CNC machine, and takes up less space, i’ve been doing my finger joint in the past 40 odd years when I first got my spindle moulder, Back in the late 90s, early 2000s, I’ve been given a contract to make a very large pipe organs and to make the timber work more stable. I’ve even end grained joint together, then read machine the board and then done the finger joint along the side, staggering all the joints., when I have made laminated curve components in the process of glue up I would put fibreboard about half inch thick onto the surface that is finished then I’ll put another board that the clamps we go against so you’re finished product surface that has finished he’s not bruised or damaged by the clamps. I used to do my tenoning joints on the sliding table on my spindle, moulder, Back in the 2000s purchased Watkin, EKA tenoning machine which was very old but had not had a-lot of use, I stripped it completely and sent the motors away to be rebuilt, i.e. bearings et cetera and all the surface areas I had them remachined had it all powder coated, it was like a brand-new machine, very accurate. One of the biggest costs is the tooling for it, I think that I have spent in the region of £15,000 just on blocks and cutters, a lot of my work was one off. Or copying existing joinery., especially when it comes to grade one listed buildings. In the Uk, I was very lucky that I have had some very good jobs over the last 20 years, though saying that my ex female partner has tried to make a claim on my tools and equipment over the last three or four years, and has scanned me as I have put a lot of time and effort into restoring and rebuilding two properties one in the UK and one in France, I’m glad to say that it has backfired on her, as the property in England had to be sold, and I’m now in the process of making for claim on the property in France, where I am now live in retired, at 71 years young I think I’m going to start work again, not obviously big jobs but something just to keep me occupied, , as I’ve still got most of my tools and machinery, and hand tools, and luckily I’ve still got my brain intact, and still reasonably fit. Sorry for my self indulgence. As I have lived by myself for the last four years., Black Forest, keep up your great work, many years ago I was once told if a job is worth doing it is worth doing well, you are all lucky to find some very good workers , to work to a very high standard of quality and finish, Stay Safe. Phil from the moulin France.

First, beautiful work as always. A colleague used to say “you want it green, we’ll paint it green”. Black fits and is what the client requested. I don't think I would order a black finish on a wood product, but it is very well crafted and the use of a stain instead of paint left the wood grain visible, so I don't feel it was ruined. It's also what the customer wanted and therefor they are the only ones that need to be happy with it.

Like a black car the Door will need to be dusted often. Also the camera has trouble focusing on the black so its a big no for me. The door might as well be synthetic because the black would hide all its natural beauty. It could be worse. A customer could be installing a black doorway into a tiny home and make the home look like a dungeon.

Another beautiful doorway and door, whether the black finish is right or wrong is up to the owner, they know what they wanted ... to me why use such a beautiful wood if you're going to effectively paint it, but that's me👍 As for using CNC and not being real joinery, well does that mean that using a jointer, planer, drill, router etc mean that it's not real joinery ... they are all tools at the end of the day, with CNC it's a different skill set, but still ultimately joinery!!

Let me say even though the door was painted black, you guys did and exceptional job (AS ALWAYS) However, I think the client has made a Faux Pas on the selection of color on the door -- as well as the color of the rock siding of the house.
